Dijon (UK: /ˈdiːʒɒ̃/, US: /diːˈʒoʊn/,[2][3] French: [diʒɔ̃] (audio speaker iconlisten))[a] is the prefecture of the Côte-d'Or department and of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in Northeastern France.[4] As of 2017 the commune had a population of 156,920.

The earliest archaeological finds within the city limits of Dijon date to the Neolithic
period. Dijon later became a Roman settlement named Divio, located on the road between Lyon and Paris. The province was home to the Dukes of Burgundy from the early 11th until the late 15th centuries, and Dijon became a place of tremendous wealth and power, one of the great European centres of art, learning, and science.[5]

The city has retained varied architectural styles from many of the main periods of the past millennium, including Capetian, Gothic, and Renaissance. Many still-inhabited town-houses in the city's central district date from the 18th century and earlier. Dijon architecture is distinguished by, among other things, toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs) made of tiles glazed in terracotta: green, yellow, and black and arranged in geometric patterns.

Dijon holds an International and Gastronomic Fair every year in the northern-hemisphere autumn. With over 500 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors every year, it is one of the ten most important fairs in France.[citation needed] Dijon also hosts every three years the international flower show Florissimo. Dijon has become famous for Dijon mustard, which originated in 1856, when Jean Naigeon of Dijon substituted verjuice, the acidic green juice of not-quite-ripe grapes, for vinegar in the traditional mustard recipe. Dijon is a green city with an important tertiary sector, as well as a regional economic center with a diversified fabric, a traditional food-processing center (Dijon crême de cassis and kir, gingerbread, Lanvin chocolate...) and a renowned pharmaceutical sector.

On 4 July 2015 UNESCO registered the historical centre of the city as a World Heritage site as one of the components of the Climats, terroirs of Burgundy site, because of its historical importance in regulating the system of wine production in Burgundy.[6]

Dijon (4K)

(La Tour Philippe-le-Bon)

Exploring Dijon and Beaune, France | The Route Des Grands Crus | Travel Vlog

The city of Dijon! I won't be mentioning anything about mustard. Instead, I came for the wine. Situated in Burgundy (Bourgogne), Dijon and the nearby town of Beaune are famous as prestigious wine regions. The wines include pinot noirs, Chardonnay, Chablis, and Beaujolais. The cities themselves possess some beautiful chateaux, luxury hotels, gardens, and other sites not to be missed. The vineyards are located in a zone called the Côte d'Or. This limestone formation is the fault line formed by the Saone Valley dropping away from the escarpment. From north to south you have Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise, and Mâconnais. The principal villages of the Côte de Nuits are Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-St-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Vosne-Romanée, Flagey-Échézeaux, and Nuits-St-Georges. This was a fantastic weekend for a wine tour and a great break from school. I learned a lot by visiting communal appellations separated into four quality categories: Bourgogne, village, premier cru, and grand cru. I was lucky to taste test them all! Hope you enjoyed my Burgundy experience! Don't forget to hit the like and subscribe button. Cheers!

Nice France 2022 Walking Tour | 4K UHD 60FPS | City Center,Place Masséna,Old Town,Beach Side

Nice is the fifth largest city in France and the capital of the Alpes Maritimes. With a population of over 460,000 and the second busiest airport in France, the city that was once dominated by summer tourism, is now a fully functioning metropolis all year round.

It is now possible to reach Nice by train from London on the new TGV Méditerranée changing in Paris or Lille. In an attractive setting just twenty five miles from the Italian border, Nice has only been part of France since 1860. The city combines both the best of Italian and French architecture. The English also played a large role in the development of Nice.

Even in the winter the cafe terraces are filled with people happily drinking and contemplating the ultra famous Promenade des Anglais. Always in flower this wonderful walk follows along the bay, looking out onto the Baie des Anges and the beaches on one side, and on the other such luxury hotels as the Negresco.
The architecture of Nice can be astonishing with the wild exaggerations of the Belle Epoque style or the Baroque influenced houses and mansions on the hills of Mont Boron.

Fabulous creations have been realized in the floral gardens and parks of the hills of the Chateau, the Chambrun park or the Espace Massena.
The only way to get to know the real Nice is by strolling through the ochre colored streets listening to the Nicois speaking their own language (Nissart) and by tasting their savory cooking, One musn't miss the onion, anchovy and olive tarts called Pissaladieres, the vegetable and tuna sandwiches known as Pan Bagnat, the Salade Nicoise or the famous Ratatouille (tomatoes eggplant and zucchini squash stew). The main cooking ingredient is olive oil ot course, and many of the dishes are garnished with the succulent little black Nice olives called Caillette.
Nice is also a city of art and culture and after Paris, has the most museums in France. The city is animated at night as well as in the day especially in the summer with the Nice Jazz Festival held in the arena, the gardens of Cimiez, and the flower war on the Promenade des Anglais in which participate the prettiest women on the Cote d'Azur (French Riviera).
