It is in the heart of the Argens plain and on the edge of the Maures forest that the village stands on the side of a hill. Between the sea and the peaks, bordered by wooded hills, the village enjoys a Mediterranean climate with pleasant temperatures and more than reasonable sunshine.
In the village, out of sight and a few steps from the central square, the Parage district around its keep reveals a rich medieval past. The lands of Argens nourish many vineyards and the establishment of the wine house Côte de Provence in the town, makes it a wine capital.
Coming to Les Arcs means discovering the roots of Provence and it is with great pleasure that the village, its countryside landscapes, its shops and its inhabitants welcome you for your holidays or for a simple stopover.
HISTORY & HERITAGE
Enter the Parage district and come and admire the many medieval remains.
The clock tower and its campanile from 1662.
The chapel of St Pierre, a former parish church from the 12th century. A masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, it is used during the summer period as an exhibition space.
The tower: square keep from the 13th century. It once housed the lord's treasure consisting of archives and documents.
The walls. They formed a continuous enclosure pierced by four gates, the Porte du Réal, the Porte Milante, the Porte Basse or the Clock and the Porte Haute.
The remains of the castle, built in the 13th century and which was the scene of historical events such as the birth of Ste Roseline in 1263 and the signing of important acts concerning all of Provence.
Continue your visit with the Saint Jean Baptiste church, built in 1851. It contains a polyptych by Louis Bréa dated 1501 and you can contemplate a magnificent animated Provençal nativity scene there.
NATURE & TERROIR
The quality of our terroir and the climate of our region make our town a favorable place for growing vines. This activity has always been, and still is, important for our village.
As evidenced by the landscape of vineyards which is an integral part of the village, there are still many winegrowers in the area and nine estates cultivate high quality grape varieties.
The production of exceptional wines gives our estates a reputation throughout our region and for some well beyond our borders.
Take the time to meet our winegrowers, visit their cellars and taste their wines.
For amateurs, as for connoisseurs, enter the house of wines and let yourself be guided to discover all the aromas of the Côtes de Provence.
During a walk in the Maures forest, between rosemary and heather, in the middle of a land with golden reflections, come and admire the menhirs of the burrows. The 9 steles, accidentally discovered several years ago, are now accessible during a charming walk of a few kilometers in the heart of our hills.

We’re in Tourtour today, labeled one of the “most beautiful villages in France” (“Les Plus Beaux Villages de France”). Tourtour is a tiny Provençal place in the hinterland of the Côte d’Azur, an hour and a half's drive from Nice, and it's like entering another world where the clocks tick much more slowly... We’ll also take you to one of the many wineries along the way, Château Roubine. Château de Berne is a 1,500-acre private estate, situated in the Var region, in unspoiled Provencal countryside between Lorgues and Flayosc. Dating back to the 18th century, it is a truly exceptional site, promoting relaxation and wellbeing around two main themes: Provence and Wine. It is the ideal choice for today's Wine Tourism travellers.
Les Nouradons/ Les Arcs
Trans-en-Provence:
The village, which was originally located on St Victor's hill, took the name Trans (Latin: across) on moving across the river Nartuby. The name appears in 1004, in the proceedings of the cartulary of the Abbey of Saint Victor, Marseille. At the end of the twelfth century, the village came under the authority of the Count of Provence who gave it as a fief in 1200 to Giraud de Villeneuve. From that date until 1789, members of the Villeneuve family were the Lords of Trans. The seigneurial seat was transformed into a château-fort in the 14th century. From that time the village, decimated by the Black Death, expanded with the cultivation of olives. In 1506, Louis de Villeneuve, seigneur de Trans, received the title of marquis from Louis XII, in recompense for his actions in the Italian Wars.
Le Saut du Capelan:
Cascade Saut du Caplan is a nice waterfall in the little village of La Motte in the region Alpes cote d’Azur/Var.
La Motte is near the exit to Le Muy (A8). Follow the signs to Draguignan and then La Motte. In La Motte there are signs to the waterfall (Cascade) Saut du Caplan. At the end of the road park the car. From here it is a 10 minute walk.
(Cascade) Saut du Caplan is really worthwhile to visit after rainfall when the volume exceeds to a higher level. The river Nartuby plunges down over appr 25 meters. It seems a little bit less then 25 meters, but figures speak over 25-30 meters.
Not far away from Saut du Caplan you can find one of the most beautiful waterfalls in France, Cascade de Sillans west of Salernes.Saint Roseline
Gorges du Pennafort:
Les gorges de pennafort located In the south of the town of Callas, in the department of Var.
They are dominated to the west by the chapel Notre-Dame de Pennafort.
Not well indicated on the road , you have to park your car in the parking and cross the street then you walk along the endre river .
To access the canyon you have on your right a private property with a meadow ( be quiet).
This is about one hour of walk with a nice view and the good sound of birds.
Chateau d'Esclans:
Château d’Esclans is located on an exceptional site, on elevated land near the Gorges de Pennafort, twenty five kilometers northwest of the ancient Roman city of Frejus on the Mediterranean coast. The first traces of the château’s site date back to the times of the Gauls during which its location served as a lookout point to spot intruders coming by boat into the Gulf of Frejus. The château’s cellar structure or foundation (known today as the oldest in the region) housed an original Château that was given by the Comte de Provence to Gérard De Villeneuve, in 1201. The current château, inspired by Tuscan Villa design, was built during the mid 19th century.
Château Sainte Roseline:
Château Sainte Roseline is a magnificent Provence winery located in Les Arcs-Sur-Argens. The famous and historic chapel on the estate has the relics of Saint Roseline as well as many works of art like a Marc Chagall master piece.

Flayosc to Draguignan
This short stretch of EuroVelo8 is one of the most difficult. Without dedicated infrastructure, little space to create it, and steep hills in and out of Draguignan, the EV8 planners had to come up with a solution. Their signed route takes cyclists on a long detour, up over and down a substantial hill. Here we offer our alternative. There is still one short steep climb coming out of Draguignan. But the route is shorter, less hilly, and partially car-free. Oh, and there is a narrow 100 metre footpath along the way.

Draguignan to Les Arcs
The 14 km long Vigne á Vélo is a great connecting cycleway running south of the EV8 at Draguignan. Until you reach the outskirts of Les Arcs, it is almost completely free of motor traffic. It is a signed route. However, we missed badly-placed signage a few times, and they peter out in Les Arcs. You can read the full article at
