TOP 5 EASY PEAKS in the DOLOMITES - Hiking Tips

Download the GPX tracks of the hikes!

If you want to support the channel and my adventures :-)

Dolomites are one of my favourite mountain areas, and the best way to discover them is HIKING!
In this video I'm showing you 5 easy tops in the Dolomites.

NOTE: you still need to have a bit of experience with hiking to achieve these peaks
Also, some of these hikes have some easy parts of via ferrata. I personally didn't use climbing kit in these cases, but consider doing it if you feel like you want to be safer.

Col De La Puina:
After passing the beautiful Passo Staulanza, you'll keep driving down for a couple kilometers to reach a wide parking spot on your right. You will follow a wide gravel road in the forest, that will quickly take you to Rifugio Città di Fiume. From here, you'll keep going up, and you'll turn right to follow a grassy ridgeline. The last part is quite steep, but you will quickly make it to the first top, and after that, to the highest one.

Gran Cir:
The hike start from one of the Most Popular mountain passes in the Dolomites, Passo Gardena. From here, you will follow the trail number 2 that rises crossing many ski slopes.
You are getting closer to the rocks, and you will hike all the way up a rocky culoir.
From here, a very easy iron rope will guide you on a wide ledge. This part requires a bit of attention but it's technically very easy. You will soon reach the upper part of the peak, and a trail with some other easy parts of via ferrata will lead you to the top!

Croda Negra:
From the Parking lot of Passo Falzarego, you'll start following the trail number 441 that takes to Rifugio Nuvolau. After 15minutes, you will turn right following the trail number 442.
At one point, you will find a 2m high rocky passage. it's technically super easy and not exposed.
After that, you will find yourself on the higher part of this big rocky hill, and you'll just follow the ridge. In 1 and half hour you will be on top, and you'll be able to admire the huge group of tofane in front of you, cinque torri in the valley, and so many other layers of mountains.

Monte Cernera:
The hike starts from the famous Passo Giau.
You'll start hiking the trail n436, which will give you wonderful views of your final destination.
At one point, the path splits. On the left, Forcella Giau. On the Right, MONTE CERNERA.
you will follow a beautiful traverse with an amazing view towards Passo Giau and Tofane.
Now the most technical part of the strail starts. You will follow a very easy iron rope that will take you to an upper plateau. After a second short technical part, you will arrive very close to the summit!

Monte Coldai:
The hike starts from Palafavera, Val di Zoldo, just like the huge round trip that I showed you in the previous video. You'll start following a wide gravel road. In 30minutes you will be at Malga Pioda, and the path will get more narrow and steep. You will reach Rifugio coldai and you'll quickly make it to sella coldai, right over a wonderful little lake. Your goal is the top right over the lake, opposite to civetta. So you'll turn right and will follow the trail that will quickly take you to the top!

Dolo, Italy

Dolo is located between Padova and Venice, one of the towns of the Riviera del Brenta and has many Venetian palaces. There is a place to park one's vehicle on the western side of the town as I show in the video which is alongside the Brenta.

The growth of the town of Dolo is due to the gradual downsizing of the maritime power of Venice which was historically oriented towards Dalmatia, the Aegean Sea and the Middle East, occurred concurrently with the fall of the Byzantine Empire, the Islamic expansion and the new opening of navigation routes to the Americas.

The resulting was the need to address inland its new commercial interests.

At the beginning of the fifteenth century, documents testify to the existence of a village which, developing, gave rise to the economic importance of Dolo, always linked to the construction of its water mills collecting the wheat from the nearby agricultural lands and then grinding the flour and embarking same into cargo boats pulled by horses along the banks of the Brenta Canal to the lagoon, from where they continued directly up to the Venice island settlement.

Drinking water, too, was carried from Dolo to the center of Venice by cargo boats with big barrels filled directly from springs of the little river Seriola.

The territory was affected by massive hydraulic works that led to the diversion of the main bed of the river Brenta through an artificial canal with new mouths along the southern sea approaches of the port of Chioggia, while just one part of the old Brenta still flows into the lagoon near the location of Fusina.

The purpose of these megalithic hydraulic works was primarily to prevent the progressive flooding of the lagoon by the fresh water of the rivers and thus maintaining a high degree of salinity necessary to make viable the navigation and the same existence of Venice.

Until 1405 the jurisdiction of Dolo was under Padua, and then passed definitely under the dominion of Venice.

A boat called the Burchiello transported Venetians noblemen directly to the Riviera sailing along the river Brenta, which was considered as a natural extension of the Grand Canal, to spend summer in their sumptuous villas.

The water level of the navigable river ways were controlled by a system of locks which are nowadays still visible in the center of Dolo, even if the evolution basin is now ground filled.

An old marble table is still shown nearby to show toll tariffs for the transit in the locks for each type of boats coming from or going to Padua.

Close to basin, there is a small shipyard, now dismissed, which was anciently used to repair and shelter the boats prior or after transiting the locks, while laboratories of caulk were housed all around.

The origin of the name of Dolo is quite uncertain and controverted. One hypothesis asserts the name comes from the contraction of Dandolo, surname of a noble Venetian family who gave a doge to the city of Venice and had properties here.

