INVERNESS, SCOTLAND (2023) | 9 Fun Things To Do In & Around Inverness & Loch Ness

Inverness is located on Scotland’s northeast coast and is considered the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. It’s a fairly small and compact city with an abundance of places to stay, eat, and shop. In this video, we highlight 9 fun things to do in & around Inverness:

9. Walk the waterfront & Ness Islands
One of the most peaceful things to do in Inverness is to stroll around its beautiful waterfront area to the Ness Islands. You can start your walk in the city center and follow both banks of the river in an easy 3 km or 2 mi loop.

8. Hit the pub at night
For a classic Highland pub experience, head to one of the many pubs on Church Street: Highlander, Hootananny, Gellions, and more!

7. Visit Inverness Cathedral
Another fun thing to do in Inverness is to visit Inverness Cathedral, located on the banks of the River Ness. Built in 1869, this historic building is one of the prettiest cathedrals in all of Scotland. You can also visit the inside for a small fee.

6. Admire Leakey’s bookshop
If you’re into reading books, then Leakey’s bookshop is a must-visit. This is Scotland’s largest second-hand bookshop and you can find anything here, from contemporary paperbacks to vintage prints, books, and maps.

5. Do a whisky tasting
Scotland is famous for its whisky and Scottish people are very proud of this sophisticated drink. In Inverness, you can find whiskey at any bar or pub. We did a whiskey tasting at the Malt Room, which offers over 200 different malt whiskies for tasting.

4. Shop souvenirs at the Victorian Market
Built in 1890, the covered Victorian Market houses a variety of shops selling unique handmade gifts, art, and crafts. There are also a number of cafés and dining experiences here. It’s a great place to shop Scottish souvenirs.

3. Visit the nearby Clava Cairns & Culloden Battlefield
This prehistoric site is a well-preserved Bronze Age cemetery complex that dates back to around 2000 BC. There are three different large cairns that can be visited and it’s entirely free. Nearby, you can also find the Culloden Battlefield & Viaduct, which played a significant role in Scottish History. It’s easy to combine both in one visit.

2. Spot Nessie at Loch Ness
Located only a short drive from Inverness, Loch Ness is home to the legendary monster called Nessie, which is said to live in the deep, murky waters. Fort Augustus is situated on the southern tip of Loch Ness, offering boat tours and spectacular views.

Places to see in ( Dornoch - UK )

Places to see in ( Dornoch - UK )

Dornoch is a town and seaside resort, and former Royal burgh in the Highlands of Scotland. It lies on the north shore of the Dornoch Firth, near to where it opens into the Moray Firth to the east. The town is within the Highland local government council area, and within the county of Sutherland.

The name 'Dornoch' is derived from the Gaelic for 'pebbly place', suggesting that the area contained pebbles the size of a fist (dorn) which could therefore be used as weapons. Dornoch has the thirteenth-century Dornoch Cathedral, the Old Town Jail, and the previous Bishop's Palace which is now the well-known hotel, Dornoch Castle and a notable golf course, the Royal Dornoch Golf Club, named the 5th best golf course outside the United States in 2005 by Golf Digest magazine.

It is also notable as the last place a witch was burnt in Scotland. Her name was Janet Horne; she was tried and condemned to death in 1727. There is a stone, the Witch's Stone, commemorating her death, inscribed with the year 1722. The golf course designer Donald Ross began his career as a greenkeeper on the Royal Dornoch links. The golf course is next to the award-winning blue flag beach.

Dornoch used to be connected to the main railway network at The Mound via a light railway. The railway was opened on 2 June 1902. Stations on the line were Dornoch, Embo, Skelbo, Cambusavie Halt and The Mound Junction. The stations were shut on 13 June 1960. Dornoch was a parliamentary burgh, combined with Dingwall, Kirkwall, Tain and Wick in the Northern Burghs constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1708 to 1801 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1918. Cromarty was added to the list in 1832.

Places to see in ( Beauly - UK )

Places to see in ( Beauly - UK )

Beauly is a town in the Kilmorack Parish of the Scottish County of Inverness, on the River Beauly, 10 miles west of Inverness by the Far North railway line. The town is now within the Highland council area. The land around Beauly is fertile - historically corn was grown extensively and more recently fruit has successfully been farmed. The town historically traded in coal, timber, lime, grain and fish.

Beauly is the site of the Beauly Priory, or the Priory Church of the Blessed Virgin and John the Baptist, founded in 1230 by John Byset of the Aird, for Valliscaulian monks. Following the Reformation, the buildings (except for the church, which is now a ruin) passed into the possession of Lord Lovat. Beauly is also the site of Lovat Castle, which once belonged to the Bissets, but was presented by James VI, to Hugh Fraser, 5th Lord Lovat and later demolished.

