Eureka is the principal city and county seat of Humboldt County in the Redwood Empire region of California. The city is located on U.S. Route 101 on the shores of Humboldt Bay, 270 miles north of San Francisco and 100 miles south of the Oregon border. At the 2010 census, the population of the city was 27,191, and the population of Greater Eureka was 45,034.
Eureka is the largest coastal city between San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, and the westernmost city of more than 25,000 residents in the 48 contiguous states. The headquarters of both the Six Rivers National Forest and the North Coast Redwoods District of the California State Parks System are in Eureka. Discover Ferndale, WA
Ferndale is approximately 100 miles from Seattle. Great for a day trip or for the weekend. The views of Mount Baker are spectacular.
We explored Hovander Homestead Park which sits on 60 acres. This river side park features walking trails, a historic house, a wood barn (the largest wood barn in the county), farm animals, a huge picnic shelter, a playground and antique harvest equipment. Tennant Lake Interpretive Center has a fragrance garden and a 50 foot tower that overlooks Tennant Lake. There is also a boardwalk that takes you to Tennant Lake.
You can bring dogs and parking is FREE!

Ferndale is a picture-perfect little town that exudes the feeling of Mayberry or Leave It To Beaver. Unique shops line the main street and not a single chain is anywhere in sight. Eureka is not nearly as small as Ferndale but is equally as unique.