From old maps it appears that the town’s name was sometimes reported as “ Dollo “ which in archaic Italian language could also mean a tower which was probably demolished thereafter, unless it refers to church’s belfry which is the highest in the region of Veneto, just second to St. Mark’s belfry in Venice.

A picture of the ancient locks of Dolo by the Venetian painter Canaletto is visible in the National Gallery in London.

Hiking Hut to Hut | Italian Dolomites | Alta Via 1

Alta Via 1 is a famous through hike in the Dolomites in Italy. Typically done in 7 to 10 days, it is about 75 miles long with many mountain Rifugios (refuges) along the way. We hiked it all in 7 days, here are some of our tips!

We planned this trek just THREE weeks before we left! We got very lucky getting the Rifugios we wanted based on our timeline. It probably helped that we were doing this at the end of the season as some huts were already closed or closing. Everything worked out and we were blessed with PERFECT weather. It did not rain on us once! Can’t think of a better way to experience the Dolomites than to hike through it.

7 days
75 miles
23,000 ft elev gain
20 pounds of pasta and cheese ????

Takeaways:

????DO book your huts in advanced. Some got turned away. This gave us peace of mind knowing we had a secure place to sleep each night.

????DO bring cash as some places don’t accept cards.

????DO download a gpx of the trail/have a map. It is pretty well signed throughout but always best to have this handy.

????️DO learn some basic Italian & German. We were surprised at how many spoke German more so in the northern half of the trail.

????DO stay at Lago di Braies the night before the trek. It’s a little spendy but it was worth it since the trail started right there! Plus I mean we’ve all seen views of the lake, it’s beautiful.

????DONT bring a lot of snacks, we didn’t eat one protein bar. Unless you have a specific diet to follow, there are Rifugios sprinkled along the trail to stop at for food.

????DONT overpack, you can wash & rewear clothes.

????DONT forget to pack a sleeping bag liner, hut sandals & ear plugs

???? DONT rush. Take your time, soak it all in. Talk with other people at the huts and on the trail.

You Won't Believe This Is In Italy 4k

Before 2 years, I decided to make one of the biggest films i've ever made alone, and even during my studies in the university in Munich, exactly in mountains of Italy. This was the hardest challenge i've made in my life, since i decided to cover most of the mountains, known and unknown, which can take 2 years of going back and forth. That's not counting the hundreds of hours i've hiked/climbed to get to these views and with all my camera gear. Most of the time i had to camp there, just to be alone in the shot, or to get the sunrise.
I had many disappointments throughout the whole journey, sometimes i had to repeat the same climb 2 or 3 times in 4 days in a row, just to get the epic weather, or because it was raining, Monte Pelmo for example, which i climbed 3 times in a row in 3 days, and many others.
In this film i decided to choose a music, which can fit the breathtaking views i've filmed, and express my feelings very well.
In this film i want to deliver a message, what a one person can achieve alone, if he believes in himself and keep going after his goals..

12+ town DOLO. VENETION REGION. ITALY

Dolo is a town and comune in the province of Venice, Veneto, Italy. It is connected by the SP26 provincial road and is one of the towns of the Riviera del Brenta.

A lovely picture of the ancient locks of Dolo of the Venetian painter Canaletto is visible in a museum in London.

ABOUT THE HIKE
In October 2022 I hiked a part of the Alta Via 2 route in the Dolimites, Italy. My route started at Passo Rodella (1870m) where I headed into the Peitlerkofelgruppe. I camped in Val della Roa just past Forcella della Roa (2617m). The second day I headed into the Puezgruppe and camped near the peak of Sass da Ciampac (2667m). Day 3 I headed down to Passo Gardena (2121m) and up into Gruppo del Sella into the fog. I passed Refugio Franco Cavazza al Piscidù (2587m) and headed through the snow to Refugio Boè without seeing a single person. On day 4 the weather had cleared and I headed down to Passo Pordoi from where I drove to Gruppo della Marmolada only to find out my originally planned route was closed off due to recent avalanche activity last summer. Plan B: I drove to Malga Ciapela, and headed up to Pas de Ombreta (2702m) on the backside of the Marmolada Gruppo. I spent the night at Bivacco Marco Dal Bianco. Day 5: Trail E650
to the peak Ombreta Orientale (3011m), then via the AV2 route to Passo de le Cirèle (2683m) and Passo San Pelligrino. On day 6 I headed to Passo Valles from whereI made my way to Bivacco Giorgio Brunner on the AV2 route, via Forcella Margherita (2655m) and Passo delle Farangole (2814m). Day 7 I merged back with the AV2, passed Refugio di Rosetta and Refugio Pradidali then headed up into the massif of Pale di San Martino Parco Naturale. I tried to reach another bivacco only to find out it was only reachable by a climbers route. Instead I wild camped on the (cold) plateau. On day 8 I headed to Passo delle Lede and down to Val Canali. From there I drove to the Tre Cime (Dreizinnen) where I spent my final night above the Dreizinnenhütte on Sasso di Sesto (2539m).

Venice to Dolomites scenic road trip | 4K video with relaxing music

During our last Italy visit, we took a road trip from Venice to Dolomites. This was one of the best decisions we made to rent a car from Venice and drive as most of the places in the Dolomites are not easily reachable through public transport. We installed a GoPro10 on our dash to capture this beautiful road trip. Please enjoy and send your comments.
