Chambéry est une commune française située dans le département de la Savoie en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Installée dans les Préalpes du Nord entre les massifs des Bauges et de la Chartreuse, aux confluents de la Leysse et de l'Albanne puis de l'Hyères, la ville est l'actuelle préfecture de la Savoie, ainsi que le siège d'une cour d'appel et d'un archevêché. Avec une population municipale de 59 490 habitants en 2014, Chambéry se classe au 91e rang national.

La ville est surnommée la « Cité des ducs » car acquise par la maison de Savoie en 1232, elle devient la capitale politique des comtes de Savoie en 1295 lors de l'achat du château et de l'établissement officiel du Conseil résident1, puis du duché de Savoie de 1416 jusqu'à son transfert à Turin en 15622. Chambéry demeure toutefois la capitale historique des États de Savoie. Grâce à la maîtrise des grands cols alpins et de la route d'Italie, qui leur a valu le surnom de Portiers des Alpes, les comtes, puis ducs de Savoie, devenus rois de Sardaigne en 1718, ont exercé une influence certaine en Europe, notamment en instaurant un véritable laboratoire de l'« absolutisme éclairé ». De 1792 à 1815 et depuis 1860, la ville fait partie de la France.

Chambéry é uma comuna francesa localizada no departamento de Savoie, na região de Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Localizada nos Pré-Alpes Setentrionais entre os maciços Bauges e Chartreuse, na confluência de Leysse e Albanne e depois Hyères, a cidade é a atual prefeitura de Savoie, bem como a sede de um tribunal de apelação e de uma arquidiocese. Com uma população municipal de 59.490 habitantes em 2014, Chambéry ocupa a 91ª posição nacional.

A cidade é apelidada de “Cidade dos Duques” porque adquirida pela Casa de Savoie em 1232, tornou-se a capital política dos Condes de Savoie em 1295 quando o castelo foi comprado e o estabelecimento oficial do Conselho Residente1, então Ducado de Savoie de 1416 até a sua transferência para Torino em 15622. No entanto, Chambéry continua a ser a capital histórica dos Estados de Savoie. Graças ao domínio dos grandes desfiladeiros alpinos e da estrada para a Itália, que lhes valeu o apelido de Portiers dos Alpes, os condes, então duques de Savoie, que se tornaram reis da Sardenha em 1718, exerceram certa influência na Europa, em em particular estabelecendo um verdadeiro laboratório de “absolutismo esclarecido”. De 1792 a 1815 e desde 1860, a cidade faz parte da França.
