Dendermonde is located at the mouth of the river Dender, where it flows into the Scheldt.
Places of interest in this town are:
The city hall and belfry that have also been designated a World Heritage Site since 1999.
The belfry houses a carillon and was formerly part of the Cloth Hall.
A Benedictine abbey right in the center of town.
The Dendermonde beguinage is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998

Dendermonde is een stad in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen. De stad ligt in de driehoek Gent-Brussel-Antwerpen, een van de meest verstedelijkte gebieden van het land. Het is de hoofdplaats van het arrondissement Dendermonde en ligt in de Denderstreek.

Dendermonde es una ciudad de la provincia de Flandes Oriental situada en el reconocido triángulo compuesto por Gante, Bruselas y Amberes. Su nombre está estrechamente relacionado con su ubicación, en particular por la desembocadura del río Dender en el Escalda. La ciudad es conocida desde hace años como la ciudad del Corcel Beiaard. La legendaria historia de este corcel y los cuatro niños Aymons tiene como origen una novela de caballería medieval, la cual en su momento se extendió por gran parte de Europa. En efecto, el caballo gigante junto con los cuatro hermanos sobre su lomo hace su desfile triunfal por la ciudad cada diez años. Con una altura de 5,80 metros su cabeza es una verdadera obra de arte, tallada en madera probablemente alrededor del año 1600. En 2005 el desfile fue reconocido por la UNESCO como Obra maestra del patrimonio oral e inmaterial de la humanidad.

Dendermonde I opendeurdag I oude Rijksgevangenis
De oude Rijksgevangenis van Dendermonde werd in 1863 geopend en is daarmee een van de oudere gevangenissen in België. De gevangenis in het centrum van de stad was tot de opening van de gevangenis in Beveren-Waas de enige in het voormalige gerechtelijk arrondissement Dendermonde. De gevangenis dient zowel als arresthuis als als strafhuis. Er was normaal plaats voor 168 gedetineerden, maar de gevangenis was dikwijls overbevolkt met regelmatig 250 geplaatste gevangenen.
Sinds enkele maanden is er een nieuwe gevangenis in gebruik en staat de oude leeg . Dit weekend op zaterdag en zondag zijn er opendeurdagen. Het is zeker een bezoekje waard, maar ik zou er wel niet graag hebben ingezeten, eerlijk gezegd. Gaan jullie mee een kijkje nemen binnenin?

Eng: Dendermonde's old State Prison was opened in 1863, making it one of the older prisons in Belgium. The prison in the city centre was the only one in the former judicial district of Dendermonde until the opening of the prison in Beveren-Waas. The prison served as both an arrest house and a penitentiary. There was normally room for 168 inmates, but the prison was often overcrowded with 250 inmates regularly placed there.
A new prison has been in use for several months now and the old one is empty . Saturday and Sunday were open days. It's definitely worth a visit, but I wouldn't have been in there, to be honest. Will you join us for a look inside?

Dendermonde I Feerie Florale
Van vandaag vrijdag 11 tot en met maandag 14 november vindt de tweede editie van Féerie Florale in het Stadhuis van Dendermonde plaats. De stad en de Koninklijke Unie van de Floristen van België slaan opnieuw de handen in elkaar.
Floral Christmas Dreams is in het Stadhuis te bewonderen van 10 tot 18 uur. Tickets koop je online, of bij de toeristische dienst van Dendermonde. Een ticket kost 10 euro. Kinderen onder de twaalf jaar mogen gratis een kijkje komen nemen.
Verschillende Belgische topfloristen dompelen het Stadhuis in kerstsfeer onder.
Op vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag kan je genieten van bloemendemo's .Ook organiseert Féerie Florale op die dagen modeshows met bloemen in samenwerking met verschillende lokale handelaars.
De Grote Markt zal ook een feestelijk jasje dragen, met onder andere een gezellige houten chalet.

Eng: From today Friday 11 to Monday 14 November, the second edition of Féerie Florale will take place at Dendermonde City Hall. The city and the Royal Union of Florists of Belgium are once again joining forces.
Floral Christmas Dreams can be admired at the Town Hall from 10am to 6pm. Tickets can be bought online, or at the tourist office of Dendermonde. A ticket costs 10 euros. Children under 12 can come and have a look for free.
Several top Belgian florists will immerse the Town Hall in Christmas atmosphere.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy flower demos.Also on those days Féerie Florale organises fashion shows with flowers in cooperation with various local traders.
The Grote Markt will also sport a festive look, including a cosy wooden chalet.

Dendermonde I begraafplaats
Binnen 14 dagen is het terug allerheiligen, dus gingen we de begraafplaats van Dendermonde eens bezoeken. 16-10-2023
De Begraafplaats van Dendermonde is een gemeentelijke begraafplaats in de Belgische stad Dendermonde. De begraafplaats ligt aan de Kerkhofweg, dicht bij de grens met Appels op bijna 2 km ten westen van het stadscentrum.
De stedelijke begraafplaats van Dendermonde werd tussen 1881 en 1883 aangelegd op een zanderige heuvel (Konijnenberg) aan de grens met Appels, aan de huidige Kerkhofweg.
In het midden van de begraafplaats staat een grote grafkapel, met eronder 15 grafkelders.
Naast gewone graven is er ook funerair erfgoed . Spijtig dat deze graven er slecht bijliggen.
Het grote Krijgskerkhof is gelegen ten zuidoosten van de burgerlijke begraafplaats. Het is de laatste rustplaats van Belgische en buitenlandse soldaten die tijdens de wereldoorlogen sneuvelden, en bevat ook herdenkingsstenen voor de onbekende soldaten. Ten zuiden en op het lager gelegen deel ten oosten bevinden zich de graven voor de Belgische oud-strijders. Het oorlogsmonument op het Krijgskerkhof van Dendermonde kreeg de vorm van een stoere en volledig bewapende Belgische soldaat, die uitkijkt over het kerkhof.

