Mong Cai officially became a Class II city a few years ago and it had shown its strength and beauty every step of the way since then. Amazing city with great Chinese influence. People here speak both Vietnamese and Chinese. Kids are encouraged, strongly, to study Chinese. The foods are heavily influenced by Chinese flavors. Some people have Chinese facial features. No doubt love sparks often here between citizens of the two great countries. And I am glad it does every day. Both business and romantic relationships changed the landscapes and the cultures in the region. People prefer Chinese over English, Chinese RMB over American Dollars, Chinese goods over Western goods, etc... There is a hotel that I didn't cover in the video that is located in the city, on Vietnamese soil, but only reserved for Chinese citizens or others, but not Vietnamese. Loi Lai Hotel is the name. There are services such as massages and spa that Viets can use but they cannot stay over. How interesting is that? If you have time, come check out Mong Cai city. You won't regret. If the border opens then, you can even make a day trip to Dongxing, China. Stay young, stay hungry!

Yangshuo, a county and resort town in southern China’s Guangxi region, is known for its dramatic karst mountain landscape and outdoor recreation. The town is set amid pinnacles like Bilian Feng (Green Lotus Peak), which has a hiking trail to the top. Tour boats offer cruises on the Li River past picturesque countryside from the town of Guilin to the north.
Guilin is a city in southern China known for its dramatic landscape of limestone karst hills. At its center are 2 lakes, Shanhu (Cedar) and Ronghu (Banyan), remaining from a medieval-era moat that once surrounded the city. Boats travel through these and other lakes via connected rivers. On Shanhu Lake’s shore, twin pagodas, the Sun and Moon, light up the sky at night.

Nanning Walking Tour, the Stunning Capital City of Guangxi, China | 4K HDR
This trip to Nanning in November really impressed me, and I fell in love with this unique city.
The people here are very kind and friendly. That afternoon, I was going to buy a banana on the side of the road, but the peddler gave me a banana for free. He told me that a banana is very cheap, and it doesn't matter if he gives me one.
I asked for directions here, and every time passers-by patiently guided me how to go, it made me feel very warm inside. I really, really like this city. In return, I shot a three-and-a-half-hour episode of the city as a thank you to the city.

Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is the political, economic and cultural center of the region.
It has the most prosperous economy in Southwest China, supplying an abundance of agricultural products to the whole Guangxi.
Bordering Vietnam, this city is neighbor to Guangzhou, close to Hong Kong and Macau, and faces Southeast Asia.
This advantageous location makes the city a commercial and communication center, opening China to Southeast Asia.
Pleasant climate endows Nanning with evergreen trees and fragrant flowers all year round, hence the name 'Green City.'
In such a beautiful land, more than 30 ethnic minority groups have been living harmoniously for 1,680 years.
Zhuang is the largest minority group of China. Over 90% of them live in Guangxi. Their history and ethnic culture add charm to the city.
Its beautiful subtropical scenery and exotic ethnic minority culture have been attracting millions of tourists for years.
Being a modern city, Nanning's accommodation and shopping are diverse and well developed for visitors.
Hotels and hostels of different standards can meet various needs. In the city's commercial center, supermarkets, department stores, specialty commodity streets, bookstores and other retail markets offer a variety of merchandise.

Shinning stars are reflected in the tranquil Yongjiang River. Sitting on the square or taking a walk along the river is a good choice for those who want to unwind after a busy day at work.
Strolling through the streets decorated by colorful neon lights, visitors will be dazzled by the many food stalls, bars, nightclubs, gyms and coffee bars. These places are the favorites of the younger generation; while malls and department stores are filled with people shopping until 23:00 every night.
One recent trend is that more and more people, especially young men, choose to study even after a hard day's work. As a result, there are many schools and organizations offering evening classes in remedial English, computer training and a variety of other subjects. This will make this city a more educated and sophisticated city in the future.

If you want to travel from Vietnam to China by bus we suggest booking tickets over at It was a super easy day. The bus was comfortable (there were only 3 of us) and it didn’t take more than 8 hrs total.
The border itself was a breeze. When crossing from Vietnam into China there was hardly any crowds which made it super easy. If your backpacking Vietnam and heading into China, we suggest this method of travel from Vietnam to China. It was a far better choice than the 12+ hour train journey.

Nanning is the capital and largest city by population of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Southern China. It is known as the Green City because of its abundance of lush subtropical foliage. Located in the South of Guangxi, Nanning is surrounded by a hilly basin, with a warm, monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate.
Beginning in 1949, Nanning's economy began developing beyond its former role as essentially a commercial and administrative centre, as it underwent sustained industrial growth. Today, Nanning is considered the economic, financial and cultural center of Guangxi, and the chief centre for the training of the Zhuang minority in Guangxi. The People's Park is located in the center of the city.
The city is home to several notable universities, including Guangxi University, Guangxi Medical University, Guangxi University for Nationalities and Guangxi Arts University.
Nanning is home of the 21st tallest building in the People's Republic of China, the Diwang International Commerce Center, at 276 m (906 ft), currently the tallest building in Guangxi and in southwestern China outwith Chongqing. The second tallest building in Nanning is the World Trade Commerce City at 218 meters. The city currently has seven buildings taller than 100 m (330 ft), built or under construction.
Nanning has many parks with tropical lush green landscape, it is one of the greenest cities in China, and it's known as Green City. Nanning's downtown skyline is rapidly changing and the city is becoming an important hub in China.
Recently, the government has begun a citywide beautification plan which aimed to further clean up the city and improve its image. This involved curtailing the number of street-side food vendors operating without proper licenses and restricting parking in busy streets. The program has achieved initial success, long-term efforts are still needed to deliver lasting results.

The Chinese security guards seemed to communicate that foreigners could cross the Mong Cai/Dongxing border between 8am-8pm. I crossed at 6pm.Thu 22 April, 2010. It was a quick crossing. I'm not sure about weekends/holidays ect. I posted this vid as there is little info available on this border crossing when I crossed.
