According to the latest estimates 2021-2022 rainy season is one of the best in Namibia's recorded history although some parts of the country experienced damaged, blocked and closed roads, flooded houses, burst dams and washed away walls. Flash flooding has been reported as well as severe flooding in southern regions of Namibia. NamWater reported that most dams in Namibia are close to 100% full.

Rains on the road from Maltahohe to Helmiringshausen
Recently on a project with a film crew, we were travelling from Maltehohe to Luderitz via Helmeringshausen. There was predicted to be some rain, but the road was still supposed to be passable. Little did we know just how much rain there would be!
As we left Maltehohe we could already see trouble brewing. Rain is pretty uncommon in Namibia, and on the rare occasions that it does rain, people tend to avoid the gravel roads as they have a tendency to wash away.
The footage for this video was contributed by the film production team that were being conveyed between locations.
The heavy rainfall in the desert of Namibia is quite rare, and even though driving into rain storms in the desert can leave you stranded for days or worse, the scenery was amazing! The amount of water that came down was simply out of this world.
For the sharp eyed among you, this is a re-worked video, the previous one sucked, and upon request of the community this was remade with proper sound & music.

Communities and businesses in Windhoek were devastated by massive downpours on 14 December 2022
The City of Windhoek's fire and rescue team arrived at Wernhill shopping center to pump out water from stores and vehicles. The mall's management had signs up announcing the temporary closure of the centre's ground floor, apologising for the inconvenience.
Those who travel to and from Windhoek city centre by taxi were left stranded as some routes were completely flooded, making them impossible to cross. Many commuters were still waiting for taxis at 19h00 on 14 December evening. Two vehicle accident scenes were observed at different corners in the city, while some traffic lights were out of order.
At Windhoek's informal settlements, leaking roofs and soaked beds were the order of the day. Some families slept outside in the rain. At Rocky Crest, some residents returned from work to find their apartments with no roofs. Two apartment roofs in particular were completely blown off. A resident yesterday said the three-bedroom apartments were worth about N$1,3 million.A body corporate member who was present at the complex said they were about to start with repairs.
14 December flash floods were unprecedented, with 88 mm and 100 mm recorded in some areas. Weather forecasts warned that rainy conditions were expected to prevail during the week. Rain was continued over the north-east during the weekend. Disruptive rains were expected over parts of the Kavango West region. During the weekend over the central part of the country there was some likelihood of clouds developing, but the main activities of thunderstorms will be moving over to the north-eastern parts of the country. Windhoek received 90 mm of rain on 14 December 2022.

What You Need To Know About The Independence Museum
The Independence Memorial Museum is a historical museum in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. It focuses on the anti-colonial resistance and the national liberation movement of Namibia. The museum is located on Robert Mugabe Avenue and was designed and built by Mansudae Overseas Projects, a North Korean firm. The museum was inaugurated on March 21, 2014, the twenty-fourth anniversary of independence of the country, by President Hifikepunye Pohamba.[1] It is flanked by two statues: the Sam Nujoma Statue and the Genocide Statue, also built by Mansudae. The Sam Nujoma Statue sits on the site of the German-era Reiterdenkmal equestrian statue.[2][3]
This was an unbelievable experience for me the vivid depiction of the war crimes committed by the apartheid regime of South Africa on the Namibian civilian population is sickening. It will make feel sad then mad then gives you a new understanding of racism in the world and how Africans have been and continue to be systemically held back.

Departed from Ongula Lodge (between Eenhana and Ondwanga) aiming to get to Camp Cornie near Epupa Falls by early afternoon. The area had a lot of rain in the past season and it turned out that the Otjiveze river blocked our way until nightfall. The video ends with us stuck in the Ojiiveze river, 7km west of Swartbooi's Drift. Rescued by Gecko Mining personnel.
After our rescue we had to take the D3701 and C43 for 4 hours to reach Camp Cornie at 11pm. Unfortunately there was not enough light to film this. However, most of this route was done in the opposite direction the next day and was filmed.
