Newstead Abbey - Newstead Village, Nottingham, UK

A beautiful historic house set in a glorious landscape of gardens and parkland within the heart of Nottinghamshire. Founded as a monastic house in the late 12th century, Newstead was home to the poet Lord Byron between 1808 - 1814. Inside the Abbey, there is much to explore including Victorian room settings and the poet's private apartments.

The gardens and parkland at Newstead Abbey cover more than 300 acres with paths that meander past lakes, ponds and waterfalls. The formal gardens are the perfect place to relax and offer something in all seasons from the bright colors of the rhododendrons in late spring to the Japanese maples in autumn.

(Couldn't explore the Mansion, it was closed due to Covid-19.)

map of Nottingham England

Nottingham (/ˈnɒtɪŋəm/ (audio speaker iconlisten) NOT-ing-əm, locally /ˈnɒtnʊm/) is a city and unitary authority area in Nottinghamshire, East Midlands, England. It is 128 miles (206 km) north of London, 44 miles (71 km) south of Sheffield, 45 miles (72 km) northeast of Birmingham. Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making, bicycle, and tobacco industries. Nottingham is also the county town of Nottinghamshire and the settlement was granted its city charter in 1897, as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham is a tourist destination; in 2018, the city received the second-highest number of overnight visitors in the Midlands and the highest number in the East Midlands.

In 2020, Nottingham had an estimated population of 330,000. The wider conurbation, which includes many of the city's suburbs, has a population of 768,638. It is the largest urban area in the East Midlands and the second-largest in the Midlands. Its Functional Urban Area, the largest in the East Midlands, has a population of 919,484. The population of the Nottingham/Derby metropolitan area is estimated to be 1,610,000.[4] The metropolitan economy of Nottingham is the seventh-largest in the United Kingdom with a GDP of $50.9 billion (2014).[11] Aside from Birmingham, it is the only city in the Midlands to be ranked as a sufficiency-level world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.

Nottingham is a major sporting centre and, in October 2015, was named 'Home of English Sport'. The National Ice Centre, Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre, and Trent Bridge international cricket ground are all based in or around the city, which is also the home of two professional football teams: Notts County, formerly the world's oldest professional league club, and Nottingham Forest, famously two-time winners of the UEFA European Cup under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor in 1979 and 1980. The city has professional rugby, ice hockey, and cricket teams, also hosting the Aegon Nottingham Open, an international tennis tournament on the ATP and WTA tours. This accolade came just over a year after Nottingham was named as the UK's first City of Football.

Nottingham's public transport system won awards prior to 2015, including the largest publicly owned bus network in England. The city is served by Nottingham railway station and the modern Nottingham Express Transit tram system. In December 2015, Nottingham was named a 'City of Literature' by UNESCO, joining Dublin, Edinburgh, Melbourne, and Prague as one of only a handful in the world. The title reflects Nottingham's literary heritage, with Lord Byron, D. H. Lawrence, and Alan Sillitoe having links to the city, as well as a contemporary literary community, a publishing industry, and a poetry scene. The city is served by three universities—the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, and the Nottingham campus of the University of Law—hosting the highest concentration of higher education providers in the East Midlands. Ecology
Within the city, native wildlife includes red fox, peregrine falcon and common kingfisher.[35] Notable nature reserves around the city include Attenborough Nature Reserve SSSI, Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve, Holme Pit SSSI, Fairham Brook Local Wildlife Site and Wollaton Park. Due to its position as a central city with strong transport links, Nottingham has become home to invasive animal and plant species including rose-ringed parakeet, Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam. #nottinghammap #nottingham

Rochester visit Kent England. One of the South Easts historic towns. Castle and town centre

Always wanted to come here after seeing a programme on it. The town centre was such a bustling place and the major buildings spectacular. If you’re a fan of history or a fan of Charles Dickens there is so much to see. There is a station in the centre of town, it’s just we came in on a different line but the walk over the River Medway was superb. Ps I hardly ever see spitfires so for me that was a thrill but it added to the modern history that this area was right on the front line In WW2. Paul

The best wildlife park for public !❤️|Highfield Park Nottingham| UK VLOG |

Hey Guys
This video is about the Highfields park the second oldest park in Nottingham where you can enjoy, it has a lot of wildlife in it but it's very hard to find. Children and adults love this park. Squirrels wander everywhere. You'll understand when you fully watch the video. This was the best place I ever visited and it's a part of University Of Nottingham. It was difficult to find a water snake when I was shooting, maybe in the future I could stumble upon one. Stay tuned for my future videos you'll love it.

Elvaston Castle Feat. The Nott'm Lass and Debz - Our First Collaboration!

We went for a stroll around the lovely grounds of Elvaston Castle and bumped into fellow vloggers, The Nott'm Lass and Debz. It was so good to do a collab with these two, they are such lovely people too. Really hope to do another video with them at some point in the future. The castle itself it not open to the public but the grounds are still worth a visit and there is some great scenery including a lake and woodland.

NCT Purple Line 88 Full Route Visual- City, Parliament Street to Top Valley

Here's a full route visual of the Purple Line 88, which runs from City, Parliament Street to Top Valley, Ridgeway via Mansfield Road, Forest Fields, Clarendon College, Carrington, Sherwood, Sherwood Manor, Five Ways, City Hospital (East Entrance), Bestwood (Chippenham Road) and Bestwood Park.

This route is much shorter outbound, than the inbound journey. This is due to the fact the terminus is at the first stop on a relatively large loop. You can watch the inbound journey (unfortunately on a less-dry day) here:

The 88 runs every 15 minutes, normally using ADL Enviro 200s from the Trent Bridge garage.

Review - Lainston House Hotel Hampshire

After a busy few days exploring some of Hampshire’s family friendly attractions such as Marwell Zoo and Peppa Pig World, we chose to stay at the 5* Lainston House hotel which was the perfect place for us to recharge our batteries.

Located in the beautiful Hampshire countryside, it was the ideal location to explore nearby Winchester and was less than a 20 minute drive away from Paulton’s Park, home of Peppa Pig World and the New Forest.

For families looking for a luxury hotel close to Peppa Pig World, there is no better option than Lainston House.