Dendermonde Cemetery is a municipal cemetery in the Belgian city of Dendermonde. The cemetery is located on Kerkhofweg, close to the border with Appels almost 2 km west of the city center.
Dendermonde's urban cemetery was established between 1881 and 1883 on a sandy hill (Konijnenberg) on the border with Appels, on today's Kerkhofweg.
At the center of the cemetery is a large burial chapel, with 15 crypts below.
Besides ordinary graves there is also funerary heritage . Too bad that these graves are in poor condition.
The large War Cemetery is located southeast of the civil cemetery. It is the final resting place of Belgian and foreign soldiers killed during the World Wars, and also contains memorial stones for the unknown soldiers. To the south and on the lower part to the east are the graves for the Belgian veterans. The war memorial at the Dendermonde War Cemetery took the form of a sturdy and fully armed Belgian soldier looking out over the cemetery.

Vandaag is het een warm dagje geweest en ook vanavond nog prachtig weertje. Dus besloten we om een avondwandelingetje te gaan maken in mijn geboortestad Dendermonde. Dendermonde is een stad in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen. De stad ligt in de driehoek Gent-Brussel-Antwerpen, een van de meest verstedelijkte gebieden van het land. Het is de hoofdplaats van het arrondissement Dendermonde en ligt in de Denderstreek.

Today has been a warm day and this evening the weather was still beautiful. So we decided to go for an evening walk in my hometown Dendermonde. Dendermonde is a city in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The city lies in the triangle Ghent-Brussels-Antwerp, one of the most urbanised areas of the country. It is the capital of the arrondissement Dendermonde and lies in the Denderstreek.

Explore the town of Dinant, Belgium
This summer we explored the town of Dinant Belgium – Saxophones, Leffe beer, and the Dinant citadel.
How to get there? It took 2 hrs and 20 minutes from the north of France to Dinant Belgium by car.
Upon arrival, you can see all the structure of the old buildings and some renovated along the river.
The first thing we did was, we took a cruise for sightseeing on the river Meuse. We paid €9 for the adult and €7 for kids 3years and up. Luckily my two sons are free! ????
It took 45 minutes for sightseeing. You will see all the rocks, called Rocher Bayard. There's a legend between the separation of the rock.
Along the river and the center of the city, there's an old Collégiale Notre Dame de Dinant that was built many centuries.
This was only a one day trip with my family and we didn't have a chance to stroll all over the town. But I'm glad I've been in the city where the inventor of saxophone lives before.

A day in Bruges: Highlights of Belgium's beautiful city
Bruges; highly recommended and overly joyed that i was able to visit the wonderful city.
anyone travelling around Europe, this city deserves to be seen and enjoyed. Get your best camera as you will want to take a lot of pictures due to its architecture, culture and romantic scenic views. For those with drones, you will not want to miss the views from above whilst in this city.
I travelled to Bruges by train from Brussels Zuid, during the train journey, i managed to capture the beautiful countryside of Belgium.
the local transport was straight forward to understand and buses arrived quiet frequently and on a timely manner.
whilst in the centre of Bruges, you will have a choice of local transport such as city tour buses and my favourite, the horse and carriage.
I used a DJI Mini 2 drone to capture some of the footages you see in the video
I will be returning back to this city some day and with a better drone to capture more of the beautiful aerial views.

Descubrimos Dendermonde en Bélgica
Muy cerca de Bruselas, al noroeste, se encuentra la localidad de Dendermonde. No sale en las rutas de turismo clásicas y sin embargo, tanto en historia como en población y cultura no tiene nada que envidiar a sus vecinas Brujas o Gante.
La casualidad de que una familia de esa localidad nos acogiese en couchsurfing, nos hizo descubrir, no solo esta modalidad de alojarte en casas privadas y compartir con ellos tu estancia (a la que por cierto nos hemos vuelto adictos), sino que nos enseñaron sitios ocultos a los forasteros, como sus clubs de Jazz, una casa de té en la que te sirven comidas caseras o encuentras la última moda hecha a mano.
No hay nada como que un local te guíe y te ayude a descubrir su ciudad.
También tuvimos la suerte de poder disfrutar del Katuit un gran espectáculo y festival en el que participa todo el pueblo en su gran Grote Markt, siendo reconocido por la UNESCO como fiesta de interés cultural.
También nos sorprendió todo el arte que ha ido acumulando la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Notre Dame que con sus esculturas, pintura y vidrieras, el viajero no debe dejar pasar de largo.
Un descubrimiento de un pueblo que sabe vivir la vida y al que no le hace falta figurar en ninguna guía turística.

Het begijnhof van Dendermonde bereiken kan je enkel via een steegje, en dan kom je terecht in een andere eeuw! Een zekere aanrader!
