[EN] We visit Salon-de-Provence: a very pleasant town in Provence located about 35 km west of Aix-en-Provence and 40 km east of Arles, relatively close to the National Park of Camargue. The town has a nice old center with dominating Château de l'Emperi castle. Famous Nostradamus worked and lived here. Salon-de-Provence also appeared in the well-known comedy Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis - the main character, Philippe Abrams, lived here at the beginning.

[FR] Nous visitons Salon-de-Provence: une ville très agréable en Provence située à environ 35 km à l'ouest d'Aix-en-Provence et à 40 km à l'est d'Arles, relativement proche du parc national de Camargue. La ville a un joli vieux centre avec le château de l'Emperi. Nostradamus a travaillé et a vécu ici. Salon-de-Provence est également apparu dans la célèbre comédie Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis - le personnage principal, Philippe Abrams, a vécu ici au début.

Miasto posiada ładne centrum z górującym nad nim zamkiem de l'Emperi. Mieszkał tu i pracował słynny Nostradamus. Salon-de-Provence pojawił się także w znanej komedii Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (Jeszcze dalej niż Północ) - mieszkał tam na początku główny bohater, naczelnik poczty - Philippe Abrams.

We continue our gentle climb following the Agly and Maury rivers. Vineyards cover the valley floor and lower slopes of the Pyrenees on the Southern side and the lower slopes of the Massif Central on the Northern side. The neatly laid out vines are replaced by tall conifers as we get closer to Lapradelle.
In 1878 “La Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi et du Canal latéral à la Garonne” began building a railway line in the Eastern Pyrénées to connect Carcassonne with Perpignan. The route used by today’s “Le Train Rouge” was complete in 1904. As with many lines built in lightly populated areas, it fell victim to improved road transport, eventually falling into disuse in the late 1980’s. In 1992 three railway enthusiasts formed an association to resurrect a train service along the route, by 2001 they had succeeded raising sufficient funds, volunteers and rolling stock to run a train service. TPCF - Train du Pays Cathare et du Fenouillèdes (Fenouillèdes is the Catalan name for this region). The friendly staff and volunteers would love to welcome you on one of their trains, but if you can't make it please sit back and enjoy a virtual ride through the beautiful French/Catalonian Countryside.

Prachtige treinreis langs rivieren en kastelen in Frankrijk ???????????? - Rail Away ????
In deze aflevering reizen we stroomafwaarts langs de Loire van Orléans via Nantes naar Le Croisic aan de Atlantische kust. De trein leent zich uitstekend voor het verkennen van de Loire-vallei. Tussen Blois en Nantes (waar de Loire uitmondt in de Atlantische Oceaan) rijdt de trein grotendeels parallel aan de rivier. De vallei van de Loire is bezaaid met treinstations. Bekijk de hele aflevering op 1 januari op NPO2:
Dit zijn allemaal tussenstops die het mogelijk maken de vele chateaus langs de glinsterende Loire, de dorpjes, bloeiende tuinen en wijngaarden te bezoeken. In Nantes stappen we over voor het laatste deel van de route naar de zee. Een treinrit door zoutbekkens, waar zout wordt gewonnen uit zeewater. Het eindpunt Le Croisic is een pittoresk stadje aan de kust.
Nederlanders houden van fietsen en ze gaan graag naar Frankrijk. In deze Loire-aflevering komen beide elementen én de trein samen. Langs een groot
deel van de rivier de Loire loopt ook een fietsroute. Wie even geen zin heeft om te fietsen, neemt de fiets mee in de trein. De regionale treinen hebben een speciale voorziening voor fietsen. Zo kunnen fietsers haltes overslaan of makkelijk terugreizen naar het vertrekpunt. Een uitzending langs chateaus, wijngaarden en natuurlijk de Loire.

Salon de Provence visite par Berny et Zina
Salon-de-Provence (occitan : Selon de Provença) est une commune française située dans le département des Bouches-du-Rhône, en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Période romaine
L'histoire de Salon de Provence est ancienne. La voie Aurélienne romaine passe non loin de la ville10. Au niveau du développement économique, on retrouve les vestiges d'une industrie traditionnelle de savonnerie, de production rurale et viticole notamment que des activités liées au mouton,et à l'huile d'olive.
Moyen Âge
Salon figure en tant que Villa Salone dans les dénombrements des biens de Saint Sauveur de Marseille en 871, du temps de Carloman et de Rostang d'Arles (tempore Carolomani regis et Rostagni archiepiscopi Arelatensis), puis est donnée en investiture par Conrad III à l'archevêque d'Arles en 1144. En 1293, sous l'égide de Rostang de Cabre, furent publiés les statuts municipaux de la ville de Salon16.
Charles IX passe dans la ville lors de son tour de France royal (1564-1566), accompagné de la Cour et des Grands du royaume : son frère le duc d’Anjou, Catherine de Médicis sa mère, Henri de Navarre, les cardinaux de Bourbon et de Lorraine17.
La ville est aussi célèbre pour Nostradamus, qui y a vécu et y est mort en 1566.
Adam de Craponne, son contemporain, fut un Ingénieur français qui a permis entre autres l'irrigation de la Crau par la construction du canal qui porte son nom.
