Places to see in ( Pau - France )
Pau is a city in southwestern France, set along the Pyrenees mountains’ northern edge approximately 85 km from the Spanish border. A walk along central Pau’s Boulevard des Pyrénées offers countryside views and mountain panoramas on clear days. The boulevard leads up to the castle of Château de Pau, birthplace of King Henry IV of France and Navarre. It now displays tapestries, period furnishings and artworks.
The first thing you notice about Pau is the location. In the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of the new huge region of Nouvelle Aquitaine, the city is surrounded by beautiful mountains. From here it’s a short drive through the spectacular National Pyrenees Park to the border with Spain and just 125 km (77 miles) or around a 90-minute drive from the top seaside resort of Biarritz on the Atlantic Coast. Pau became the capital of the kingdom on Navarre in 1512. Its royal status was secured through Henry of Bourbon. Born in Pau Castle, he became King of France in 1589.
Three centuries later Pau was discovered by a Scottish doctor, Alexander Taylor, who announced it as the place for cures of all kinds of ailments due to the great oceanic climate, warm and wet in the winter, and just delightfully warm in the summer. The English followed the somewhat dubious doctor’s recommendation and in the 19th century, flocked here, bringing with them all the English past times: horse racing, croquet, cricket and fox-hunting. The first 18-hole golf course in Europe was built here in 1860, and it was also the first to admit women to its range. The building of the railways brought other nations to this city beside the mountains while the French found Pau just as attractive. Pau became the most fashionable resort in western Europe and remained so up until 1914.
The central old part of Pau is pedestrianized, so it’s a pleasant, relaxed city to walk around. The Boulevard de Pyrénées makes the best starting point with views to the country on one side and the majestic mountains on the other. Only a small part remains of the original keep built in 1370. The building was thoroughly taken over by Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III in the 19th century and well renovated. There are only French guided tours, but even if you don’t understand much, it’s worth going in for the splendid interiors and series of Gobelin tapestries hung on the walls to impress past guests and keep the place warm. And you can wander the magnificent gardens for free.
The thoroughly ordinary soldier Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte was born here. You can see the story of how he fought in Napoleon’s armies, became Maréchal and ended up as King Charles XI of Sweden in the rooms here. Alot to see in Pau such as :

The history of Châteauroux airport has always been closely linked to that of aviation and the aeronautical industry. In 1936, Marcel Bloch created a first aeronautical construction factory which was taken over by the SNCASO a few months later in application of the nationalization laws. It is in this factory that the Bloch MB.152 fighters will be produced.
In 1951, the US Air Force chose Châteauroux in agreement with the French government, to install its most important air base because of its favorable climatology and its central European position. The airport then becomes CHAD (Châteauroux Air Depot), CHAS (Châteauroux Air Station). The Châteauroux-Déols air base will accommodate up to eight thousand Americans during this period.
On January 25, 1994, Châteauroux-Déols airport was baptized “Marcel Dassault airport”.
In 1995, the airport was taken over by the General Council of Indre, which created a joint syndicate for this purpose, bringing together the urban community of Castelroussine, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Indre and the municipality of Quinces. The 2,500 m track is increased to 3,500 m.
In March 2007, the State transferred ownership and management of the airport to the Center Regional Council, which intends to develop its industrial activities in the field of air freight, in addition to ADP, and that of aeronautical maintenance.
In March 2011, Air Partner chartered the Antonov Airlines An-225 to deliver relief supplies to victims of the earthquake and tsunami that rocked Japan. In its giant hold, it carried goods that had become essential, such as large quantities of drinking water, masks and anti-radioactivity protective clothing, as well as medicines. Also on board, specialized equipment for rescue teams (dosimeters, radiometers, contamination monitors), pumps, compressors, generators.

France Télécom, devenu par la suite Orange, avait également affrété un Antonov An-124 de Volga-Dnepr Airlines. Là aussi, 80 tonnes de camions nacelles, de batteries et d'autres matériels avait été envoyées vers Fort-de-France, en Martinique.
En mars 2011, Air Partner avait affrété l'An-225 d'Antonov Airlines pour acheminer du matériel de secours aux victimes du tremblement de terre et du tsunami qui ont ébranlé le Japon. Dans sa soute géante, il emportait des biens devenus indispensables tels que de l’eau potable en grande quantité, des masques et des tenues de protection anti-radioactivité ainsi que des médicaments. À son bord également, du matériel spécialisé destiné aux équipes de secours (dosimètres, radiomètres, contaminomètres), des pompes, des compresseurs, des groupes électrogènes.
En septembre 2017, à la suite du passage de l'ouragan Irma dans les Îles de Saint-Martin et Saint-Barthélemy, des groupes électrogènes d'Enedis provenant des bases logistiques d'Orléans et Bordeaux ainsi que des motopompes ont été affrétés par EDF pour être envoyés à Pointe-à-Pitre, en Guadeloupe. Un An-124 d'Antonov Airlines et un de Volga-Dnepr Airlines ont été affrétés ainsi qu'un Iliouchine Il-76 de Ruby Star.

C'est ici le cas avec British Airways qui a stocké sa flotte d'Airbus 380 sur l'aéroport Marcel Dassault de Châteauroux Déols. C'est triste a voir,d'autant plus que les gros porteurs semblent condamnés a ne plus revoler. (C'est le cas d'Air France qui a arrêté ses 10 A 380 de façon définitive dont les appareils sont partis pour Tarbes et Téruel).

Applicants wishing to lodge visa applications are requested to enter the visa application center between: 09:00 – 12:00 hrs
Legalization: 14:00 – 15:00 hrs
Passport /Document delivery: 15:00 – 16:00 hrs
1. Passport:
Original Passport with validity of minimum six months after the intended date of departure and minimum two blank pages for visa stamp.
a) Copy of previous passports and visas issued.
b) Attach all your old passports (if any).
c) If any visa request was refused, details of original letter issued by the authorities of that country would be preferred.
d) Have at least 3 blank pages.
2. Visa Application Form:
Visa Application Form duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
3. Photo Specification:
Two recent passport size photographs with white background and without border (Size: 3.5 cm x 5.0 cm). Please do not staple the photographs to the Application Form.
Please note, photograph should not be more than 3 months old and should not be used in any of the previous visas.
4. Covering-Letter:
A covering letter stating the purpose of visit and itinerary.
5. Invitation Letter/Tour plan:
Letter of Invitation from a host/company in the visiting country in case of business visit. For tourist visa, a detailed itinerary of the intended trip or tour voucher from an authorized travel agency is applicable.
6. Travel medical visa insurance:
confirmation of minimum 30,000 € coverage within the entire Schengen area. The policy must clearly specify the period of validity and must cover the entire duration of the trip including the date of arrival and departure.
7. Forwarding-Letter:
a)Forwarding Letter / NOC from the applicant’s company authority on the company’s letterhead stating applicant’s name, designation, passport number, purpose and duration of visit.
b) Visa request letter from the educational institute or student card/evidence of school enrollment (if student).
8. Proof of Occupation:
a) Company registration certificate (original notarized English translated and photocopy of the original) if the applicant is a first-time traveler or a proprietor.
b) Office ID card copy & Visiting cards.
9. Proof of civil status:
Marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, if applicable
10. Financials:
a) Personal Bank and company’s bank statement for last six months mentioning the Bank’s name, Bank’s Telephone Number clearly.
b) Salary slip for the last six months. (If Any)
11. Ticket Itinerary & Hotel Reservation:
Proof of Accommodation for the whole duration of the intended stay. Round trip air tickets with travel dates (with return flights for courses less than 91 days)
