We moved from Guam to Norfolk, VA earlier this year and have been exploring the area as much as possible. Living on Guam, one thing I never had the opportunity to experience was a true road trip to another state! As my sister and her boyfriend were visiting North Carolina for a few weeks, there was no way I was passing up the chance to meet up with them.
For the first weekend, we drove from Norfolk, VA to Ferguson, NC for a cabin stay. This drive in total was about 5 hours, which wasn't so bad until we got to the actual trailhead leading up to the cabin. My car was definitely not cut out for this incline (or maybe I just wasn't cut out for it, haha) so I had to have my husband take over driving uphill. The spot we stayed at was absolutely gorgeous! Located on Elk Creek Darby Road, it was definitely a good ways away from any store or restaurant, so it was wise to pick anything we needed for a few days and just stay at the cabin the rest of the time. Everything from the full kitchen to the balcony view, to the nearby hiking trails, to the game-filled man cave, this find was the best setting for my first cabin stay experience. On top of that, it allowed pets so our pup Max obviously enjoyed it too!
Our second weekend was mainly spent in Raleigh, which is (from what I gathered) the city/party scene. Up and down Glenwood Avenue are a plethora of bars, shops, and restaurants for a fantastic night out! Some spots we explored included Tin Roof, Milkbar, Plates, Hibernian Irish Pub, Tobacco Road Brewery, C. Grace, Pearl and Peril, and many others.
Though we only got to spend two weekends in North Carolina, it was definitely a wonderful first experience!
