Explore Bergamo through this hyperlapse and timelapse short film, a personal project to celebrate my home town in Italy.
40km northeast of Milan, is divided into an old walled core known as Citta' Alta (Upper Town) and the modern city below (Citta' Bassa, Lower Town).
The upper town in encircled by massive Venetian defensive systems that are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is also nicknamed The City of the Thousand, because of the large support it gave to The Expedition of the Thousand, a corps of volunteers led by Giuseppe Garibaldi and the main event in the Italian unification.

L'autostrada A4 (detta anche Serenissima) è un'autostrada italiana che attraversa da ovest a est l'intera pianura padana, partendo da Torino, passando per Milano, Venezia e terminando a Sistiana (TS), da cui prosegue verso Trieste, con soluzione di continuità, con la classificazione RA 13. È la terza autostrada italiana per lunghezza dopo la A1 e la A14.
Dall'allacciamento del quadrivio di Fiorenza (in corrispondenza dello svincolo per viale Certosa), dove vi è l'innesto con l'Autostrada A8, ha inizio il tratto gestito dalla società Autostrade per l'Italia S.p.A ; proseguendo in direzione Brescia l'A4 attraversa le zone fortemente urbanizzate di Cormano, Cinisello Balsamo, Sesto San Giovanni e Brugherio. Nei pressi del comune di Monza, dove è situata la barriera autostradale di Milano est, si collega con la tangenziale nord di Milano. All'altezza del casello di Agrate Brianza l'A4 si allaccia con la tangenziale est di Milano e poco dopo si collega con la nuova tangenziale est esterna di Milano che lì prende avvio (Agrate). La gestione da parte di Autostrade per l'Italia termina tra il casello di Brescia Ovest e quello di Brescia Centro (quest'ultimo però appartiene per intero alla gestione di Autovie Padane S.p.A. che è concessionaria del tratto Brescia-Piacenza della A21).
Il tratto compreso tra le barriere autostradali di Milano Ghisolfa e Milano est (Monza) viene denominato tratto urbano A4[18] e tutti gli svincoli intermedi sono liberi, cioè privi di casello.
Il percorso Milano - Brescia, lungo circa 90 km, è completamente pianeggiante e rettilineo, ad eccezione del curvone in concomitanza con il casello autostradale di Bergamo. In pratica, il tratto è una specie di triangolo con il casello di Bergamo al vertice superiore.
La tratta Bergamo-Milano è stata ampliata a quattro corsie più corsia d'emergenza, aperte il 22 luglio 2007 in direzione Brescia e il 23 settembre 2007 in direzione Milano. In concomitanza coi lavori di ampliamento il casello di Trezzo sull'Adda è stato ingrandito e spostato di circa due km verso Milano.
Il tratto Bergamo-Brescia è a 3 corsie, più corsia di emergenza.
Sul tratto Milano-Brescia è in funzione il sistema di rilevamento della velocità media con dispositivo Tutor.

Bergamo, Italy - Why It's Surrounded by Walls
We explore Bergamo, Italy, a town near Milan that is surrounded by massive walls. Why were these walls built? In the 1500s, Bergamo was captured by Milan’s arch rival, the Republic of Venice. As these two Italian powers battled each other throughout the Middle Ages, they would capture land, then they would have to protect it. Venice didn’t want to loose Bergamo to Milan, so they built huge walls around the entire city. Venice became a powerful sea power and captured cities all over the region, not just in Italy. The defenses they built were so important to world history that they are now on UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites! Learn how these Medieval fighters would propel attacks on their walls and keep invaders out. Walled cities and castles were hard to capture and played and important part of the politics and power all over the area.

Padua is the another city where I found myself by coincidence but as always I had my GoPro with me so I was able to record some of of the places in this beautiful city. I have to admit that I wasn't able to record all of the interesting places due to the fact that my time I have spent in Padua was very limited but I hope you will enjoy the video. The video includes walking from the Padova train station to the city centre and back. Recorded in September 2023.
