Fitzroy Island day trip is just the best thing to do in Cairns for a family, couple, friends or even if you are travelling solo. Fiztroy island Cairns is a little tropical island which is 97% national park and situated on the Great Barrier Reef.
If you want to stay on this tropical paradose, Fitzroy Island resort is the only accommodation on Fitzroy Island for staying overnight but I went for a day trip to Fitzroy Island which is preferred by a lot of travellers.
In today's Fitzroy island vlog I will show you around the island and also tell you how I experienced the Great Barrier Reef on a budget!
Fitzroy Island ferry costs $85 return ticket but I booked the tickets on a deal from Bookme which cost me $66 for a return ferry and this is where you can get Fitzroy Island transfers deals:
Fitzroy Island weather is tropical, you'll have a lot of sun and a lot of humidity so pack accordingly. There is a lot of stuff to do on Fitzroy Island for all age groups:

3. Fitzroy Island Lighthouse Walk
4. Fitzroy Island Summit Walk
5. Kayaking and SUP along the island
I found this island to be great spot for Great Barrier Reef snorkelling. Great barrier reef tours are normally very expensive. They depart from Cairns and take you to outer reef where you can snorkel and scuba dive at Great Barrier Reef. Great Barrier Reef diving is probably the most popular activity in Cairns but if you want to do it on a budget, Fitzroy Island is a great option.

Situated just 40 minutes from Cairns by launch, Fitzroy Island is home to a popular resort, gorgeous coral beaches, and crystal clear waters teeming with marine life. In this video we showcase some of the many things to do on Fitzroy Island on a day visit.
There are a range of facilities available for the use of day visitors, including a bar/bistro and general store. Stinger suits, snorkelling gear, and diving apparatus can all be hired from the beach hut close to the main jetty. The hut also runs glass bottom boat trips for those who prefer to stay dry.
Fitzroy Island is home to a recovery facility operated by the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre — a 100% volunteer-based organisation that rescues, treats, and rehabilitates injured or sick marine turtles. This video features an interview with resident marine biologist Rowena Johnson about the centre and its vital work.
