Cooch Behar or Koch Bihar is a city and a municipality in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the headquarters of the Cooch Behar district.

Once a princely State, Cooch Behar is known for its fine climate, natural freshness, and beauty. During the 11th and 12th Century AD, the Pala-Senas ruled Cooch Behar. The sculptures and coins of the Sultanate and the Mughal Periods, and the temples and mosques of the medieval and late medieval periods reveal that the ancient kingdom of Kamrup played a role in the development of the present Cooch Behar. The main attraction in Cooch Behar is the palace of the Koch king Maharaja Nripendra Narayan. Designed to resemble the classical European style of the Italian Renaissance, this magnificent palace was built by the Maharaja in 1887.
Cooch Behar is also famous for large water bodies. Among them the Rasik Bill is famous for a huge population of migratory birds that assemble here every year. The Forest Department has built accommodation at this site to meet the demands of a growing number of tourists interested in ornithology.

Cooch Behar Palace, also called the Victor Jubilee Palace, is a landmark in Cooch Behar city, West Bengal. It was modeled after the Buckingham Palace in London in 1887, during the reign of Maharaja Nripendra Narayan of Koch dynasty.
The Cooch Behar Palace, noted for its elegance and grandeur, is a property of The Mantri's. It is a brick-built double-story structure in the classical Western style covering an area of 51,309 square feet (4,766.8 m2). The whole structure is 395 feet (120 m) long and 296 feet (90 m) wide and is on rests 4 feet 9 inches (1.45 m) above the ground. The Palace is fronted on the ground and first floors by a series of arcaded verandahs with their piers arranged alternately in single and double rows.
At the southern and northern ends, the Palace projects slightly and in the centre is a projected porch providing an entrance to the Durbar Hall. The Hall has an elegantly shaped metal dome which is topped by a cylindrical louver type ventilator. This is 124 feet (38 m) high from the ground and is in the style of the Renaissance architecture. The intros of the dome is carved in stepped patterns and Corinthian columns support the base of the cupola. This adds variegated colours and designs to the entire surface. There are various halls in the palace and rooms that include the Dressing Room, Bed Room, Drawing Room, Dining Hall, Billiard hall, Library, Toshakhana, Ladies Gallery and Vestibules. The articles and precious objects that these rooms and halls used to contain are now lost.
The original palace was 3 storied, but was subsequently destroyed by the 1897 Assam earthquake.
The palace shows the acceptance of European idealism of the cooch kings and the fact that they had embraced European culture without denouncing their Indian heritage.

It is the maternal home of Maharani Gayatri Devi.
During the British Raj, Cooch Behar was the seat of the princely state of Koch Bihar, ruled by the Koch dynasty of Assam. After 20 August 1949, Cooch Behar District was transformed from a princely state to its present status, with the city of Cooch Behar as its headquarters.

Cooch Behar Rajbari was built in 1887 by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan who was then king of Koch Dynasty. It was modelled after the Buckingham Palace in London. Cooch Behar Palace is just 2 minutes walk from Cooch Behar bus stand. Ticket price to enter the palace is only Rs 20 per head for the Indians and for the people of SAARC countries. Ticket price for foreigners is ₹250 per head.

Cooch Behar Rajbari is one of the best tourist place in India, recently I visited Cooch Behar Palace and fallen for the Cooch Behar Rajbari History , other Cooch Behar Tourist Places are also explored in this video.
Coochbehar is well known for its palaces and royal buildings, among them Royal Palace of the Koch Kings called Rajbari . It is also called the VICTOR JUBLEE PALACE. This palace was designed on the model of Buckingham Palace of London. It was built by the Famous Koch King Maharaja Nripendra Narayan in 1887 AD.
The nearest Railway station is New Cooch Behar station which is 15-20 mins from this beautiful palace and the closest airport is Cooch Behar Airport also 25 mins from here. Entry Fees Rs. 25 Person and timing is from 11am to 5 PM.
Cooch Behar Rajbari Palace is undoubtedly the best tourist place in the town. The splendid architecture is one of the major reasons for the growing tourism in the town.
There is major significance of the place in our Indian History, The palace shows the acceptance of European idealism of the Koch kings and the fact that they had embraced European culture without denouncing their Indian heritage. According to the List of Monuments of National Importance in West Bengal the Cooch Behar Palace is an ASI listed monument.
Originally this palace was three storied high but during the great earthquake of 1897, the third floor collapsed. The building of Rajbari covers an area of 4700 Sq. mtrs. The length of the palace is 120 mtrs North to South and the width East to west 90 mtrs. At the present time Coochbehar Palace has been turned into a museum where travellers can learn about the regal family that once ruled the land of Coochbehar.

The distance of Rasikbill fro0m coochbehar town is approx 42 km, via NH 31 & It will take 1 hour from the cooch behar main town.
