Lier Zimmertower
It is not for nothing that Pallieterstad Lier was nicknamed 'Lierke Plezierke. In this city on the Nete, people like to party and have fun. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the annual fair in Lier. The Novemberfoor Lier 2022 took place from Thursday 3 November to Sunday 20 November. More than 60 attractions and food or drink stalls were spread over the Grote Markt, Zimmerplein and Gasthuisvest.
The Gothic belfry dating from 1369 is classified UNESCO World Heritage. The tower was the symbol of freedom and power. Nowadays it houses a small automatic carillon with 23 bells. no public access.
De Fortuin was probably built in the 17th century. It was used first as a grain store, then as a coal depot, lemonade factory, cabinetmaker’s workshop, town warehouse and restaurant.
The Prisoner’s Gate was built in 1375 as part of the town wall of the time. From the 16th century to 1930 the gate was used as a prison, hence the present name.
The Spui, the former lock house on the Nete, is the only remaining building of the second town wall (1508-1516).
ZIMMER TOWER AND MUSEUM
Visit the Zimmer Tower and the exhibition on time and space in the pavilion. You will discover the life's work of Louis Zimmer, who was passionate about clocks and astronomy.
Following a fascinating introduction to the big bang, you can admire the ingenious workings of the Wonder Clock, the Jubilee Clock and the Astronomical Studio. You can actually see the mechanism working inside the Zimmer Tower.
The former Cornelius tower from the 13th century, part of the old city walls, was transformed into the Zimmer Tower in 1930. Zimmer donated the Jubilee Clock to the town of Lier in honour of Belgium's 100th anniversary.
The pavilion was added in 1960, especially for the Wonder Clock. In this pavilion you will also find the exhibition on time and space, with a projection of the big bang.
Louis Zimmer (1888-1970) was a self-taught artist with the patience of an angel. He was an amateur astronomer who rose to the pinnacle of watchmaking.
For tourist information, you can visit the information office in the historic town hall on the Grand Place. Since 2017, Visit Lier has been based on the 1st floor of the former council chamber.
The tourist information office of Visit Lier has various shelves and leaflet dispensers. There are also 3 digital modules where visitors can search information themselves using a touch screen:

• about the surrounding area
• maps (walking and cycling routes)
There is also a video screen with a bench in the entrance hall and a shop with publications and souvenirs. As a visitor, you can ask at the counter for more information and explanations. We are happy to assist you in Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish and Italian.
The information office is accessible for wheelchair users There is a separate entrance at the rear with direct access to the lift. As such, visitors can quickly get from the ground floor to the first floor (information office). Visit Lier also has its own wheelchair available.
In Lier you can go for walking, cycling, boat trips and visiting the markets and shops.

