The Ténéré Desert occupies an area of 400,000 km² and stretches between the Aïr Mountains to the west in the West African republic of Niger and the Tibesti Mountains in the territory of the state of Chad. The sand dunes in the south appear unbroken, while the north is a flat area covered with gravel and fine sand.
The climate is temperate arid. The multi-year average amount of precipitation is about 22 mm. Temperatures can go up to + 80 °C in the sun, the average being around +50 °C.
