In deze aflevering maken we rechtsomkeert op het Canal des Ardennes, na alarmerende verhalen van Okaay, onze vriendelijke Zwitsers. We gaan weer de Maas en het bijbehorende Canal de la Meuse op. Nog meer sluisjes en slootjes die we moeten nemen. Het landschap blijft onveranderlijk fraai. Hoe zuidelijker je komt, hoe meer je te maken krijgt met de beruchte waterflora die een bedreiging vormt voor je schroef en je wierpotten. Alhoewel het tot nu toe nog wel meevalt. We stoppen in Stenay, een mooi, maar naar onze smaak te rustig stadje.

Hommage du 8 mai 1945 : une cérémonie traditionnelle et un devoir de mémoire à #vescovato
Il a été célébré ce mardi, le 73e anniversaire de la victoire de 1945. la cérémonie mis en place par M. José Desideri a vu le maire de Vescovato déposer une gerbe de fleurs au monument aux morts avant de saluer les anciens combattants rassemblés ainsi que les autorités civiles et militaires. La médaille militaire a été remise à M. Joseph Giansily.

The Hospices de Beaune or Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune is a former charitable almshouse in Beaune, France. It was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, chancellor of Burgundy, as a hospital for the poor. The original hospital building, the Hôtel-Dieu, one of the finest examples of fifteenth-century Burgundian architecture, is now a museum. Services for patients are now provided in modern hospital buildings.
An important charity wine auction is held in November each year (formerly in the great hall of the Hôtel-Dieu).

Just over 100 years ago, the First World War was raging in North Eastern France along the line known as the Western Front. Lorraine, Meuse and Verdun found themselves located on the front line. This video, highlighting the role of America in the conflict and the memorials dedicated to US Soldiers in France, is an introduction to the WWI series « Travels with Darley » by Darley Newman for PBS channel. It presents the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery, the largest WW1 American Cemetery in Europe.

How's your weekend, everyone?
Gave a little visit to this bright yellow shop called Mado à Paris on Rue de Rivoli, very close to the Tuileries Gardens. Then took a little walk to the park, enjoyed the shop's homemade lemonade. Such a refreshing drink on a sunny day out. Just before the sun sets, we sat by the Seine river and had our madeleines there. It's only 15 euros for 10 different flavors but putting it in the box makes it 26 euros.

We're taking you inside the kitchen of famous Atlanta French bakery Douceur de France for a virtual cooking demo with French Chef Luc Beaudet to learn how to make French madeleines. This recipe is super easy, and a perfect activity for both adults and kids!

PLEASE NOTE you need a Madeleine pan for this recipe, to get that signature “shell” shape (can be found on Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table). Chef Beaudet recommends a resting period of 24 HOURS for the batter.
INGREDIENTS FOR 60 MADELEINES (batter keeps very well in the freezer)
8 eggs
400 grams (14oz or 1 3/4 cup) sugar
Zest of 3 lemons
85 grams (4 tbsp) honey
400 grams (14oz or 1 3/4 cup) flour
20 grams (4.5 tsp) baking powder
250 grams (9oz or 2 sticks) butter
130 grams (1/2 cup) milk
