Copan Honduras Travel Guide | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids
Join us for a tour of Copan, the Copan Ruins and Macaw Mountain!
Because of the ruins, in fact, Copán has always existed as a tourism base, so the town exudes an inviting, familial atmosphere.
The centerpiece of a visit, of course, is Las Copán Ruinas, the remains of the ancient Mayan city and temple grounds. The extant structures you see today are built on top of earlier, older temples and ceremonial centers.
The Copán ruins aren’t as massive or extensive as other sites, but none touches Copán for the amount of sculpture and carved stone. And there’s a great museum with a reconstructed temple and some of the thousands upon thousands of artifacts recovered from the ruins.
You can see macaws all around or you can take a tour at Macaw Mountain and learn all about these beautiful birds.
Here you can wander through acres of natural forest and manicured gardens, along walkways that connect to soaring aviaries filled with parrots, parakeets, tropical owls, and more. There’s a great little lunch grill, and the opportunity for some hands-on interaction with gigantic macaws.

I arrived in San Pedro Sula, Honduras for my first international trip since the pandemic to visit my best friend, Ana! My first Honduras vlog, I packed my bags, flew into San Pedro Sula, and prepared for the weekend! For my second vlog, we arrived to a coffee bodega to tour the tasting process, visited a coffee farm, and made a stop at Luna Jaguar Hot Springs thermal baths. Finally, time for Copan Ruins, my first Latino wedding, and Cataratas Pulhapanzak before I make my way back to New Orleans, Louisiana!

The ancient Maya city of Copan (Copan Ruinas), Honduras, is one of the most spectacular cities of the ancient Maya civilization, known for its magnificent stone temples, altars, hieroglyphs, and stelae. Copán was occupied for more than two thousand years, but it reached its peak between 400 and 800 AD. The city was abandoned in the early 10th century. The ruins of Copan are inscribed on the UNESCO list of protected World Heritage Sites.

I wanted to see Honduras and when I look on the option, Copan was the best chose on my way. I was so so so surprised when I arrived. The Copan in Honduras is really amazing. Of course, the pyramids Copan ruins are nice and beutiful, but the best about Copan is the birds Macaws. You can see it in the Copan ruins, but the best place is the Macaw Mountain Bird Park. It is more then amazing place, it is like to be in heven. This is Honduras and its Copan. And do not forget, there is more places than this. The hot springs Jaguar Moon Spa Resort are so good for nice time. And yes, I tried the horse ride for good price and for few hours, but my ass did not liked the ride to much. But still, I can say that the Copan in Honduras is the place what you have to put on your list!
Chtěl jsem navštívit Honduras a při pohledu na možnosti při mé cestě, byl Copan jasná volba. Říkal jsem si, že má krásné pyramidy a že něco dalšího vymyslím. Tak se taky stalo. Hned první den jsem vyrazil na pyramidy Copan ruins, což byl krásný zážitek. Pyramidy jsou v lesích a mají opravdu své kouzlo. To hlavní kouzlo z mého pohledu bylo, když jsem zde uviděl Ara papoušky. Proto nebylo těžké rozhodnutí, zda chci navštívit ráj papoušků Ara v parku Macaw Mountain Bird Park. Tenhle zážitek stál za každou utracenou korunu, respektive limerii. Osobně si myslím, že na tento moment nikdy nezapomenu. Tím možnosti v Copanu rozhodně nekončí. Další zážitkem byl horký pramen Jaguar Moon Spa Resort. Dalé jsem nevynechal projížďku na koni. I když na ní můj zadek pár dní vzpomínal spíše, jako na nepříjemný zážitek. Projížďka trvala totiž skoro 3 hodiny. Každopádně celkově musím Honduras a jeho město Copan hodnotit, jako jeden z velmi intenzivních zážitků. Určitě je to místo kam bych se mohl klidně vrátit a zůstat zde ještě několik dní. Honduras se mi totiž naboural do srdce.

A Tourist's Guide to Copan, Honduras
I set off from San Salvador at 4.30am, driving to the Guatemalan border, stopping off at the El Salvadorian town of Santa Ana before crossing over. Then after two hours of driving across the pot-holed roads of Guatemala, we finally reach the border with Honduras.
Then we get to see the Copan ruins, as well as visiting the nearby town.
A long day, but well worth it.
