Can I be LUCKY on the Snow Hill Lines? Visiting Dorridge to Acocks Green

The Snow Hill Lines has a reputation of trains being ether delayed or cancelled but, in this video, SimOnTrains is visiting 5 Stations on the Snow Hill Lines without encountering a cancelled train! While doing a bit of Snow Hill Lines Trainspotting

The Rail Journey starts at Rugeley Town as SimOnTrains heads to Birmingham and focus on the Chiltern Mainline between Dorridge station and Acocks Green station, taking in Widney Manor station, Solihull train station and Olton station and hopefully encounter some Class 68 Diesel Locomotives as well with other trains operated by West Midlands Railway, CrossCountry Trains and also any freight trains running on this stretch of the line.

The question is.... can I be lucky on the Snow Hill Lines?

Visit Coventry - Coventry Canal Walk

Once a key trade route into the city, the canal is now used for leisure purposes. This walk takes you from the city centre, to the canal basin and along the towpath, past some of Coventry’s industrial heritage including the Cashs Houses, the original cottage industry. It’s a peaceful walk surrounded by nature - it’s at times hard to believe you’re still in the city!

Vintage train film - Let's go to Birmingham - 1962

This vintage railway film, produced in 1962 by British Transport Films, speeds the viewer from Paddington to Birmingham Snow Hill in five and a half minutes - the equivalent of 960mph!

The footage was shot from the cab of a British Railway's 145kph (90mph) Blue Pullman power car.

Sadly, the driver in this film, Ernest Morris, was killed on 15 August, 1963, (about a year after this movie was filmed) in the Knowle and Dorridge rail crash when his express train collided with a freight train at 32 kph (20 mph).

GWR 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe at full speed through Dorridge! | The Shakespeare Express | 26/3/23

For years Vintage Trains' Shakespeare Express has been hauled uniquely by 7029 Clun Castle, but today, after the recent return from overhaul of sister No. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, she was given the chance to stretch her legs on the Shakespeare Express circuit this week. I know most of my friends opted to stay home but I was never going to miss my favourite locomotive's first solo Shakespeare run after over 5 years. Although I love 7029 Clun Castle, 5043 seems just something else in terms of its power.

A special friend of mine helped me on locations so big thanks to her! We had originally planned to cover the tender first runs but never did due to me messing up my timings after the clocks went forwards (duh!). So I just did the plans for the return run instead, heading first to Dorridge station. 5043 absolutely smashed its way through, near its top speed of 75mph! I left the main camera running on platform 1 and got an extra shot off the bridge, which shook quite furiously when 5043 passed underneath!! After this I returned home and ate some food, before driving out to Bearley for the next shot. It wasn't anything vastly special but I've never done it before so it was well worth a try. After that I returned back home!

A big thanks to my dad who accompanied me in the car, as well as to Vintage Trains who are running these Shakespeare Expresses more often this year. Well done to the crew of 5043 for putting in one hell of a show at Dorridge! If you would like to travel on one of these tours (and they're priced quite reasonably given what you get!), follow this link:

Hope you enjoy!! Regards, Dan

35028 Clan Line - The Belmond British Pullman !! (09/10/2019):

This exclusive fine dining pullman train conveyed passengers from London to Leamington Spa for onward travel by coach to Stratford (Via Mary Ardens house).
It is seen here initially at Dorridge running empty coaching stock(ECS) from Leamington to Tyseley TMD (Birmingham) for servicing .
Later seen again as ECS returning tender first to Stratford via the North Warwick line at Hall Green for her return to London.
Due to a late departure my safe 'window' became rapidly diminished and I was faced with a complete wipe out which thankfully was avoided...... Just!!

Lovely to see 35028 back in the West Midlands and also to catch up again with Liam Marsh (Marsh Steam Videos) at Dorridge.

A 'Steamless' Afternoon At Dorridge Including 'The Shakespeare Express'!!

Well, being unaware of the fact that 7029 had been pulled off at short notice I went out for the second round trip of the day initially to join the usual throng at Dorridge.
A few other workings are featured prior to 47773 crawling past & running enexpectedly (hence a quick camera shift) through the platform 3 loop.
No wonder I was the only one filming this pretty none event so decided not to hang around for the final return run back to Birmingham.

Yes, I understand the steam ban, just not the inconsistency of the way it's applied by NR having being lead to believe they had reached an operating agreement with VT to run steam but literally worked by diesel. They apparently cancelled 7029 after she was lit up for the days work?

Steam Locomotives in the Summer | UK Mainline Summer Steam Compilation

Today's video deviates from the usual uploads - I don't often post compilations but I thought I would as I'm currently on holiday in Italy and fancied keeping the uploads coming despite that. I decided on a fairly relevant theme - it's currently 43* C where I am so definitely quite summery!! Included in this compilation are clips from 2023 all the way back to 2020, from early May until late September, featuring a huge variety of shots, locomotives and locations all compacted into 24 minutes of video. Obviously there are many clips I'd have loved to include but to in the interests of my not scorching my computer's hardware I've decided to keep it shorter lol. I hope you all enjoy this extravaganza of UK Steam on the Mainline in summer!

Additionally a huge thanks to all those who made these clips possible and to my secondary planner for her helping me choose a theme lol. I will be back in the UK towards the end of July so stay tuned for some more steam action when I'm back! For now I wish a lovely summer to all viewers. Ciao!

Dorridge - Cyclist Hassles

After a 50 mile potter around Warwickshire, and only one significant trauma not on video (BMW, country lane blind corner, oncoming car, ignoring warning from me) I got back near home and in a couple of miles had a run of little incidents to set me on edge.

First, coming off a roundabout, the car boot queue had me easing off while the road cleared, but MinMan has to barge through - note car emerging from the exit as it passes.

Learner driver sitting in the road... I'm quite forgiving but the instructor waited until I was right on him before leaning across and waving through. Would you ride in front of a learner doing a 3 point turn?

Then we have the Audi driver. Note dad riding on a very quiet residential road, protecting daughter - sensible cycle training. I've just passed a parked car on the blind bend and Audi driver is already ready to pass though the driver has no idea what is oncoming and will have to abandon as round the corner is a parked car that the driver is unaware of. Bah!

Where are these 10 Pacer 142s I filmed over the last 12 months.

Over twelve months ago when I saw a class 142 I would film it, as you will see I never filmed many, but in this video it tell you what has happened to these ten I did film.
I am working on another video which involves this unit which has been in the news a lot lately.