In 1994 Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat sold Beaufort castle to Ann Gloag (director of the Stagecoach Group) to pay off debts. In 2002, the Beauly railway station, built in 1862 and closed in 1960, was renovated and reopened. Beauly is in the Aird and Loch Ness Ward of the Highland Council.

The extensive ruins of the abbey church of Beauly Priory with funerary monuments (notably including those of the Mackenzie family) are managed by Historic Scotland. The town is known for the Beauly Shinty Club, its shinty team, who have won the Camanachd Cup three times and have been World Champions once. To the south-east of Beauly is the church of Kirkhill, Highland containing the vault of the Lovats as well as a number of septs of the Mackenzies, including Seaforth and Mackenzies of Gairloch.

3 miles (5 km) south of Beauly is Beaufort Castle, the chief seat of the Lovats, a modern mansion in the Scottish baronial style. It occupies the site of a fortress erected in the time of Alexander II, which was besieged in 1303 by Edward I. This was replaced by several castles in succession. One of these, Castle Dounie, was attacked and burned by the forces of Oliver Cromwell in 1650 and razed again by the royal army of Prince William, Duke of Cumberland in 1746 during the Jacobite Rising. Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat witnessed this latter conflagration of his castle from a neighbouring hill (he then fled and took refuge in the Highlands before his capture on Loch Morar).

Places to see in ( Drumnadrochit - UK )

Drumnadrochit is a village on the western shore of Loch Ness, a long, narrow lake in the Scottish Highlands that’s supposedly home to the Loch Ness Monster. The Nessieland center celebrates the legendary beast with family-friendly exhibits and loch cruises. Ruined Urquhart Castle overlooks the lake just east of the village center. To the west, wooded Glen Urquhart and Glen Affric offer horse-riding and hiking trails.

Drumnadrochit is a village in the Highland local government council area of Scotland, lying on the west shore of Loch Ness, at the foot of Glen Urquhart. There are several buses a day that pass through Drumnadrochit, notably the No 17 between Drum and Inverness bus station. Buses are less frequent outside the summer season, especially on a Sunday.

The village is popular with tourists and there are three larger hotels in (or close to) the village, two smaller inns (the Ben Leva Hotel and Fiddler's Rest) and a cosy hostel (the Loch Ness Backpackers Lodge). Attractions include Nessieland, a Nessie themed exhibition about the Loch Ness Monster, a Loch Ness Exhibition and nearby Urquhart Castle, one of the most visited sites managed by Historic Scotland.

Drumnadrochit hosts the Glenurquhart Highland Games at the end of August each year. A winter event, Drums and Rockets, has also taken place in recent years.[6] The community hosts a Bonfire Night fireworks display around the 5th of November. Agriculture and forestry are also major local employers. Drumnadrochit is also the home of the Loch Ness Brewery, a microbrewery launched in 2011 with considerable early success.

MAP OF SCOTLAND

hello, my friends. this is a map of Scotland. Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Covering the northern third of the island of Great Britain, mainland Scotland has a 96-mile border with England to the southeast and is otherwise surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, the North Sea to the northeast and east, and the Irish Sea to the south. It also contains more than 790 islands, principally in the archipelagos of the Hebrides and the Northern Isles. Most of the population, including the capital Edinburgh, is concentrated in the Central Belt—the plain between the Scottish Highlands and the Southern Uplands—in the Scottish Lowlands.

Scotland is divided into 32 administrative subdivisions or local authorities, known as council areas. Glasgow City is the largest council area in terms of population, with Highland being the largest in terms of area. Limited self-governing power, covering matters such as education, social services and roads and transportation, is devolved from the Scottish Government to each subdivision. thats all. please comment and subscribe for the best maps. goodbye.

NORTH COAST 500 VLOG ◆ Exploring Beauly, Tain, & Dornoch ◆ Scotland NC500 Road Trip [DAY 1]

[Filmed November 16, 2020]

This vlog kicks off our North Coast 500 Road Trip series!!!

Today we’re sharing our a first day on the road! I’m aiming to release a new video in this series every two weeks.

On the first day, we started our counter-clockwise drive along Scotland’s NC500 (mostly on the A9 in this one) in order to make our way to Dornoch for the evening.

And what a drive it was! Sun, rain, rainbows, views, crafts, ruins, and more!

We went through Beauly, Dingwall, Allness, and Tain while heading to our final destination of Dornoch.

As for lodging, we did not love the budget hotel we stayed at in Dornoch, so we did not include it in this video. BUT…our dinner at the Dornoch Castle Hotel was fantastic, so we’d bet that staying there would be a dream if it’s in your budget!

Hope you enjoy the video! Cheers, and happy travels!

