We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

DALKEY - The Hometown of Celebrities in Ireland (4K)

Hi guys! Welcome back into my channel. Today, I am going to share with you my trip to Dalkey.

Dalkey is one of the most affluent suburbs of Dublin, situated about 17 km southeast of the city. The best way to get there is to take the dart because the dart runs along the coast and you will be able to enjoy some picturesque views.

Dalkey was founded as a Viking settlement and became an active port during the Middle Ages. In modern times Dalkey has turned into a tourist spot that attracts a lot of visitors. It is also home to the rich and famous – like Bono from U2, the actor Matt Damon, Enya, Van Morisson, Chris the Burgh and many other celebrities.

Dalkey, Dublin - Day Trip from Dublin, Ireland 2020 - Petite Paradise Studio Travel Guide in 4K

For my last day in Dublin which is also New Year day 2020, I took a day trip to Dalkey, a quaint harbor town about an hour train away from Dublin.

Once you are in Dalkey, don't forget to visit their many mini castles along Castle Street, the Church of Assumption, St. Patrick's Church and Bullock Harbor.

The town was sooooooo cute that it was hard for me to say goodbye. The pretty little houses and majestic mansions along the coastline were the highlight of the trip.

FYI: take DART train, instead of the bus, will surely make the trip better because the train runs along the coastline which provide a more interesting view of the ocean along the ride.

???? NOTE: ????
About seven minutes in, I mention that Ireland is ...a very young country (part of tip 8). Please note that this is referencing the modern Republic of Ireland. It gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1919. This ended almost 750 years of direct interference by the English. Ireland and its culture is of course much, much older!

???? REMINDERS: ????
Three things to keep in mind for all our videos:

1 - See a place you like? Comment with the specific timestamp (by typing for example 2:23 or 9:07) and I'll try to get back to you with the coordinates of that exact spot as best I can. Ireland is too beautiful not to share it with as many people as possible, so if you see a nice shot in any of my videos, let me know by commenting the timestamp!

2 - All our videos are mainly focused on tourists who want to get the most out of their Ireland visit (although please enjoy even if you are not in this category!). As such, they are 'beginner level', as there is so much to share about Irish history, nature and culture. This is a field that has a lot of enthusiasts in it. If you are one of those, you probably know way more about the subject than is shared in the video. Keep in mind that the intent of all the videos is to be at an introductory level so that visitors can get the most out of their trip and start to get familiar with what they will see when they visit Ireland. Be kind in your words and keep it civil in the comments. I'd love for you to share even more information in the comments so that everyone can keep on learning about this great island!

3 - Take responsibility for your own travels. These videos are meant to share my own love as an immigrant to Ireland, and as an inspiration for future visitors. They are not intended to tell you what to do or how to do it. Travelling has an inherent danger to it. Ireland is not a 'curated' playground. It is a real country, with its own beauty and shortcomings. The roads are small and windy. There are seldom fences at cliffs. The mountains are slippery, and the bogs soggy. Prepare yourself accordingly when you visit. Be smart, don't take unnecessary risks, and take responsibility for your own travels. Through being well-prepared and making smart decisions, I hope you will have a great stay and that our videos have played a small role in your enjoyment.

Travel Ireland Videos Dalkey County Dublin Ireland

This video takes a look around Dalkey Village County Dublin Ireland
Dalkey (/ˈdɔːki/ DAW-kee; Irish: Deilginis, meaning 'thorn island') is an affluent suburb[2] of Dublin, and a seaside resort southeast of the city, and the town of Dún Laoghaire, in the historic County Dublin, Ireland. It was founded as a Viking settlement and became an active port during the Middle Ages. According to chronicler John Clyn (c.1286–c.1349), it was one of the ports through which the plague entered Ireland in the mid-14th century. In modern times, Dalkey has become a seaside suburb that attracts some tourist visitors.

One of Dublin's wealthiest districts,[3][4][5] it has been home to writers and celebrities[6] including George Bernard Shaw,[citation needed] Jane Emily Herbert, Maeve Binchy, Robert Fisk,[7] Hugh Leonard, Bono, the Edge, Van Morrison and Enya. Dalkey lies within the jurisdiction of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council.
Dalkey lies by the coast, between Dún Laoghaire (and Sandycove and Glasthule) and Killiney. Off the coast are Dalkey Island (up to the 18th century, also St. Begnet's Island), Malden Rock, Clare Rock, Lamb Island, and, further offshore, The Muglins, which have their own lighthouse. The town is on fairly level land, but the district rises to Dalkey Hill (140 m), the northern peak of a ridge which continues to Killiney Hill to the southwest; the two hills are now contained within the public park known as Killiney Hill Park.[9] Along the coast are the natural harbour at Bullock, a couple of small inlets, Sorrento Point just east of the town proper, and the northern park of Killiney Bay.

Lead mines used to exist on the coast opposite Dalkey island. They are no longer in operation.
Dalkey's main street, Castle Street, has a 10th Century church and two 14th Century Norman castles, one of which, Goat's Castle, houses the local Heritage Centre (the other, Archbold's Castle, is private property). There are several scenic and historical walks and tours. Dalkey Hill offers views over Dublin city, Dublin Bay, and towards the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains.

