MOSCOW is the capital and largest city of Russia. The city stands on the Moskva River in Central Russia, with a population estimated at 12.4 million residents within the city limits, over 17 million residents in the urban area, and over 20 million residents in the metropolitan area. The capital was then moved back to Moscow following the October Revolution and the city was brought back as the political centre of the Russian SFSR and then the Soviet Union. In the aftermath of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Moscow remained as the capital city of the contemporary and newly established Russian Federation.
As the northernmost and coldest megacity in the world, and with a history that dates over eight centuries, Moscow is governed as a federal city (since 1993) that serves as the political, economic, cultural, and scientific centre of Russia and Eastern Europe. As an alpha world city, Moscow has one of the world's largest urban economies. The city is one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world, and is one of Europe's most visited cities. Moscow is home to the fourth-highest number of billionaires of any city in the world, and has the highest number of billionaires of any city in Europe. The Moscow International Business Center is one of the largest financial centres in Europe and the world, and features some of Europe's tallest skyscrapers. Muscovites enjoy public digital services more than anywhere else in Europe, and the best e-government services in the world. Moscow was the host city of the 1980 Summer Olympics, and one of the host cities of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
As the historic core of Russia, Moscow serves as the home of numerous Russian artists, scientists, and sports figures due to the presence of its various museums, academic and political institutions, and theaters. The city is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and is well known for its display of Russian architecture, particularly its historic Red Square, and buildings such as the Saint Basil's Cathedral and the Moscow Kremlin, of which the latter serves as the seat of power of the Government of Russia. Moscow is home to many Russian companies in numerous industries and is served by a comprehensive transit network, which includes four international airports, ten railway terminals, a tram system, a monorail system, and most notably the Moscow Metro, the busiest metro system in Europe, and one of the largest rapid transit systems in the world. The city has over 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, making it one of the greenest cities in Europe and the world.

A tour of Chita in Winter, -30° ❄️ ????
A quick visit to the beautiful town of Chita, in the Russian Far East.
A mix of East and West with incredible charm.
Town visited in January 2021 with a freezing temperature (around 30 below zero!)
This is part of series filmed during my Trans-Siberian railways raid from Ulan Ude to Vladivostok.

10/13. Tren Transiberiano - Chita - Trans-Siberian Railway

Viaje en el tren Transiberiano. Paramos en la ciudad por el día.
Esta ciudad por mucho tiempo estuvo prohibida para extranjeros, ahora se puede visitar sin problemas. En el cielo muchos helicópteros, algunas veces cuatro de ellos al mismo tiempo, los turistas miran al cielo constantemente los habitantes de Chita para nada. Cuidad llena de estatuas, edificios y parques (nosotros solamente visitamos el centro de la ciudad). Pequeños cafés y restaurantes, como también pequeñas tiendas donde se venden artesanías y arte local. Como a través de toda Rusia las personas muy amables y siempre dispuestas a ayudar cuando se les pide, muy pocas personas hablan español (francés o inglés). Se puede comprar, cerca de la estación de trenes, comida para el viaje ya que hay un centro comercial y un pequeño supermercado. Parece que muchos turistas de Rusia visitan Chita también.
Nos tocó un día muy oscuro y nublado, antes de tomar el tren nosotros quedamos totalmente mojados por la lluvia, literalmente. Una muy bonita ciudad para visitar.

This city for a long time was forbidden for foreigners, now you can visit it without problems. In the sky there were many helicopters, sometimes four of them at the same time, tourists constantly look at the sky while the inhabitants of Chita do not. City full of statues, buildings and parks (we only visited the city center). Small cafes and restaurants, as well as small stores selling handicrafts and local art. As throughout Russia the people are very friendly and always ready to help when asked, very few people speak English (French or Spanish). You can buy, near the train station, food for the trip as there is a shopping mall and a small supermarket. It seems that many tourists from Russia visit Chita as well.
We had a very dark and cloudy day, before taking the train we were totally wet because of the rain, literally. A very nice town to visit.

The first full day in Chita started very late as i didn't get to bed until 3am due to a 12 hour delay at the airport in moscow. When we first checked in for our 9pm flight, we were advised that it was delayed until 2am. we then upgraded to business class to get access to the first class lounge to pass the 7 or so hours until our flight. By 9pm, the flight was delayed until 7am. We were told to go a hotel counter to get a hotel room that had been arranged for us. Once there, the hotel didn't know anything about it and after an hour, we came to the conclusion that it was never going to happen. A group of us made our way back to the lounge, but security had been told not to let us back in. Not sure why. After about 2 hours of bugging airport administration, and doing a sit in, in front of the first class check in, they finally let us back inside. Anyway, long story, but after 15 hours, we finally got off the ground. I met someone from the army who couldn't speak a word of english, nor me russian. vodka was the universal language and he told me he was on his way to vladivostok where they have a top secret base. we shared photos taken in St. Pete's and he was off a few hours later. I stayed until the next day. finally landing at the airport around midnight their time. walked into a dark terminal and waited for the bags. There we met Misha's parents Misha and Svetlana. Great people. Off home we went and stayed up and chatted til 3.30am. I got up late at noon, and Misha, and his parents were up much earlier. Had a walk around town, then back for a meal. Between noon and 7 I ate 3 meals and then, i was told we were going out. After a little tour we saw the area where Misha's parents were building a cottage, then a drive further out into the night on a bumpy little highway we stopped for a Buriyati feast. the Buriyati are the areas indiginous people. They are are similiar to a mongolian people in my opinion. So out came the food. Keeping in mind that i had already eaten more than i usually would, i sampled all the food that i saw. First salad and then soup. no problem. Then out came this plate of something that can be best described as a meat donut. There is an opening at the top and you lips to the opening and try to drink out the broth through the hole, and then eat the meat inside. no problem. Then out came real ribs. not the grocery store variety. no problem. Then the meat platter containing the most unusual meats i had ever seen. Anyway they were cut up and put on my plate. I think one was like haggis, something stuffed with mince meat or something. no problem. then something that was a rubbery tube, i think was an intestine, but not sure. i put it in my mouth. problem. the gag reflex kicked in and i spit it out before loosing my cookies. the last delicacy, well, it looked like an animal appendage i won't mention before it got cut up. I played with the piece on my plate, using a fork. it was far too rubbery to even try, so i chickened out. On the way home, i got a tour of the city and even tho, some parts are run down and not up to western standards, the area is undergoing alot of expansion with new buildings going up everywhere. Apparently Moscow has given the region alot of money to upgrade the roads. Chita, sits in a valley surrounded by big hills on all sides, similar to monogolian steps, but not big enough to be mountains. The city roads are in terrible condition and the buildings vary in degrees of maintenance. On 1 block you can see a hundred year old wooden house, with a new glass multi storey building beside it. We went to Misha school and met some of his friends and he said hello to some of his teachers. I got to wander through the school a bit. The school ...

Siberia and taiga by hitchhiking. Jatri-yoga house in Chita, russian buddhists
We started to hitchhike back from Far East towards Moscow in the end of September.
Our plan is to visit main cities on the way.
We came to Chita to stay with a guys which practice Jatri-yoga and other spiritual practices. Also we met at their house a buryatian lama.
We visit village in Taiga forest in the mountains where local people pick up cedar cones and sell nuts - its a good business in this region :)
On the way to Irkutsk we saw lake Baikal for the last time in this trip...
