Dompierre-sur-Mer campsite ????| La Rochelle | Road Trip Europe # 9
You can read the journal: Part 9 of our Road Trip Europe and we find ourselves in the region of La Rochelle on a campsite near Dompierre-sur-Mer.
After having traversed La Rochelle centre itself and determined that the campsite there was full (due to a large live music event) we fell back on 'plan B'. After having visited the very impressive aquarium - of course).
Aquarium Visit:
Plan B was a campsite a little further inland in the village of Dompierre-Sur-Mer. A pretty cool little camping that has a focus on silence (except for kids playing) and an appreciation of the surrounding nature. A pretty cool ablution block but little else in the form of a view or a swimming pool.
Sadly I was not impressed with the €10 'booking fee' charged on top of the €19 camp pitch, simply because I phoned to check if they had space... If the campsite was very busy - no problem. But it was barely half-full... Not much else to report...

La plage des Raisins Clairs est une magnifique plage de sable blanc. Elle est bordée de raisiniers qui permettent d'avoir de l'ombre pour ceux qui ne désirent pas s'exposer directement au soleil.
C'est une plage très fréquentée. Heureusement, il y a un immense stationnement gratuit derrière la plage.
La baignade est très agréable à cet endroit. Le lagon, aux eaux turquoises, est protégé par une barrière de corail. On peut y faire de la plongée en apnée.
Elle est également propice à la marche.

Read journal: Part 15 of our Europe Road Trip and we park for the night at the most average campsite we have seen yet in France. Camping Les Chambons is approximately two-thirds of the way down from Paris to Limoges in the Indre département. As such it is a good place to stop over on the way south...
The river 'Creuse' runs beside the campsite and there are a lot of trees surrounding the site as well as giving some shade on certain pitches. It seems to be a transit camping with good ablutions and a small café/restaurant. You just never know where you'll end up on a road trip - some better than others...

La Plage
A large and family-friendly site, set on the west Brittany coast with direct access to a lovely sandy beach. The layout gives the site a feeling of space and its bright bar and restaurant are open all season.
The nearby town of Le Guilvinec has a vibrant street market each Tuesday and Saturday while there are some fabulous beaches in the area and Quimper, the cultural heart of Finistère, is just over half-an-hour away.

Hello, petit aperçu de l'avancée des travaux de la future avenue Simone Veil à La Rochelle-Aytré appelée aussi liaison urbaine des Cottes Mailles avec le Drone DJI Mavic air 2.
Nous pouvons voir l'avenue principale pour les voitures et en parallèle la piste cyclable. Deux des 4 giratoires sont visibles désormais
Passage au dessus du marais de Tasdon qui a été revalorisé il y a quelques mois.
En effet la Communauté d’Agglomération de la Rochelle a souhaité mettre en place un plan de revalorisation du marais de Tasdon. Le site présente un très fort intérêt écologique et doit être préservé.
Une prochaine vidéo sera consacrée à l'installation de la nouvelle passerelle en gare de La Rochelle, qui est sur le point d'être installée.

« Snowbirds » : c’est le terme qu’on utilise en anglais pour désigner les oiseaux migrateurs. Mais également les Canadiens qui s’enfuient au soleil pour échapper au froid de l’hiver. Et ça on peut le faire facilement parce que le soleil, il n’est qu’à 3 heures… et ce même en hiver ! Le Canadien s’échappe régulièrement entre janvier et mars. Si vous venez ici, je vous conseille de faire de même. Et dans cette vidéo, quelques petits conseils !

Quelles sont les destinations soleil préférées des Canadiens en hiver ?
Ici, je ne vais aborder que les destinations soleil depuis l’Ontario et le Québec. C’est en effet une toute autre histoire pour la côte Pacifique du pays… mais on vous en reparlera, promis !
Cuba : les plages de Cuba sont tout simplement parmi les plus belles du monde, et la mer y est magnifique !
La Floride, aux États-Unis : toute proche, avec des activités beaucoup plus variées. Orlando est un gigantesque parc d’attraction alors qu’à Miami vous pouvez vous prélasser sur les plages de South Beach et visiter les quartiers art-déco.
Le Mexique : Cancun et la Riviera Maya ne sont qu’à 4h d’ici et sont un véritable petit paradis pour touristes !
Et bien sûr toutes les îles des Caraïbes (Rep Dominicaine / Jamaïque / Puerto Rico / Grenade / Ste Lucie / La Barbade…) qui sont entre 3 à 4h de vol depuis Toronto !
Tout ça pour vous dire que les destinations tropicales vous en avez en pagaille ! Vous n’aurez que l’embarras du choix !

Comment s’y rendre ?
Par la route : alors oui bien sûr, cela limite automatiquement votre champ d’action à la Floride grosso-modo mais sachez que beaucoup de Canadiens font ce road-trip de 18h chaque années ! L’essence est beaucoup moins chère qu’en France et pour une famille, c’est souvent l’option la plus économique !
Par avion : les deux grandes compagnies aériennes au Canada sont Air Canada et Westjet. Mais pour les vacances, visitez également leur sites annexes comme Vacances Air Canada ou Vacances Westjet ! A visiter également, les incontournables comme Expedia ou les sites de compagnies low-cost comme Sunwing !
Autre option à considérer : vous envolez depuis les Etats-Unis via les aéroports frontaliers. Par exemple pour nous, le plus proche se situe à Buffalo, dans l’état de New-York. De l’autre côté de la frontière, il y a beaucoup plus de choix… à des prix très souvent beaucoup plus intéressants !
