Indiana may be best known for its obsession with sports (and limestone) but what may not be in the public domain is that the Midwestern state has one of the lowest cost of living in the United States.
A dollar stretches a long way here, longer than it would in 41 states.
Anyone looking to relocate to the Hoosier State will also be happy to know home prices in Indiana are among the most affordable in the country.
As well, the state boasts a strong economy that is about the size of Norway, according to the American Enterprise Institute.
It is the 16th largest state economy in the United States and this, coupled with the sixth lowest unemployment rate in the nation, makes for very interesting reading, or living rather.
The state’s economy is mainly flanked by agriculture, manufacturing and automotive industries.
Also of notable importance is healthcare and education, not forgetting the two prestigious universities based here: Purdue and Notre Dame.
A report by the Indiana Business Review notes that in 2010, Indiana’s economy grew twice as fast as the rest of the nation, with similar results experienced in the subsequent three years.
With things going so swimmingly in this state, perhaps it didn’t come as a surprise when Money Magazine named Fishers, Indiana the No.1 best place to live in America in 2017.

Inflation got you down? Maybe you're thinking about finding a cheaper way of life. If so, maybe you're considering Indiana. It's one of the most affordable states in the nation. It has a little bit of everything, too. Major city? Check. Suburbs? Check. Farmland and small towns? Check. The Hoosier State has a low cost of living, compared to many other places, especially when compared to the coastal states. The state also has cities and towns where there's very little crime. Let's Visit Elkhart, IN
Located along the banks of the St. Joseph River and Elkhart River, Elkhart is a nice city with quite a nice downtown with many stores, restaurants, and theaters. Elkhart is easily accessible by the nearby Indiana Toll Road as well as the Amtrak station immediately south of downtown. I check out the downtown area as well as the riverwalk and some parks along the two rivers.

Driving Around Downtown Elkhart, Indiana in 4k Video
Filmed on Tuesday, May 30 2023, I drive around bustling Elkhart, Indiana to see what's going on.
Elkhart is a city in Elkhart County, Indiana. The city is located 15 miles east of South Bend, Indiana.
The name Elkhart is a euphemization of Elks-heart, which refers to the now extinct Eastern elk.
According to an account recorded in 1824, the name arose from two women fighting over an elk's heart that had been hung up to dry.
Alternatively, some historians including Jacob Piatt Dunn have associated the name with the shape of an island in the Elkhart River that is stated to resemble an elk's heart.
When the Northwest Territory was organized in 1787, the area now known as Elkhart was mainly inhabited by the Ottawa, Chippewa, and Potawatomi Indian tribes.
In 1829, the Village of Pulaski was established, consisting of a post office, mill, and a few houses on the north side of the St. Joseph River.
Dr. Havilah Beardsley moved westward from Ohio, and on August 9, 1821, purchased one square mile of land in order to establish a rival town named Elkhart. The town of Elkhart was first plotted with 48 lots on April 30, 1832.
In 1839, the Pulaski Post Office was officially changed to Elkhart.
Elkhart County was founded exclusively by immigrants from New England. These were old-stock Yankee immigrants, that is to say, they were descended from the English Puritans who settled New England in the 1600s.
Many inhabitants of Elkhart County fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. In the late 1880s and early 1890s Irish and German migrants began moving into Elkhart County, most of these later immigrants did not move directly from Ireland and Germany, but rather from other areas in the Midwest where they had already been living, particularly the state of Ohio.
Elkhart became the site of multiple musical instrument factories. In 1934, the first recreational vehicle factory opened in Elkhart. Similar companies followed suit for the remainder of the decade, and the economy continued to grow until the rationing of materials in World War II. After the war, growth picked back up, and, by 1949, Elkhart was officially dubbed the RV Capital of the World.
Elkhart is home to many Recreational vehicle manufacturers, boat manufacturers, and van conversion companies, including Bennington Marine, Forest River Inc Hy-Line, Keystone, Skyline, Sun Valley, Travel Supreme, THOR Motor Coach, and many other manufacturers, including Gulf Stream, and Jayco, can be found nearby in Goshen, Middlebury, Nappanee and Wakarusa.
Gemstone Musical Instruments is located in Elkhart, and they produce Stephanhöuser Saxophones.
The Elkhart Jazz Festival is a three-day event that takes place in late June on the banks of the Elkhart River. It is known as one of the premier Jazz festivals in the nation. In 2007, the festival celebrated its 20th anniversary.
As of the census of 2020, there were 53,923 people residing in the city, up from 50,949 in 2010.
The racial makeup of the city was 66.1% White, 15.4% African American, 0.6% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 12.9% from other races, and 4.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22.5% of the population. #driving #travel #drivingtour

Welcome to Amazing Indiana! Today we travel to Elkhart in Northern Indiana. We will visit the RV Hall of Fame, the Midwest Museum of American Art and the New York Central Railroad Museum. Elkhart has a lot to offer and this video will provide a good overview to three of the city's top attractions.
The RV Hall of Fame explores the history of Recreational Vehicles and Americans love affair with hitting the open road.
The Midwest Museum of American Art has a wonderful collection of art that is unique to Indiana and houses a collection of Norman Rockwell lithographs.
The New York Central Railroad Museum tells the story of one of America's great railroads and houses an incredible model train layout.
Elkhart is a place that makes Indiana truly amazing.
The Road to Elkhart, Indiana
From Wapakoneta Ohio, to Elkhart Indiana. We stopped along the way at one of our favorite antique/picking shops, Jeffrey's Antiques, self claimed as Ohio's largest. We had a good time there finding a few cool things to take home with us, and afterwards we found another large antique mall in Maumee Ohio. We eventually make our way to our destination near Elkart Indiana for our stay and upcoming visit with Dutchmen RV.

RV Hall of Fame - our visit to Elkhart, Indiana
On our way east, we decided to stop at the Grand Design factory to tour the facility and see where our Reflection 297RSTS was made. It turns out that there is a Thousand Trails RV Park in Howe, Indiana - just a few miles from Middlebury where GD is, and all of this is in the general area of Elkhart which is the Center of the Universe for most RV brands.
Another thing in the area is the RV & Motorhome Hall of Fame and Museum so we obviously had to go see that. We were very impressed with the collection of RVs throughout the years, starting in the early years of 1900.
So we spent a couple of pleasant hours exploring the Museum Halls and discovering that while technology has changed through the years, the basics of RVs haven't changed all that much. We hope you enjoy the video of our tour and plan to come see this yourself!
