10 Best place to visit in Coity United Kingdom

Ruins Of Coity Castle Bridgend South Wales

Originally founded in the early 12th century, Coity’s remains are a centuries-spanning jumble of architectural styles that reflect its lengthy occupation. Begun as an earthwork castle around AD 1100, the stone keep and curtain wall were late 12th-century additions.

Major rebuilding took place in the 14th century and again in the 15th, after Owain Glyndŵr laid siege to the castle during his uprising against English rule. Further modifications were made in the early 16th century, including the addition of a third floor.

Though the castle is now a ruin, remaining features from each era shed light on its long and storied life.

Places to see in ( Bridgend - UK )

Bridgend is a town in Bridgend County Borough in Wales, 18 miles west of the capital Cardiff and 20 miles east of Swansea. The river crossed by the original bridge, which gave the town its name, is the River Ogmore, but the River Ewenny also passes to the south of the town of Bridgend .

Bridgend railway station has regular services to Cardiff Central, Bristol Parkway and London Paddington to the east; Port Talbot Parkway, Neath, Swansea and the West Wales Line to the west; and Maesteg to the north. There are also services to Manchester Piccadilly. Bridgend is the western terminus of the Vale of Glamorgan Line which reopened to passenger traffic in 2005.

Wildmill railway station, about 1 mile (2 km) north of Bridgend railway station, serves the estates of Wildmill, Pendre and Litchard and is on the Bridgend-Maesteg branch line. A park and ride station at Brackla, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south-east of Bridgend railway station is planned and is due to be constructed once capacity improvements have been made to the South Wales Main Line. Services to a new railway station in Llanharan began in December 2007. Bridgend bus station has services to urban and rural areas in South Wales. Most services are operated by First Cymru.

Bridgend's Travel to Work Area has expanded since 1991 and the 2001-based area now incorporates the western part of the Vale of Glamorgan. Bridgend recovered quickly from the decline of traditional industries, particularly coal-mining due to other alternative forms of employment. Wages are generally higher here than in other parts of the South Wales valleys. There are large industrial estates at Bridgend and Waterton (formerly Waterton Admiralty) which host a number of small-scale and multi-national companies, mainly manufacturing.

( Bridgend - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Bridgend . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Bridgend - UK

Places to see in ( Cowbridge - UK )

Places to see in ( Cowbridge - UK )

Cowbridge is a market town in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales, approximately 7 miles west of Cardiff. Cowbridge is twinned with Clisson in the Loire-Atlantique department in northwestern France. Cowbridge is part of the Cowbridge with Llanblethian community (civil parish) which elects a Town Council.

On 13 March 1254, Cowbridge received its first borough charter from Richard de Clare, the Lord of Glamorgan. Richard de Clare was one of the most powerful Barons of the day, having huge estates stretching across much of South Wales and also lands in southern and eastern England. The town walls were built following this, sometime in the latter half of the 13th century.

The present Cowbridge Town Hall, a building whose foundations date back perhaps as far as the Elizabethan era, served as a prison until 1830, when it was converted into a town hall to replace the former Guild Hall, demolished at that date. The New Palladian Town Hall was built in 1830 by Isaiah Verity of Ash Hall who in gratitude was made a Freeman of Cowbridge. The money for the reconstruction was raised by public subscription.

Eight of the original prison cells are still intact, six of which house the exhibits of Cowbridge Museum. The remainder of the building is used by the town council and for public events. The museum holds archaeological finds from Cowbridge and district, as well as displays on the later history of the town, including industrial and domestic artefacts, a photographic collection, and a small historical costume collection.

Cowbridge contains the following inns: the Bear Hotel, the Horse and Groom, the Edmondes Arms, the Duke of Wellington and the Vale of Glamorgan. The latter is located at the premises of the former Vale of Glamorgan Brewery. Closely attached to the town of Cowbridge is the village of Aberthin. Aberthin contains two inns; The Hare and Hounds and The Farmers Arms. Cowbridge once had a railway station, which opened in 1865 and closed in 1951.

Cowbridge is also home to the Cowbridge Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS), based at the Market Theatre. CADS was formed in 1947 and aims to stage three main productions each year. The Society also publishes a newsletter, The Thespian, three or four times each year. Until 1997, when it 'outgrew' the Town Hall stage, Cowbridge was also home to the Cowbridge Amateur Operatic Society (CAOS).

Bridgend Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the Welsh county borough of Bridgend (historically in Mid Glamorgan) and around halfway between Cardiff and Swansea, is the town of Bridgend, or Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr in Welsh.

Following William the Conqueror's invasion of 1066, the Normans would later build three castles close to where Bridgend town centre is located today. These were Newcastle Castle, Coity Castle and Ogmore Castle. In 1141 Ewenny Priory was founded, just south of the town centre. Its Norman nave still serves as the local parish church.

