Scale this 5,596-metre giant! (SIKE! You can actually take a cable car up 4506 metres!)

02:51 - Blue Moon Valley
As its name suggests, it's an extremely blue river meandering through a lush valley of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain! Definitely a must-visit!

02:58 - Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (4506-metre peak)
Get a bird's eye view of Lijiang from on top the most southerly snowcapped mountain in the Northern Hemisphere!

Our hike to the Yakfields around Shangri-La and our Tibetan Homestay we arranged with: Khampa Caravan.
Loved it! The hike is definitely lonely and unique, though the village was not as spectaculair as we'd hoped.

And for those who wonder: Till early 2000's this town was called Zongdian, but the government thought it would attrack more tourists if they would rename the place Shangri-La. After the novel of James Hilton. Where Shangri-La is described as a mystical paradise on earth....
In 2014 the old city got fire and hundreds of houses were destroyed. Though rebuilding goes fast!

Small and compact, will stable shots. Love this mini tripod. Especially when traveling alone it's a great help.

Best things to do in SHANGRI-LA YUNNAN, the most remote city in Yunnan | China Travel Guide

Here are the best things to do in Shangri-la Yunnan: Visit the most famous Tibetan temple, the Songzanlin Monastery and explore the old village of Dukezong. These places are a great introduction to the Tibetan culture and you can easily do these within a day.

Shangri-La Yunnan is named after a mythical city in James Hilton’s book, the Lost Horizon. Previously known as Zhongdian, the city was re-named as Shangri-La in December 2001. The name Shangri-La means Paradise.

This is the most remote city in Yunnan as compared to the rest of the cities in Yunnan, such as Kunming and Lijiang. There is public transportation between these cities and buses travel regularly between Shangri-La and Tiger Leaping Gorge, Lijiang or Dali. However, bus services need to be confirmed prior to travelling as services can be disrupted due to weather or road conditions. Alternatively, you may choose to fly here. There is currently no rail connection between Lijiang and Shangri-La, however, a new rail line is being built.

If you choose to go by the mountain roads from Tiger Leaping Gorge, you could stop by at Bai Shui Tai (white water terrace). From there, you could catch the 2pm bus to Shangri-La. However, if you miss the bus like we did, then be prepared to hire a private car for at least 400 rmb.

Situated on the High Tibetan plateau, the winter is cold. It's also good to acclimatize to the high elevation prior to coming. A good suggestion is to stay in Lijiang or Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Pingyao 平遥 The Eternal City, China

Pingyao dates back 2,700 years, and is one of the best preserved ancient cities in the world.

During the Qing Dynasty this city was a financial center of China. It is still inhabited by 50,000 residents and is renowned for its well-preserved ancient city wall, and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

Pingyao still retains its city layout from the Ming and Qing dynasties, conforming to a typical Ba gua pattern. More than 300 sites in or near the city have ancient ruins. Preserved Ming- and Qing-style residences number close to 4,000. The streets and storefronts still largely retain their historical appearance.

The city walls of Pingyao were constructed in the 3rd year of the Hongwu Emperor (1370). The walls have six barbican gates. The north and south sides have one gate each. The east and west sides have two gates each.

This pattern is similar to that of a turtle (the head, tail and four legs), earning Pingyao the moniker Turtle City. The walls measure about 12 metres high, with a perimeter of 6,000 metres. A 4-metre wide, 4-metre deep moat can be found just outside the walls. Aside from the four structured towers at the four corners, there are also 72 watchtowers and more than 3,000 battlements.

Kunming, Yunnan is an often overlooked city in Southern China. Backpackers will stop here on their way to Laos, maybe taking some time to visit the many natural attractions outside of the city. But few really get to know Kunming. Here are 9 interesting facts about the city.

Exploring Yunnan - Beautiful Destinations - Yunnan, China

A short edit I made when I went to Yunnan, a province in China, with friends and family. This was the first time I used adobe premiere along with adobe after effects because I really wanted to experiment with dynamic transitions (or vensitions). We went to many beautiful places, including LiJiang, DaLi, ErHai, ShiLin (The Stone Forest), cools caves, etc. Along the way, The Yunnan Travel group dragged us to many stores, some of which were kind of annoying, but overall it was a really cool learning experience of Yunnan's culture and geographical landmarks and landscapes. Like/Subscribe I hope you enjoy!
