City Island

City Island is a neighborhood in the northeastern Bronx in New York City, located on an island of the same name approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long[3] by 0.5 miles (0.80 km) wide. City Island is located at the extreme western end of Long Island Sound,[3] south of Pelham Bay and east of Eastchester Bay.

At one time the island was incorporated within the boundaries of Pelham, Westchester County, New York, but the island is now part of New York City. City Island is part of the Pelham Islands, a group of islands that once belonged to Thomas Pell. The body of water between City Island and the even smaller, uninhabited Hart Island to the east is known as City Island Harbor. The small island adjacent to the northeast is High Island. The Stepping Stones Light, marking the main shipping channel into New York, is off the southern tip of City Island, near the Long Island shore.

As of the 2010 Census, the island had a population of 4,362.[3][4] Its land area is 0.395 square miles (1.02 km2). The island is part of Bronx Community District 10, and its ZIP Code is 10464.

In 1960 City Island became the last community in New York City to get dial telephone service. Until then eight operators in a private home on Schofield Street connected all calls. The dial exchange began as TT5, then 212, and now 885.

***
Belden Point

Belden Point is at the southernmost section of City Island is Belden Point, named for William Belden, a developer who opened an amusement park and resort in the area in 1887. In the early part of the 20th century, the area was a favored recreation location for business tycoons including Vincent Astor, J.P. Morgan and William Randolph Hearst. Today, Belden Point is home to a number of popular seafood restaurants. A new public greenspace was dedicated in 2016 at its waterfront tip.

***
Bronx

The Bronx is one of the five boroughs of New York City, in the U.S. state of New York. It has the same boundaries as Bronx County, the third-most-densely populated county in the United States. The Bronx is south of Westchester County; north and east of the New York City borough of Manhattan, across the Harlem River; and north of the New York City borough of Queens, across the East River. The Bronx has a land area of 42 square miles (109 km2) and a population of 1,418,207 in 2019. Of the five boroughs, it has the fourth-largest area, fourth-highest population, and third-highest population density. It is the only borough of New York City not primarily on an island.

***
The Bronx Name

The borough (The Bronx) is named after The Bronx River which was named 200 years before the borough, this river was named after Swedish farmer Jonas Bronck who lived in Mott Haven BX.

The Bronx has a “the” because it’s named after the Bronx River, which runs through the borough. The Bronx River, in turn, was named after Jonas Bronck ( Sweden ) the first European settler in the area.

Jonas Bronck's farmstead consisted of approximately 274 (680 acres), The site is in present-day Mott Haven, about 1,000 feet south of Bruckner Boulevard and 500 feet east of the Willis Avenue Bridge

There’s a capital “T” in the official name of the borough, it should be The Bronx, not the Bronx

***
Hart Island

Hart Island aka Potter's Field is the largest tax-funded cemetery in the world.

Hart Island, sometimes referred to as Hart's Island, is located at the western end of Long Island Sound, in the northeastern Bronx in New York City. Measuring approximately 1 mile long by 0.33 miles wide, Hart Island is part of the Pelham Islands archipelago, to the east of City Island.

The city is able to recycle graves after 25 years. So after a body decompresses to skeletal remains, it’s legal for those graves to be recycled. That’s the reason New York City has never run out of burial space

⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC (Narrated) : Elmhurst, Queens from 74th St to Queens Center Mall (July 16, 2019)

Google Maps Route:

A narrated walk in the neighborhood of Elmhurst, Queens along Broadway and Queens Boulevard from the 74th Street-Broadway/Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue Subway Station to Queens Center Mall.

From Wikipedia:
Elmhurst (formerly Newtown) is a working/middle class neighborhood in the borough of Queens in New York City. It is bounded by Roosevelt Avenue on the north; the Long Island Expressway on the south; Junction Boulevard on the east; and the New York Connecting Railroad on the west.

Elmhurst is located in Queens Community District 4 and its ZIP Code is 11373. It is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 110th Precinct. Politically, Elmhurst is represented by the New York City Council's 25th District and small parts of the 21st and 29th Districts.

Elmhurst's rapidly growing Chinatown (艾浒 唐人街) is the second largest in Queens, the other Chinatown being located in Flushing. Previously a small area with Chinese shops on Broadway between 81st Street and Cornish Avenue, this newly evolved second Chinatown in Queens has now expanded to 45th Avenue and Whitney Avenue and is developing as a satellite of the Flushing Chinatown. It is the second largest Chinese enclave in Queens, behind Flushing.

In Chinese translation, Elmhurst is named 艾浒 (Àihǔ in Standard Chinese). There are also many other Southeast Asian businesses and shops in the area, including Malaysian Chinese, Singaporean Chinese, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese. Hong Kong Supermarket and New York Supermarket serve as the largest Chinese supermarkets selling different food varieties to the Elmhurst Chinatown. The Asia Bank serves as the only Chinese bank and the main financial resource business for the growing enclave, though HSBC, Chase, and other banks also are located in Elmhurst along Broadway.

The Highest Point

Todt Hill and all of Staten Island

Todt Hill (/ˈtoʊt/ TOTE[1]) is a 401-foot-tall (122 m) hill formed of serpentine rock on Staten Island, New York. It is the highest natural point in the five boroughs of New York City and the highest elevation on the entire Eastern Seaboard from Florida to Cape Cod.[2] The summit of the ridge is largely covered in woodlands as part of the Staten Island Greenbelt, although much of the surrounding area is developed and residential.[3] It is considered one of the most exclusive and most expensive areas of Staten Island.[4]

Westport Point 4K - Walking through a Colonial New England Massachusetts Fishing Village Town

Join me as I walk through the historical New England fishing town of Westport Point, Massachusetts. This town is of great historical interest with a large collection of colonial houses. I start at the Westport River Harbor, and walk north through the historic district on Main Street, finishing near the Westport Point United Methodist Church.

Westport Point is a small fishing village in Bristol County, Massachusetts, near Dartmouth, and between Fall River and New Bedford. Full of colonial history, it was a significant maritime center during colonial days, and was a center of shipbuilding and other maritime activities. Read all about its history here:

⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking Poughkeepsie, NY (Narrated) : Little Italy Residential Area (October 12, 2019)

Google Maps Route:

A quick walk in Poughkeepsie, NY from the Metro North Station through the Residential Area of Little Italy along Verrazzano Boulevard, Bridge Street, Mill Street, and Dongan Place.

From Wikipedia:
Poughkeepsie (/pəˈkɪpsi/ pə-KIP-see), officially the City of Poughkeepsie, separate from the Town of Poughkeepsie, is a city in the state of New York, United States, which is the county seat of Dutchess County. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 32,736. Poughkeepsie is in the Hudson Valley midway between New York City and Albany, and is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area (which belongs to the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area). The name derives from a word in the Wappinger language, roughly U-puku-ipi-sing, meaning the reed-covered lodge by the little-water place, referring to a spring or stream feeding into the Hudson River south of the present downtown area.

Poughkeepsie is known as The Queen City of the Hudson. It was settled in the 17th century by the Dutch and became New York's second capital shortly after the American Revolution. It was chartered as a city in 1854. Major bridges in the city include the Walkway over the Hudson, a former railroad bridge (originally called the Poughkeepsie Bridge) which re-opened as a public walkway on October 3, 2009; and the Mid-Hudson Bridge, a major thoroughfare built in 1930 that carries U.S. Route 44 (concurrent with State Route 55) over the Hudson. The city of Poughkeepsie lies in New York's 18th congressional district.
