The basic structure of the Bauhaus consists of a clear and carefully thought-out system of connecting wings, which correspond to the internal operating system of the school. The technical construction of the building... is demonstrated by the latest technological development of the time: a skeleton of reinforced concrete with brickwork, mushroom-shaped ceilings on the lower level, and roofs covered with asphalt tile that can be walked upon. The construction area consisted of 32,450 cubic meters and the total cost amounted to 902,500 marks. Such an economical achievement was possible only due to the assistance of the Bauhaus teachers and students, which at the same time, of course, could be viewed as an ideal means of education.

Dessau ist die Stadt, mit der das Bauhaus am stärksten verbunden ist. Gleich drei Stätten zählen zum UNESCO-Welterbe: Das Bauhausgebäude, die Meisterhäuser und die Laubenganghäuser. Vom Kornhaus an der Elbe über das Arbeitsamt bis zur Siedlung Törten können Sie an vielen Orten Bauhaus-Architektur entdecken.
Mehr als 300 Bauhausbauten gibt es in Dessau, wo die 1919 gegründete Kunsthochschule ab 1925 ihre Blütezeit erlebte. Der Bauhaus-Grundsatz „Form folgt Funktion“ ist hier ebenso sicht- und erlebbar wie das künstlerische Schaffen der Bauhausmeister wie Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer oder Wassily Kandinsky.

In this series on Europe's top gardens we first start out by looking at the eastern German area of Dessau along the Elbe River which encompasses seven castles and parks over a 145 sq.m. area. This particular region was the first on continental Europe that was based on English-garden designs. The landscaping was created between 1765 and 1800 by Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau and his advisor, architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorf. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Dessau ist der weitaus größere Stadtteil der 2007 durch Fusion entstandenen Stadt Dessau-Roßlau. Etwa sechs Siebtel der Bevölkerung der Doppelstadt leben im an der Mulde gelegenen Stadtteil Dessau, das bis zur Fusion kreisfreie Stadt und eines von drei Oberzentren in Sachsen-Anhalt war.

Danach zug das Bauhaus nach #Dessau um, auf Einladung von Prof. Hugo Junkers.
Die berühmten Architekten des Bauhauses haben in #Dessau ihre Spuren hinterlassen.
Dessau war eine kreisfreie Stadt im Land Sachsen-Anhalt; seit dem 1. Juli 2007 ist sie Teil der neuen kreisfreien Stadt Dessau-Roßlau.
Das bisherige #Dessau war, gemessen an der Zahl der Einwohner, nach Halle (Saale) und Magdeburg die drittgrößte Stadt Sachsen-Anhalts (bezogen auf die Fläche die zweitgrößte) sowie eines von drei Oberzentren des Landes. Die nächsten größeren Städte sind Halle (Saale), etwa 40 km südwestlich, #Leipzig, etwa 52 km südlich und Magdeburg, etwa 65 km nordwestlich. Historisch war Dessau Hauptstadt und Residenz des Fürsten-, späteren Herzogtums Anhalt-Dessau und Anhalt.
