The best way to reach Nandi Hills is by personal vehicle. Alternatively, you can take KSRTC buses from Bangalore Bus Stand and reach Nandi Hills within 2-3 hours from Bangalore City. You can also go to Chikballapur, which is located at a distance of 10 km from Nandi Hills. There are frequent bus services from Chikkaballapur Bus Stand to Nandi Hills and vice versa.
There are many beliefs about the name of Nandi Hills. This hill is called Nandi Hills because it looks like a sleeping bull. Some people say that the name of this hill is derived from an ancient temple and the idol of Nandi situated on the hill.
Nandi Hills is also home to many temples. Yoga Nandeeshwara Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Nandi Hills. This temple was built by the Chola king and attracts many visitors.
This place was used as a summer retreat by the famous ruler Tipu Sultan. His summer residence can still be seen in Nandi Hills.

Adiyogi Chikkaballapur Bangalore | Isha Foundation | Places to Visit Around Bangalore
Adiyogi shiva statue at Avalagurki village in Chikaballapur district is a replica of the Adiyogi shiva statue at Isha yoga center at Coimbatore. The distance from Bangalore to Adiyogi statue at Avalagurki village is about 80 km. This can change based on different different locations in Bangalore. From NH 44, you will have to take a left after crossing India Dhaba and get onto narrow road called Isha Foundation road. The statue is 112 feet in height and center is open from morning 6 AM to 8 PM in the night. There is no entry fees but you will be charged a parking fee while you are entering. The highway road is very good. Off highway the narrow road is pitched and leads to a big gate displaying welcome to the abode of Yoga. Behind this gate, the hill section starts. The road is paved with stones now.
We had tender coconut at one of the stalls on the way. Each coconut cost Rs 40. There we also some grapes stall selling various kind of grapes. Green grapes cost Rs 80 per kilo and small red ones cost Rs 120 per kilo. Temples in India has almost always led to development and economic activity. I think top priority should be given to temple economics. The Adiyogi statue is located among the hills on all side. As of now there are few food stalls in the complex but if you want more elaborate choice then you will have to go to the restaurants on the highway. I did not see any stay facility there as of now. Nandi hills is a must see place near Bangalore. Wonderful Journey. Wonderful pictorial spot. Awesome view.
I advise Bike journey rather CAR or BUS. This place is 70KM approx. from Bangalore Bus Station/Rail station. Whatever you choose you must reach before sunrise as this is is the wonderful view from this hills.
Start early 4 o'clock and you will reach in 1.30 hrs to the place. I believe you will be amazzzed with the view. Route: Bangalore---Hebbal (Hyderabad route)---Devanhalli (Airport)---take left (Nandi Hills Road) --- travel for 20KM. Nice road and direction are available, no confusion.
Attractions: Totally non commercial place. Just go and enjoy the view. You will be entertained by Natural sites. Parks for children, a old temple, valley view and obviously sunrise.
Best time to visit: All year, though if you’re one of those who enjoy rain : May-July ; fog: Nov-Jan
Stay: We have some cottages but I do not know how far these are safe. I recommend to stay from 6AM- 2PM and enjoy other places.
