A video neighbourhood guide to the Adelaide suburb of Croydon

In this episode of the cool neighbourhood video blog series Life In My Hood, local mum Chloë Ball shows us around her part of the suburb of Croydon.

10 Poorest Places in The UK

What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

Lawn Hill Holiday travel video guide, Queensland, Australia

On our Drive through North Queensland we decided to visit Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) national park.

Lawn Hill is one of Queenslands most scenic national park. There is lots to see and do with walking tracks to suit all levels.

The national park is location 340 km north-west of Mount Isa (via Riversleigh) and 220 km south-west of Burketown (via Gregory Downs). The entire distance from Burketown and approximately 170 kilometres of road from Mount Isa is unsealed and can be rough at times, with patches of bulldust and corrugation when it is dry. The roads are unsuitable for conventional vehicles and caravans and can be impassable for extended periods after rain. Allow at least 4 to 5 hours for the journey from Mount Isa and remember to always check road conditions before leaving.

When we arrived we checked into Adels Grove Camping Ground, an eco-sensitive tourist park on Lawn Hill Creek. Adels grove is located 10 kilometres downstream from Lawn Hill National Park and is set among a plantation of exotic trees. This park is a great place to stay, relax and unwind when you are checking out this spectacular Queensland holiday destination.

Normanton and Karumba (Far North Queensland)

We had a wonderful time in Normanton and Karumba. Some folks told us that there was nothing to do in Normanton, we had a busy couple of days, we went to the Burke and Wills Camp 119, we visited the railway museum and Gulflander train (very historical) and enjoyed the township.

Off to Karumba - dirt or sealed roads!!! we were told both - well we are delighted to let you know it is sealed all the way. The only road with any changes is from Croydon to Undarra (single lane roads and single lane bridges - every so often).

Karumba is on the Normanton River - near where the rivers joins the Gulf of Carpentaria (ocean), we wandered and chilled out here, no swimming for the crocodiles are very active here.

Did a Barramundi Feeding Tour and that was interesting and fun.

Take care until next time.

Dandenong Ranges Victoria, Australia ???????? | Travel Vlog

#Dandenongranges #Travelmelbourne #Besttouristspotinmelbourne

Hello Beautiful Fellas,

Sharing This very late upload travel vlog around Dandenong Ranges, Victoria, Australia

Travel Itineraries:
????Burkes Lookout- The best views of Melbourne from the Dandenong Ranges, day or night this is a spectacular walk.
New Year’s Eve at Burkes Lookout has become a very popular place to be. It gets really crowded, though the atmosphere is usually always great.

Walk Notes
* Total Distance: Just under 1 km
* Walking time: 20 minutes return
* Easy grade walk.
* Parking available on Osprey Road (off Ridge Road). This is a very short road.
* Public Transport: Bus service along Ridge Road, Mt Dandenong from Croydon or Ferntree Gully. Ask the driver to let you off at Osprey Road/Kyeema Memorial.
* No toilets. Nearest public toilets: Olinda or Sky High, Mt Dandenong
* Pram-Friendly though can be a bit bumpy. A suitable pram for rougher tracks is ideal.
* Depending on the wheelchair type, it may be possible to use this track.

????Dandenong Ranges National Park
- A short 1.5 hour drive from the city. Dandenong Ranges National Park is part of an Aboriginal cultural landscape. Parks Victoria respects the deep and continuing connection that Traditional Owners have to these lands and waters, and we recognise their ongoing role in caring for Country.
- The forested slopes of the Dandenong Ranges are a place of tranquil forest walks, quaint hilltop towns and charismatic animals such as lyrebirds and wallabies. Conquer the famous 1000 Steps, discover Olinda Falls and enjoy commanding views over Melbourne and the Yarra Valley.
- The Dandenong Ranges is a rainforest getaway on Melbourne's doorstep. A short drive or train ride from the city you will find steep volcanic hills covered in stands of the world's tallest flowering tree, the Mountain Ash. Living among the greenery are wallabies, lyrebirds, wombats and the Powerful Owl so please ensure you leave your dogs at home to avoid disturbing the local wildlife.

????10,000 Steps- Take an energetic walk up the 1000 Steps from Ferntree Gully Picnic Area and learn about its poignant association with Australia's Second World War veterans and the Kokoda Track Campaign.

A video guide to the Adelaide neighbourhood of Parkside, by local resident

Trying to decide where to stay in Adelaide? Join Parkside local Rob Staines for a video guide of his neighbourhood, as he shares his tips on where to get the best coffee in Parkside, the best cheap eats in the neighbourhood and the best thing to do in Parkside.

Parkside is a highly sought-after suburb with a local village feel, just south of Adelaide’s CBD.

COFFEE IN MY HOOD
A Mother’s Milk, 105 Unley Road

A mother's milk, with panela sugar, definitely the place to go for coffee. Panela sugar turns a caffeine lift into an experience.”

GROCERIES IN MY HOOD
The Free Concept, 93 Unley Road

The owner and regulars are truly sincere and charming. A café as well as a one-stop-shop for all gluten free-eaters.

HANGING IN MY HOOD
Adelaide Studios, 226 Fullerton Road

“The South Australian Film Corporation’s buildings are a landmark in Parkside. Another venerable institution is the Earl of Leicester - a backstreet gem.

GIFTS IN MY HOOD
The Mexican Shop, 69 Unley Rd

“All manner of ceramic ornamental Mexican-inspired creations.
Some of the sculptures are not for the faint hearted”

EATING IN MY HOOD
Namaste Nepalese, 41 George St

They have so many awards, they can barely fit them all on their walls. Deliciously original, the tandoori barramundi is a must.”
