It was a pretty long bus trip from Windhoek (Namibia) to Lubango (Angola). The border crossing took some time and the language barrier was evident. English was scarce. It was good to have a look around and explore Lubango and the surrounding region.

A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.
As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.
The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.

O Morro, que conserva o título de ponto mais alto do país, eleit em 2013 como uma das 7 Maravilhas Naturais de Angola, conta com 2.620 metros de altitude, localiza-se a cerca de 42 km a sudoeste da cidade do Huambo, entre as comunas do Londuimbali e Ekunha, Huambo, a noroeste da cidade do Huambo.

Para além disso, as encostas do Moco estão cobertas pelo verde da floresta de montanha típica desta região de Angola — um rico ecossistema que serve de casa a várias espécies de aves locais, algumas em risco de extinção. A paisagem convida à ornitologia e também à canoagem.
O Moco conserva muitos e valiosos recursos faunísticos e minerais que, aliados ao seu incomparável relevo, fazem dele um lugar de referência na região e no país e a preferência de muitos turistas nacionais e estrangeiros. O Monte tem 85 hectares de floresta de montanha, com abundantes e variadas espécies de animais, como macacos, serpentes, coelhos, cabras do mato, javalis aquáticas e até de espécies raras, como Francolim de Swierstra, que fazem das cavernas e grutas do morro o seu refúgio.
Do ponto de vista turístico, o relevo apresenta a sua forma natural e sustentável, por isso todos os finais de semana membros de associações religiosas, estudantis, excursionistas de distintos pontos do país e estrangeiros visitam a área para verem de perto as maravilhas que proporciona.

Tundavala in Lubango, Angola
The Tundavala Gap is the main natural and geological attraction of the Huíla province. This awe-inspiring abyss near Lubango is located right at the rim of the Serra da Leba mountain range. From here onwards, Angola’s Central Plateau abruptly drops from over 2 kilometres high to just 1 km, takes on a curious wave-like form and extends westwards towards the Namibe beaches.
Tundavala Gap is a viewpoint in the rim of the great escarpment called Serra da Leba. It is located some 18 km from the city of Lubango, in Huíla province, Angola.
Tunda-Vala (also known as Tundavala) is a breathtaking gorge cut out of the Chela Escarpment looking towards the town of Bibala in the north, and Lubango’s second must-see. Again, there’s no public transport so you’ll need to arrange an informal taxi to get you there. If you have your own car, getting to Tunda-Vala is easy; it’ll take about 3 hours for a round trip and you can do it in a normal car if driven carefully and if in the dry season. Tunda-Vala is about 17km northwest of the centre of town and you’ll need to leave Lubango on the main road passing the former Grande Hotel on your left heading up the gentle hill out of town towards Namibe. About 3.5km after the hotel, Tunda-Vala is signed to the right on a good tarmac road which passes first the N’gola brewery (5km after the turning) and then the Coca-Cola bottling plant 1km further on. Stop for the freshest and cheapest draught beer in Angola at the modest Pérola do Sul bar on the left-hand side of the road between the two bottling plants. The road continues and, as it ascends, the tarmac disappears and the surface turns first into a gravel road then a dirt track, eventually opening up on to a wide high plain with a moonscape of weird-shaped rocks, many of which have been stacked precariously on top of each other by nature. Tunda-Vala is at the end of this track. A concrete viewing platform has been built at the point where a deep ravine slices into the edge of the vertical cliff. At the bottom of the cliff some 1,000m below is a wide green plateau punctuated with odd-shaped hills that stretches to the sea over 130km away at Namibe. To get a feel for the height of the cliff, toss a stone over the edge and count until it hits the bottom – usually about 8 seconds. Here, above the clouds, the air is clear and you may see the occasional eagle and monkey.
The escarpment marks the western limit of Bié Plateau. The altitude at the rim exceeds 2200 m, while the plain below is approximately 1200 m lower, which creates a rather impressive view, encompassing a distance of tens of kilometers.
Tundavala National Stadium, in Lubango, which hosted the matches of Group D in the 2010 African Cup of Nations is named after Tundavala Gap.

Serra da Leba
A Serra da Leba separa a Huíla do Namibe, tem um declive de mais de 1.000 metros e faz parte do roteiro turístico de dentro e fora de portas. Seduz o mais exigente turista, por ser inédita e grandiosa. Com o miradouro, a paisagem, a cascata, os tons e sons únicos, tem sido visitada por grandes personalidades que se encantam e extasiam.
No passado, as vias comerciais tinham caminhos impraticáveis e o comércio era moroso, com a carga transportada às cabeças dos carregadores ou no dorso de animais. Hoje, destaca-se pela estrada ziguezagueada desenhada num aveludar da encosta. A estrada é uma obra da arte de 20km, com 19 curvas espectaculares, construída em 1915, com a ousadia e conhecimento do Eng.º Artur Torres, ligando agora o Namibe ao Lubango em 2 horas.
Vota na Fenda da Tundavala
Janela natural do planalto da Huíla para o Deserto de Namibe, a maravilhosa Fenda da Tundavala situa-se a um pouco mais de dois mil metros de altitude, rodeada de imponentes falésias, sobre a cordilheira da Chela. Tem uma distância de aproximadamente 15 quilómetros a oeste da cidade do Lubango, capital da província da Huíla.
O sítio, pela sua atractiva beleza e características propícias ao turismo, foi classificado como paisagem natural e cultural, por Decreto Executivo nº 5/12 de 9 de Agosto, do Governo de Angola.
As comunidades nativas consideram-no também como sendo o lugar onde os espíritos dos seus antepassados se refugiam, fechando-se em gavetas invisíveis.