Deilg Inis Living History Theatre Company run live theatre performances every half-hour at Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre.

Boats are available to hire at Bulloch Harbour on Harbour Road and Yacht trips around Dalkey Island can be taken from nearby Dún Laoghaire Harbour. Dalkey Quarry is a rock climbing and abseiling venue. Killiney Hill is also used as a launch site for para-gliders.[citation needed]

Paraglider at Killiney Hill, looking over Dalkey Island
Dalkey has a number of pubs and restaurants.
Dalkey is the original hometown of two Irish writers: novelists Maeve Binchy and playwright Hugh Leonard. It is also the setting for Flann O'Brien's novel The Dalkey Archive. Several well-known Irish and international music figures — including U2 members Bono and The Edge, Enya, Chris de Burgh and Van Morrison — have also bought residences in the area. Film director Neil Jordan lives in the town.

Pat Kenny, former host of RTÉ's flagship chat show The Late Late Show, is a resident, as is the current host, Ryan Tubridy.

Singer Lisa Stansfield is a former resident.

George Bernard Shaw has a close association with the area. He lived in Torca Cottage on Dalkey Hill from 1866 to 1874.

Victoria Cross recipient Major William Leet was born in Dalkey.

Matt Damon, his wife and their three youngest daughters resided in Dalkey during the COVID-19 pandemic. Damon had arrived in Dalkey to shoot scenes in The Last Duel, a medieval drama directed by Ridley Scott, just before production on the film was suspended in mid-March.[17]

Ireland ???????? l County Dublin l Dalkey & Killiney Hill Walk l Emerald Isle PH

A seaside town south of the city, Dalkey’s rich history is front and centre, with a 10th century church and two Norman castles right on the main street, and there's lots of things to do! From the town, it’s a short walk to the harbour, where you can take a boat trip to Dalkey Island, or if you’re feeling adventurous, go abseiling at Killiney Hill. When you settle in for food and drinks, keep an eye out for famous locals. Bono, The Edge, Enya and Van Morrison all live nearby (and Matt Damon even temporarily took up residence here!).
Illustrated Map of Dalkey
Perfect for a day trip from nearby local areas, Dalkey is filled with culture, adventure and a wealth of places to eat and drink. Only 15km from Dublin, it's the perfect place to escape the city and indulge in a little of what the coast has to offer. Explore more and check out these suggestions for spending time in Dalkey where a warm welcome awaits.

Places to visit

With rowing, kayaking, fishing and island ferries, picturesque Coliemore Harbour is a hub of activity year-round, and offers fantastic views across the bay. If you fancy an adventure, a five-minute boat ride will take you to Dalkey Island, home to a Martello Tower, atmospheric church ruins, plus roaming rabbits and goats.

Culture

History comes to life quite literally at Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre, as costumed actors act out live theatre performances. If literature is your thing, check out the Writer’s Gallery for everything from Beckett to Binchy to Bono. For something a little different, step back in time and enjoy traditional Irish storytelling with tea and cakes in Biddy’s Cottage.

Food and drink

You won’t go hungry during your visit, as there are plenty of food and drink options available in this charming village. Follow the waft of hot scones and freshly-brewed coffee to the Tramyard Café, and take a seat in this outdoor, yet indoor café. Corner Note serves up delicious, locally-sourced produce. On cold days, warm up by the fire, while on summer evenings, we recommend you sit outside and soak up the sun.

Nearby Select Stores is an award-winning wholefood shop, juice bar and café. If you fancy something a bit heartier though, head along to Finnegan’s. A favourite spot of both Bono and the late, great Maeve Binchy (regulars still proudly point out her favourite table), it’s a tasty lunch spot with an extensive wine menu. You’ll find craft beers and a selection of uncomplicated food done well at The Magpie Inn.

————————————

Killiney Hill and Dalkey Hill form part of Killiney Hill Park, a small public park overlooking both Dalkey and Killiney villages.
The Park was dedicated to public use in 1887 by Prince Albert Victor of Wales, in memory of Queen Victoria's Jubilee, and called Victoria Hill. Crowned by an obelisk, the hill is 153 metres high.

Killiney Hill is a popular destination for walkers and hikers availing of the spectacular views, over the surrounding areas: Dublin to the Northwest, the Irish Sea and the mountains of Wales (on a clear day) to the East and Southeast, and Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains to the South.

The Park has a playground, a pyramid structure (perfect for selfies) and a tea room.
The pyramid on Killiney Hill is very close to the obelisk, but a little hidden behind gorse hedges. Built in 1852 by Robert Warren, the locals refer to the pyramid as the “Wishing Stone”. According to legend, a wish comes true when one circles all levels of the pyramid, climbs the uppermost pinnacle and makes a wish while looking towards St. Begnet’s Oratory on Dalkey Island.

The Hill is a 16-minute walk from Killiney DART station.
