Duchcov, Czech Republic from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Duchcov, Czech Republic from Travel with Iva Jasperson

Hi guys.....
The first documented reference to the town is from 1207, referring to the older name Hrabišín. The name of Duchcov is first mentioned in 1240. A brewery was established in 1675.
Until 1918, Dux (bilingual names Dux – Duchov at the end of the 19th century) was part of the Austrian monarchy (Austria side after the compromise of 1867), head of the district with the same name, one of the 94 Bezirkshauptmannschaften in Bohemia.
A post-office was opened in July 1857.
In 1918, Duchcov became a part of independent Czechoslovakia. In 1938, as a result of the Munich Agreement, the town was ceded to Nazi Germany as one of the municipalities in Sudetenland. It was placed until 1945 under the administration of the Regierungsbezirk Aussig of Reichsgau Sudetenland. In May 1945, after the liberation of Czechoslovakia, Duchcov returned under Czechoslovak administration. The Sudeten German population was expelled in 1945 (further to the Beneš decrees) and replaced by Czech settlers.

I visited Decin around four years ago as a day trip from Berlin. As a result I didn't have much time there, but I saw enough to encourage me to return four lears later for a better look of the city centre and superb Decin Castle.

We took an overnight trip with the FAMU kids to Duchcov, Czech Republic! The town itself was dead and resembled a ghost town. The buildings were falling apart and we were the only visitors to the town but it was a great trip nonetheless :)

Czech Republic: Olomouc, CD vintage Class 141 electric locos on local passenger trains

Czech Republic: At Olomouc station (Moravia), two CD vintage Class 141 electric locos are seen on local passenger trains.

141 037 departs on the 1231 to Nezamyslice and 141 009 is seen shortly after arrival on the 1159 from Prostejov.

Recorded 10th September 2008.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
ČSD Class E 499.1 (Class 141) - electric locomotives were built in Škoda Works in Plzeň for use in the Czechoslovakia on the ČSD. They were also used outside Czechoslovakia in Poland as the class EP05 and in the Soviet Union as ЧС3 (ChS3).

After the fall of the iron curtain and consequent upheavals in railway operations they remain in use with a number of railways. Still in the 1980s ČSD locomotives were renumbered to the class 141. After dividing Czechoslovakia in 1993 all locos of this class have remained in Czech republic.

The locomotive was produced in the years 1957-1960 in three types. 20E1, the prototype, different from serial production, 30E1 and 30E2. 61 engines were built in those series.

The prototype (E499.101) came into service on February 29, 1959. Most of locomotives stationed in Prague, but some of them were sent to Ústí nad Labem and Česká Třebová. Currently the whole series is being systematically withdrawn with last units used in Prague, Olomouc and Ústí nad Labem.

Class E499.1 electric locomotives have driving cabs on either end. This engine was not suited for multiple steering and shunting purposes. On a straight, horizontal track it could pull 600 t. passenger trains with the speed of up to 120 km/h and 1000 t. freight trains with the speed of 80 km/h.

České dráhy (ČD) or Czech Railways is the main railway operator in the Czech Republic. In 2010 its consolidated revenues reached CZK 41.0 billion (€1.6bn, $2.1bn). Revenues from passenger transport amounted to CZK 18.7 billion (65% transfer payments from the government, 25% intra-state transport, 10% international transport), revenues from freight transport operated by subsidiary ČD Cargo amounted to CZK 11.8 billion, revenues from traffic control invoiced to state-owned railway infrastructure operator SŽDC amounted to CZK 5.2 billion. With thirty-eight thousand employees[1] ČD Group is the largest Czech company by the number of employees.

The company was established in 1993, after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia as a successor of the Czechoslovak State Railways. It is a member of the International Railway Union (UIC Country Code for Czech Republic is 54), Community of European Railways and the Organization for Railways Cooperation (Asia and Europe).

Until 1 July 2008, České dráhy was the biggest employer in the Czech Republic. After experiencing regular losses and requiring government subsidies, the railway reported its first ever profit in 2007 although it receives government subsidies. Attempts to make it more efficient are currently ongoing and a recent plan to move passenger transport to an independent subsidiary was approved by the Czech government in January 2008.

ČD operates trains; fixed infrastructure (such as tracks) is managed by SŽDC. In December 2010, the Czech government proposed bringing SŽDC and ČD together in a single holding company. The government has also changed the subsidies available to ČD and SŽDC.

ČD Cargo, the cargo subsidiary, mainly transports raw materials, intermediate goods and containers. As of 2009, it is ranked in the top five largest railway cargo operators in Europe.

In 1980 Škoda produced ES 499.1001 and 1002 as prototype locomotives for the replacement of the existing ČSD fleet. Production series locomotives started to be delivered in 1984. Two single system derivatives were also created S 499.2 (AC) and E 499.3 (DC). During 1990 further development to run at 140 km/h lead to the ČD Class 362, but an order for 30 locos was canceled due to financial problems. Some ČD Class 363 and ŽSR Class 363 locomotives are being rebuilt as 362s.

So let's drive off to look for the coldest place in Germany and, dear friends, if you thought you were heading for the Alps, you're completely wrong. We drive ... exactly, to Kühnhaide near Marienberg, and there we find it, the coldest place in Germany - Kühnhaide. At the restaurant to the Schwarzwasser valley our tour begins. Those of you who regularly follow my tours will certainly remember, here we have already walked once, when we tried to find out which is the most beautiful hike in the Erzgebirge. But today we want to walk in a different direction. In the direction of Rübenau, but I don't want to describe the exact tour today, I will do that in a later film. Let yourselves be inspired and spoiled by the beautiful winter impressions today and in this sense, let's just start together now.
If you had fun on our winter hike, then I would be happy about a thumbs up or a subscription. But I would be even more interested in a comment from you, namely hand on heart - did you know where the coldest place in Germany is or where you would have looked for it?
In this sense, see you soon, I am looking forward to seeing you at my next movie
