Shilton village is on Shill Brook: a stream that rises southwest of Burford, flows through Shilton and Alvescot to Black Bourton, where it becomes Black Bourton Brook, which joins the River Thames downstream from Radcot. Shepshed Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Leicestershire, and around 12 miles northwest of Leicester, is the town of Shepshed.

The name 'Shepshed' is believed to derive from 'hill where sheep graze'. The early development of the town was centred around the wool trade.

Situated at the heart of the town is St Botolph's Church. This dates back to the 11th century in origin, although the oldest surviving parts are the west tower and spire from the 13th century. There was also once a Cistercian monastery located between Shepshed and Loughborough. It was known as Garendon Abbey and was founded in 1133, and dissolved in 1536 during the Reformation.

Up until the 19th century, domestic framework knitting was a significant source of employment in Shepshed. At its peak there were over 1,000 frames in operation. However, this cottage industry ultimately declined with the emergence of textile factories, particularly in nearby Leicester.

In 1883 a railway station opened in Shepshed as part of the Charnwood Forest Railway. This was a branch line between Coalville and Loughborough. It was short-lived, however, as the station closed in 1931. Today, public transport to Shepshed consists of direct bus services from Leicester, Loughborough and Coalville among other locations.

Around Oadby Parade

Around Oadby Parade.
I made this video really to test a camera I'd just bought. A Canon PowerShot SX700 HS. I was interested in it because apparently it takes quite good quality video. It's certainly better quality video than my Sony Handycam. So it looks like the Canon will now be the one to use on my walk-about videos.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy these clips that I took around The Parade, in Oadby. They were taken on different days.

Bradgate Park

A quick tour of Bradgate Country Park, Newtown Linford, Leicestershire.

Bradgate Park was once the estate of the Greys of Groby. Sir John Grey (1432 - 1461) began the construction of Bradgate House, the ruins of which can still be seen today. His great-granddaughter, Lady Jane Grey , was Queen of England for 9 days during July, 1553. Lady Jane was deposed by Mary I and imprisoned in the Tower of London. She was executed for treason on February 12th, 1554 after a failed attempt by her supporters to restore her to the throne.

The folly know as Old John stands on a ridge some 690 feet above sea-level overloking the park, and is probably Leicestershire's best known landmark. It was built in 1748 as an observation tower to give the ladies a view of the race course which once circled the hill. The name Old John was given to the tower later, in memory of an old retainer who died accidentally when a bonfire collapsed during birthday celebrations near the tower.

In 1925 the Park was put up for sale by the Grey family. It was purchased by Charles Bennion (a co-founder of British United Shoe Machinery Co. Ltd, and resident of Leicester) and presented in trust to the people of Leicestershire on December 29th, 1928. Since then, Bradgate Park has been one of the most popular attractions in Leicestershire and now attracts more than one million visitors each year.

Victory House, London Leicester Square, MGallery by Sofitel | HOTEL REVIEW 2019

Victory House, London Leicester Square, MGallery by Sofitel has one of the best rated locations in London. It’s located on the popular Leicester square and walking distance to Soho, Piccadilly circus and China town.

There was nothing to fault about the décor of the room or the facilities which included a well-stocked tea and coffee station, fridge with complimentary water, safe, toiletries and free WIFI.

Their breakfast spread had a selection of fruit, cheese, yogurt, pastries, cold and hot dishes which include eggs, beans and bacon plus barista made coffee.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay again. If you are planning on staying here bear in mind that Leicester square can be a very lively area.
