EPIC SCOTLAND ROAD TRIP | Edinburgh, Cairngorms,West Highlands
Scotland is a really beautiful country, easy to navigate and a great adventure when planning a road trip or taking a staycation in the UK.
In this video we provide short highlights of our time in Scotland and will follow up with full episodes of each area we visited: Edinburgh, The Cairngorms, The West of Scotland including Fort William, Roybridge, Glenfinnan, Loch Lomond .. (and loads more)
Before lockdown part 2 and Tiered systems we headed to Scotland for a staycation in the Autumn. To explore the cities and head into the great outdoors.
Our road trip adventure would cover many miles, with stunning scenery and windy roads. Scotland in autumn is a nature overload and a great way to get away from the madness of recent times.
Starting in Edinburgh we stayed near the Royal Mile and spend our time wandering the streets, making the most of what was open and available whilst keeping safe and responsible. Finding the secrets of how Harry Potter was created, exploring Edinburgh Castle and hiking up to Carlton Hill and to Arthur’s Seat.
Driving onwards, we headed through some incredible scenery to Breamar in the Cairngorms National Park. Here we took in a nature explosion, autumn looks good on Scotland. Many walks for a range of difficulties, we found woodlands, red squirrels and where the queen stays (Balmoral) when in Scotland!
We drive through to Aviemore, to the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, the only wild herd in the UK, taking part in some sustainable eco-tourism. Dodging some autumn Scottish weather we hiked to beautiful Loch Uaine too.
Continuing onto the West of Scotland to Roybridge near Fort William we stayed in a lovely cabin with an incredible view. Here we saw Ben Nevis and again more amazing nature and experiences. Detouring to Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness, driving to Glenfinnan and seeing the famous viaduct and Loch Shiel. After, driving a loop round the coast and back inland with more beautiful Scottish scenery on our great adventure.
Driving windy and wet roads we headed onto the Argyll Coastal 200, a route for driving between Ben Nevis and Loch Lomond. There were a few stops here in Oban, Kilmartin and Inverary before ending our adventure in Scotland in Drymen next to Loch Lomond. An amazing view (despite it being the most windy hike ever) and an amazing end to our Great Scotland Adventure.
Join as we learn how to navigate this world, with a backpack on and camera set to record. Our day to day experiences, the highs and the lows. REAL backpacking, hostels, transport. (Well not exactly this time around but for the most part anyways!)

You can't come to Edinburgh without visiting the city's royal attractions. Buy the Royal Edinburgh Ticket and discover both Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyrood house. To visit Edinburgh Castle, hop off at Johnston Terrace to climb Castle hill and explore its many delights. There are two separate museums, the famous One O'Clock Gun, the Great Hall, the Royal Palace, the Stone of Destiny and more! Rejoin the City Sightseeing tour and stay on the bus until you reach the Palace of Holyrood house, which has been the main residence of the Kings and Queens of Scotland for nearly five hundred years. The current Queen spends one week there every summer and the Palace is open to the public, though don't expect to see the Queen wandering about as it closes when she's there! For something a little different, our last recommendation is that you hop off at Lawn market to visit the Camera Obscura, which has been enthralling both locals and visitors since Queen Victoria was on the throne. Here you'll get a completely unique view of the city and get to enjoy five floors of optical illusions!

Water of Leith Walk ( Colinton-Edinburgh) April 2022
Old railway walk joining the Union Canal and Water of Leith walk into Edinburgh city centre. I got the number 10 bus from outside the Scots Monument on Princes Street out to Colinton, then walked back via the tunnel.
Travel to and Staying in Edinburgh 2021 - Train to Scotland
We travel to Edinburgh on a first-class train ticket, and we stay for a week in an Airbnb accommodation that's right next to Edinburgh Castle.
After an enjoyable walk up the Mile to where we are staying for the next week, we discover there is no water in the apartment and nearly end up forgetting the keys the first time we left the apartment, but everything fell into place and our family got to settle in for the night and get some yummy food.
Now we are ready and excited to explore Edinburgh in 2021. Looking forward to seeing what's on offer and if it worth it to travel in 2021.

The sculpture of Giraffes are created by Midlothian born artist Helen Denerley and was unveiled by the Omni Centre 27th July 2005. The two giraffes, nicknamed Martha and Gilbert, were made from scrap metal including parts from cars and motorbikes. The inscription surrounding the sculpture is from a poem by Roy Campbell, written in 1946, and reads 'Giraffes! a People Who live between earth and skies Each in his own religious steeple Keeping a lighthouse with his eyes.
The Manuscript of Monte Cassino is composed of three colossal body parts – a foot, an ankle and a hand. It poignantly explores the destruction brought about by war and at the same time offers a message of peace, hope and regeneration.