Having previously been to Belgium a few times before, I was already looking forward to visiting here again. So, when I got an opportunity to explore Ghent for a Ghent City Tour, there was no way I was gonna let that slide!
For a city with population of a 0.25M, the place offers a good blend between cosmopolitan and medieval vibe. Ghent is also thriving as many young people choose to live here instead of the countryside or the crowded city centers of say Brussels, Antwerp and so on.
Getting to Ghent is easy from many places in Belgium and the Netherlands. You can reach here by a car, a bus or even take a train.
Once you’ve arrived, almost immediately you’ll notice that the place has a fairly compact city center and it’s easily navigable on foot. Imposing architectures, bustling streets with tourists and the views – all of which confirm that the place still breathes the atmosphere of a thriving late-medieval city state.
If you want stunning, panoramic, views of Ghent, definitely visit the Belfry! It sits right in the middle of the city and with it’s 91 meter tall tower, you’ll have a bird’s eye view of the city.
Graslei and Korenlei are the two streets on either side of the canal in old town Ghent. This is the heart of the city!
Boat trips start at this point and taking a canal tour is a great way to get some history of Ghent with a unique view of the city.
A ticket for 8 Euros per adult, they are totally worth. It’s nice and relaxing just to sail around and listen to all the information while soaking in the beautiful architecture of the city.
Unlike most of the rest of Europe, Ghent’s medieval architecture remains remarkably well preserved and restored. Cars are banned in the city center thus making it Belgium’s largest carfree area! You will notice this during the Ghent City Tour
The boat tour passes through few bridges and many arches, some of which have a low elevation. The boats don’t move that fast, but I can see that it’s easily possible to hurt yourself here if you’re not careful.
Working on ship and then taking a boat tour during vacation, must not be interesting, right? Wrong! Personally I feel that sightseeing in certain cities is incomplete if you don’t take the boat tour. You could be waking the streets all day long and covered everything that’s there to see, but it’s a different perspective that you get when taking one of these boat tours.
Also, you find out incredible amount of information during these tours including the Ghent City Tour ! Like for example, did you know that during the Dark Ages, Ghent was the 2nd largest city in Europe? I didn’t! The largest was Paris by the way.
Also right in the heart of Ghent is Gravensteen Castle.
If you’ve only got a few meals in Ghent, you want to make sure every single one is amazing! Of course, Belgian chocolates are world famous, but so are the Belgian noses and the various waffle combinations - don’t forget to try as many as you can!
Public transport here is affordable and usually on time. Also, you can save upto 50% of the cost by buying your ticket from the machine over buying from the driver of the tram/bus.
Overall, I’d say Ghent will need more than just one day of your time and trust me, the experience is totally worth it! With some of the richest medivial history in Europe, I think the city is quite under rated for the experience it offers. 2-3 days of stay here should ideally be the sweet spot.

The N223 is a provincial road in the Dutch province of South Holland in the Westland region. The road connects the city of Delft with Hoek van Holland.
In 2018 I already posted a video of the N223 on YouTube. Then the last part of the route went through the built-up area of Hoek van Holland. In this new video, the last part of the route goes via the Hoeksebaan, which was completed in 2020.

The ranking presented in the video follows the study published by the prestigious site Insider Monkey ????, which analyzed thousands of comments on Reddit ????. The result is a list of the 30 rudest cities in the world ????️, from which we extracted the top 10 in Europe ????. Here is the description the site provides for this study: We went through numerous Reddit threads pertaining to locations where tourists felt unwelcome ????. We used search terms like 'Rudest cities in the world,' 'rude cities in the world,' and 'cities that are rudest to tourists' to find relevant threads ????. To ensure the authenticity and relevance of our research ????, we focused on cities that were most frequently mentioned by Redditors across various threads and discussions ????. This approach led to a list of 30 rudest cities in the world.
We compared this study with the one conducted in 2020 by the famous CEOWorld magazine ???? on the 50 rudest cities in Europe. The ranking is based on a survey of 178,500 European adults who were asked to name the top five rudest cities from a list of 50 of the continent's largest urban centers ????️. We decided to feature primarily the Insider Monkey ranking in the video simply because it is the most recent ????.

HOLLAND: Volendam village, 'De Dijk' & harbour
Volendam is a popular tourist attraction/village in the Netherlands. The main tourist street, featured in the video, is De Dijk (The Dike) lined with restaurants, bars and souvenir shops.
Volendam is located on the Markermeer, a lake of 700 km2 (270 sq mi).
The fishing village is well known for its old fishing boats and the traditional clothing still worn by some residents.
Volendam is home to many rock bands and musicians. During the 1960s, the local group The Cats was a very popular group in the Netherlands and abroad. Another band from Volendam was BZN, which became popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1995 BZN performed a duet with the ten year old Jan Smit, who quickly became a celebrity in his own right. You can see posters and merchandise of him across town.
Other Dutch singers from Volendam are Nicks & Simon, 3JS, Piet Veerman, Anny Schilder, Jan Keizer, Carola Smit, Martine Bond, Maribelle en Tol & Tol.
