Welcome to Elkhorn, Wisconsin
From the first log shanty dwelling and a recorded population of only 14 people back in 1837, the City of Elkhorn Wisconsin has grown into a close-knit community of homes and businesses surrounded by rolling farmland. Many of the original homes built in the mid 1800's have been lovingly restored to their original appearance and provide a historic balance to the newer housing available throughout the area. One of the significant historic homes is known as The Webster House former home to composer Joseph Philbrick Webster who wrote more than 1000 songs before his death in 1875.
The City's name was given by Colonel Samuel Phoenix, who declared Elk Horn when he spotted a rack of elk antlers caught in a tree. Located in the exact center of Walworth County, Elkhorn became the county seat and was recently ranked #14 of the 100 Best Small Towns in America proving that the current population of over 9,000 hasn't forgotten its heritage and values.
Elkhorn is also famous for music, with both the Getzen Company and Frank Holton & Company having built factories to produce the finest band instruments that are in use around the world. The music continues today in the city's historic bandshell where the Holton-Elkhorn Band performs concerts on summer evenings.
Since the 1950's Elkhorn has been recognized as The Christmas Card Town after the Ford Motor Company commissioned artist Cecile Johnson to create paintings that were later published as Christmas Cards. The tradition lives on with Wisconsin artist Jan Castle Reed creating new paintings that have become Christmas cards as well.
The Elkhorn Area School District serves students from the city and surrounding townships with educational programs through the High School level. Elkhorn also boasts a campus of Gateway Technical College, offering training in more than 65 career fields.
Elkhorn offers many local parks to enjoy and four public golf courses are also located within minutes of the city. Many other recreational opportunities are nearby including the 12 Mile White River State Trail offering a scenic path between Elkhorn and Burlington for walkers, runner and bicyclists. Just north is Lauderdale Lakes consisting of a chain of 3 full sport lakes offering fishing and pleasure boating and is also home to the talented Lauderdale Aqua Skiers who perform on Saturdays in the summer months.
Elkhorn plays host year 'round to fairs, festivals, flea markets and parades attracting locals and visitors alike. The largest attraction is the Walworth County Fair that draws thousands each summer to sample food, fun and enjoy big name entertainment. With animal judging, tractor pulls, carnival rides and games, the Fair has provided a unique venue for over 160 years.

Elkhorn RV Park Review Frankfort KY
In this video, we share our review of Elkhorn RV Park, which is where we stayed during our visit to Central Kentucky. This was a nice campground that was centrally located in Frankfort so that you could do things in Louisville, Lexington, and the Frankfort area very easily from this campground. It was family friendly and we enjoyed our stay there during the 4th of July.
We are a family of 4 who loves to travel. In 2019, we bought a 30 ft. travel trailer and decided to make our dreams happen by getting out on the road. Since then, we have upgraded to a 39' Fifth Wheel Mid-Bunkhouse and a 2018 Ford F-350 Diesel and are loving the upgrade for our family. We have always LOVED traveling and now seeing our world on the road has given us opportunities to see and make more memories as a family. We are teachers and are blessed to have the same vacation schedule, so we make the most of it with our kids by being both weekend warriors and school schedule traveling--We call ourselves part-timers. We hope to share what we learn while exploring this beautiful world around us and inspire you to get out and see it, too.

Hiking Oregon's Elkhorn Mountains, Anthony Lake (August 24, 2021)
We had originally planned to hike in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, but the smoke from western forest fires made the air in the Sawtooths unhealthy so we checked out of our hotel in Hailey Idaho, and headed towards Portland. I had scouted out a day hike in the Elkhorn Mountains in Oregon's Blue Mountains (confusing, to say the least) outside of Baker City. The hike started at a trailhead near Anthony Lake which was accessible via a nice paved road. During our 5 mile hike, we visited 5 lakes and enjoyed blue skies and nice scenery. The trails were well maintained and marked.
