St Mary's Church, Martlesham
I had exactly one hour spare this morning so quickly nipped out to St Mary's Church, Martlesham, as its an an area I have been meaning to film for a while.
Forgetting it takes 40 min as a round trip, this the result of about 10-15 minutes of filming!
A tricky shot to capture because of the trees, the best I could do was a rather flat pull back because there was only one gap I could see, a lift and pitch up and finally a rotate to catch the horizon.
This was my third and best effort...
My slow pans are still a bit jittery so I will have to keep tinkering with the settings! Anyway I got the shot and flew away in one piece which is the main thing.
I even manage to get a clip of the tower for a dreaded YouTube short (though I don't see it going viral!)
As you can probably see the church has lots of trees very close (thanks once again Victorians!) the church was renovated extensively in the 19th and early 20th Century but much of it dates back to Medieval 14th & 15th Century.
Listed in 1966, 'British Listed buildings' describes at thus:
Parish church. West tower C15 with C14 nave and south porch. Chancel rebuilt
c.1836 and east end again in 1905. Tower is of random flint and ashlar with
stepped diagonal buttresses with flushwork of sacred initials at base;
flushwork on battlements. Nave and chancel are of flint and stucco with plain
tiled roofs. Interior of nave with heptagonal roof c.1900; original hammer
beam roof was reused in rebuilt chancel. C14 octagonal font. Pulpit dated
1614; some old poppy heads remain on some benches with animals on arms. There
are six divisions of the dado of the screen now on south side of chancel. A
fresco to St. Christopher was uncovered c.1900 on north wall. A stained glass
window in the Arts and Crafts manner by Walter J. Pearce is dated 1903. II*
for tower.
A rather dour description for such a lovely Suffolk Church, in a wonderful setting.
I will return in the summertime to catch the Sunrise because it has such a great Eastern aspect.
The village of Martlesham is not too far away and the slow pan to the East (a rather watery Sun!) captures Matrlesham Creek heading to meet the Rive Deben. If we head to the right the Deben makes its way towards Woodbridge, which I did visit but was way too busy (I want to film an old Tide Mill there).
We then pan right and to the horizon, as the River Deben meanders its way out past Waldringfield, Ramsholt, Hemley and finally out to the sea at Felixstowe Ferry & Bawdsey.

It really is a pretty part of the world!

Impressions of Tunis, Tunisia
Tunisia is a beautiful and exotic country, situated along the Mediterranean Sea in northern Africa. I am spending several weeks in the country, staying in the capital city of Tunis. In my first video from Tunisia, I explore Tunis and show you some of the places that demand to be visited. Those are places such as the Medina of Tunis and the Bardo National Museum.
In the coming weeks, I will take you to some other places around the country that are both gorgeous and fascinating.

NMBS/SNCB is an autonomous government company, formed in 1926 as successor to the Belgian State Railways. In 2005, the company was split up into three parts: Infrabel, which manages the railway infrastructure, network operations and network access, the public railway operator NMBS/SNCB itself to manage the freight (B-Cargo) and passenger services, and NMBS/SNCB-Holding, which owns both public companies and supervises the collaboration between them. Essentially, this was a move to facilitate future liberalisation of railway freight and passenger services in agreement with European regulations. Several freight operators have since received access permissions for the Belgian network. In February 2011, NMBS/SNCB Logistics began operating as a separate business.
Faced with rising losses, in June 2012, the Belgian transport minister announced further reform: NMBS/SNCB Holding would be split up, so NMBS/SNCB (the train operator) would be separate from Infrabel (the infrastructure owner). Unions oppose the reform.

NMBS/SNCB Classical twin EMUs (also referred by their construction year - AM50 for Automotrice 1950 up to AM79 for the last units from 1979) are electric multiple unit trains operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB). They are the standard train for internal workings under the Belgian standard 3000 Volts DC overhead lines.
Classical EMUs were originally painted in dark green, with small yellow stripes surrounding the front lights. As those were considered insufficiently visible, the front door was also painted in yellow and the stripes were enlarged.
A subset of 22 EMUs was built with stainless steel body instead of (regular) carbon steel. This remains a one shot trial as the next generations were equipped with carbon steel bodies.
Another subset of 6 EMUs were specifically adapted for airport service, with more space between seats and a huge luggage compartment. Although they were operated by SNCB staff, access was restricted to Belgian airlines travellers with a dedicated platform at Brussels Central Station. A blue painting scheme was also chosen to identify those EMUs.
In 1999, classical EMUs built in the seventies were involved in a refurbishing program which included comfort upgrade (interior replacement, sound system, closed circuit toilets) and repainting in the light gray livery with blue and red lines under the windows. Few units were still in the older green delivery when refurbished. The last 40 to be refurbished units received extra features (LED information displays, multi-service compartments for bicycles or standing passengers) for suburban CityRail service.
In 2013, a hundred non-refurbished units were scrapped, after many of the Desiro Mainline Class AM 08 entered into revenue service.

The series AM 75/76/77 (also called Varkensneus (pig's snout)) of the Belgian State Railways (NMBS / SNCB) is a series of 140 kmh EMUs.
It is mainly used in domestic local and regional traffic ( L and P trains ), but also in interregional traffic of the NMBS / SNCB and can be combined with railcars of the NMBS / SNCB series AM 62-79 . A unit consists of four cars, only the two middle cars are driven, while the trains serve as control car . The trainsets were gray when painted with an orange stripe painted. Later, they were repainted burgundy.
From 2015 to 2020, the complete series will be modernized for at least 15 additional years of operation. The trainsets are equipped with new interiors and windows, vacuum toilets, accessible areas, electronic information displays, first-class outlets and air conditioners in the driver's cabs. The inverters are renewed and the doors are rebuilt on key operation. The new paint is light gray with red doors, a blue stripe on floor level and yellow warning areas on the fronts.
