Traveling To The HOTTEST Place In Canada: Osoyoos, British Columbia // Nat and Max
We went to the HOTTEST place and the ONLY desert in Canada. Osoyoos is a small town located in the Okanagan Valley, south of Kelowna the biggest city in the region. There’s plenty of fun things to do in Osoyoos, whether you're feeling adventurous or prefer to relax and enjoy Canada’s driest climate. Book a tour of the Osoyoos Desert Centre:
To kickstart our Okanagan Series, we started our adventure by driving 5 hours from Vancouver British Columbia to Osoyoos situated just above the USA border. Osoyoos is home to Canada's only desert environment with some of the warmest annual temperatures in Canada with the lowest rainfall, the highest temperatures, and also the warmest freshwater lake. Having this warm sunny climate, the area around Osoyoos is one of the most productive fruit-growing orchards making the South Okanagan the fruit basket of Canada. Osoyoos is also absolutely scenic, from the rugged dry hills and surrounding mountains all the way to the rolling vineyards and sandy lakeshore. It was our first time in Okanagan and we didn’t even know that we have places like this in British Columbia!
The first place to go to in Osoyoos was the Spotted Lake, containing one of the world’s highest concentrations of various minerals with therapeutic waters to alleviate aches and pains. During summer the water evaporates and crystallizes, making the spots visible revealing colorful mineral deposits. The lake is on private land and is therefore not accessible by the public, but we got a good view of it from the highway.
One of the must visit places in Osoyoos is the Osoyoos Desert Centre which is a 67 acre facility that preserves the desert ecology. Good thing it was too hot to be outside for the wild desert animals to come say hi to us too. And we think we were the only ones crazy enough to walk around Canada’s desert during British Columbia’s record breaking heatwave! Mind you it was 40+ degrees Celsius every single day throughout that week. Just goes to show that nothing can stop us if exploring new places is on the table. Osoyoos is very dry and arguably the hottest place in Canada!

We start our South Okanagan adventure in Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada. Our first stop is Gyro beach on Osoyoos Lake. This is said to be Canada's warmest lake in Canada's warmest town. We then transport to the USA/ Canada border. From there we take you to a typical fruit-stand on the area, full of peaches, apples and berries. Our hottest stop was at the Desert Centre. Did you know that this region is Canada's only desert? We walked the boardwalk and learned all about desert ecology. Then it was wine time. We chose a small family run winery. Blue Sky was a fun stop with great wine and fantastic personal service. Our last stop is a Spotted Lake. This is a mineral lake and is part of the aboriginal heritage for it's healing properties .

Osoyoos - Hottest Place in Okanagan Valley | BC, Canada
Osoyoos is known as one of the warmest places in Okanagan and Canada’s only desert. I always like to visit this small town whenever I go to Kelowna. Located right on a border with the US it is a great spot to spend a few days.

Kelowna Weekend Getaway in the Fall. Three Must-do activities.
We have three ideas for must-do activities in Kelowna on a weekend getaway in the fall. At this time of year, the temperatures are a bit cooler making it perfect to be outside to enjoy the harvest, some wine tasting, and cycling. We brought friends with us this year and they introduced us to the Kettle Valley Rail trail at Myra Canyon where we cycled over eighteen trestles (wooden bridges) and through two tunnels in twelve kilometers. That’s a lot! The views were beautiful and there are even bike rentals for those without a bike.
We camped at Bear Creek provincial park in Kelowna during our stay. The campground was conveniently located mid-way between Myra Canyon (the start of the bike trail) and the fruit and wine businesses we planned to visit. More on this campground can be found in our review video.