4. Dingwall CCC. Avoch, Cromarty and the Black Isle.

50th Anniversary Tour Series- This is video 4 in the series. We've travelled 90 miles north from Bunree CAMC to Dingwall CCC, and this vlog includes a brief review of the site, as well as a short tour of the Black Isle with stops at Avoch and Cromarty, via Rosemarkie and Fortrose. A lovely site, within walking distance of the town, with very welcoming staff, excellent facilities and good pitches, set very conveniently for touring a beautiful and interesting area, It's a site that's new to us, is highly recommended and one that's very much a site to come back to.

John O'Groats (Travel Guide) Discover Scotland's First and Last Community #visitscotland #nc500

At the far north eastern tip of the British mainland you'll find John O'Groats, the community that embraces End to Enders setting off for distant Lands End or arriving exhausted after the challenge of a lifetime. Named after the Dutch ferryman Jan de Groot, this tiny settlement boasts stunning views to Orkney and Stroma as well as vertiginous seabird laden cliffs at Duncansby Head and the unforgettable Stacks of Duncansby.
In this film you will learn about the JoG Development Trust's initiatives from Andrew Mowat (proprietor of the Seaview Hotel) in addition to the history of the First and Last Shop as told by Walter Mowat. You will also meet Teresa and Rebecca Wymer, the proud owners of Stacks, the best Deli and Coffee House in the far north.
John O'Groats is also an essential stop on any NC500 journey as well as a great base to explore the unique county of Caithness. Relax and unwind to the rhythms of the Pentland Firth.

Camden Town Market London - Places to Visit in London

London is one of the top cities that tourists consider visiting at least once during their lifetime and thus the first question they might ask is what are the touristic attractions that they could visit. On top of the list one will find The Buckingham Palace ( The Tower Bridge, Big Ben ( and all these famous attractions which almost all the people know about.

The trick is in those different places which are considered famous but which are not always added to the most visited places and thus never come on top of the list. These places are numerous and all of them are exciting to visit for one reason or another, one of these places is the Camden Town Market with all the different variety of products that one could find there.

Being there since 1974, Camden Town Market is a diverse community market of creative sellers, street food traders and independent stores next to the Regent's Canal. Camden Town Market is open every day, offering more than 1,000 shops for people to shop and enjoy themselves at and not just that but the place also offers its visitors places to eat, drink and dance in this historic central London location.

This is a different kind of place for being historical and at the same time for having those different places that would even attract visitors by the way they display their products and not just for the things they sell in general.

Looking back into the history of the place, it would sound interesting to know that it all started with just 16 stalls. Camden Market started off as a small arts and crafts fair in the backyard of Dingwalls and at this time it was just temporary and used to open on Sundays only and not on a daily basis.

Camden Town Market became popular so fast and people didn't even expect such a thing at the beginning, and from being a small market that only opens on Sundays, this market became the biggest one in London and it now opens seven days a week.

There are mainly three different famous sections in this market: the trade, the music and the fashion, and every single one of them has its own history. The trade of Camden Market started back in 1974 when only 16 stalls had their places their, selling antiques, jewelry, arts and crafts, until it reached what we are exposed to today from the different small businesses that bring the multicultural diversity to the city.

When it comes to music, we should mention the Dingwalls which is a famous place in the Camden Town Market. Dingwalls Dance Hall was officially opened back in 1973 but its legacy still lives on until today as one of London's most famous live music venues. Dingwalls passed through different stages of becoming famous and it was all about opening that place with the longest bar in London and keeping the place open until 2 AM in the morning which was opposed to all the other bars that closed at 11 PM.

When it comes to fashion then we should say that the fashion at Camden Town Market was different because it was affected by music and not by catwalks and this appeared in the type of clothes that was displayed there.

It is an interesting thing to visit a place that could offer you lots of different things related to art, music and crafts and at the same time know that it dates back to a very long period of time and actually carries its history along, just like the same thing with Camden Town Market in London.

This is one example of the suggested places to visit in London that are not the same as the ordinary ones but there are a couple of places which tourists should already know about and which include the Tower of London for example ( Chinatown in London ( London Eye and its beautiful views over the city ( Sky Garden ( the different parks which one could excitedly visit in summer ( as well as the Royal Mews which is located in Buckingham Palace (

Walking across the streets of London is by itself an interesting thing because one would be checking the history of the city from the different old buildings and streets which come in addition to the historical destinations that people always choose and add to their list of places to visit in London.

Always dig deeper behind the places that you could visit in the city you are travelling to because sometimes you will find places that carry a good history behind but which are not given much attention and thus lots of tourists know nothing about them and never add them to their plan.

What do you think of Camden Town Market, ever been there before?