In the early 15th century a stone bridge was built over the River Ogmore, from where the town's name is derived, both in English and Welsh. This is believed to have been used by pilgrims on their way to St David's Cathedral in Pembrokeshire. In 1775 two of the bridge's stone arches were washed away in a flood, and were later rebuilt.

In the 17th century the first coal mining operations began just north of Bridgend. Ironworks and brickworks were also established around this period, however the ironworks ceased operating in 1836.

In 1850 the railway arrived in Bridgend. This brought about significant growth in the town as it allowed for the transportation of the local coal to the nearby ports. Today the station is situated on the South Wales Main Line, with direct services to Cardiff taking around 20 to 30 minutes, and Swansea in around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on stops. Bridgend is also home to a bus station providing access to, among other destinations, the seaside town of Porthcawl whose railway station was controversially closed in 1963.

Famous people from Bridgend include newsreader Huw Edwards. The metal band Bullet for My Valentine formed in Bridgend in 1998.

Coity Castle, A Welsh Castle NOT To Be Missed - Places To See In Wales, Episode 5

The romantic ruins of Coity Castle near Bridgend, South Wales. It’s part 5 of our places to see in Wales series.

In the series, we look at some famous and not so famous places around our home country of Wales.

Coity Castle near Bridgend, South Wales is a Norman castle built in the 12th century by Sir Payn the Demon de Turberville, one of the legendary Twelve Knights of Glamorgan.

Major rebuilding took place in the 14th century and again in the 15th after Owain Glyndŵr laid siege to the castle during his uprising against English rule. Further changes were made to the castle in the early 16th century, including the addition of a third floor.

- In the 15th century Coity defended against a siege from Owain Glyndwr.
- Gilbert Denys and William Gamedge illegally besieged it and they were later thrown in the Tower of London.
- But after 1411 the castle passed to the Gamage family.
- During the 16th century the castle underwent a complete remodelling including a storey and chimney stacks.
- In 1585 Barbara Gamage married Sir Robert Syndey and moved, leaving the castle to decay.
- It was abandoned around the 17th century.
- Eventually the Coity lordship passed to the Earls of Dunraven.

Castles Everywhere - BRIDGEND To Ogmore Castle, Walking With ‘The Normans’ In Wales

Bridgend South Wales - Yes, another castle in Wales. This time I start my walk at Newcastle overlooking the River Ogmore and Bridgend town centre and walk along the river to Ogmore Castle.

Newcastle Castle was built in the 12th century as the River Ogmore was the border between the invading Normans and the Welsh to the West.

From the castle, I walk down Newcastle Hill to the River Ogmore and follow it through Bridgend. South towards the New Inn Bridge which is better known as the Dipping Bridge.

Then it’s across the fields past the ancient settlement of Verville to Ogmore Castle.
Ogmore (along with Coity and Newcastle) was part of a trio of castles built to guard Glamorgan.

All these castles are managed by CADW and are free to enter. Check their website for the latest opening times.

Caerphilly Castle - Places To See In Wales, Episode1

We visit the largest castle in Wales in the first episode of our new series “Places To See In Wales” We’ll be taking a look at some famous and not so famous places around our home country of Wales.

Caerphilly Castle is a is medieval castle just north of Cardiff in South Wales. It was built in the 13th century by Gilbert de Clare. It was used as a base to conquer Glamorganshire and there was extensive fighting between Gilbert and the Welsh.

The castle is in the centre of the town and there are great views around the area. It costs £8.50 (Dec 18) to enter the castle and it’s big enough to spend a couple of hours there. #VisitWales

One of the most striking things about the castle is the leaning south east tower. It leans at 10 degrees, there is some debate as to whether the damage was caused during the English Civil War or as a result of subsidence when the castle fell into disrepair.

Caerphilly Castle has been used as a location for many TV and film productions including many episodes of Dr Who, Wolf Hall and Restoration with Robert Downey Jr.

Don’t forget to subscribe and click the notification bell to keep up to date with the serious about Wales or see what else we get up to on our travels around the world.

Raglan Castle | Exploring Monmouthshire Wales

Raglan Castle is a ruined castle which still evokes the magnificence and grandeur from it's hey day.

The castle looms over the A40, one of the trunk-roads connecting the Welsh towns of Abergavenny and Chepstow with the borders of England.

Raglan has a rather checkered history – it started life, in late Medieval times, as a real fortified castle. However, being built during a peaceful period in the English/Welsh border wars, it didn’t see much military action. As a result, it evolved into a breathtakingly beautiful Tudor manor-house.

This is our very first castle explore video and I don't think we could of picked a better castle to explore due the it's majesty. We do hope you enjoy watching.

- Prince John then acquired it but handed it over to Morgan ap Caradog to strengthen welsh relations.
