National poet Mahakavi Bharathiya was born in Ettayapuram, 34 km away from Thoothukudi. Here is the memorial of the Umuru poet. The Pandiyar rulers in Chitraguri, near Chittor, were appointed as the Diaspora residents of the state. Later the town was called Ettayapuram.
Kayatharu
Kayatharu is 23 km from Thirunelveli on the National Highway 17 at Madurai Road. Kattabomman was hanged in this place. This place is preserved asmonumentent
