Neighboring countries are Colombia in west and south west, Brazil in south and Guyana in east. The country shares also overlapping maritime borders with Barbados, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Puerto Rico.
With an area of 912,000 km² Venezuela is slightly more than 2.5 times the size of Germany or slightly more than twice the size of the U.S. state of California. Venezuela has a population of 31.1 million inhabitants (in 2015) of whom 6 million live in the capital and largest city Caracas. Official language is Spanish.
Caracas is the capital city of Venezuela, set in a beautiful valley overlooked by Avila Mountain. This is a city of great contrasts, excellent food, and edgy nightlife. There are some good museums, fine architecture, and one of the best galleries in South America at the Museo de Arte Colonial.

La Guaira es la capital del estado Vargas, Venezuela. Se encuentra ubicada al centro-norte de Venezuela a 30 km de la ciudad de Caracas, capital del país caribeño. El clima es tropical árido, con un promedio anual de 28 °C y menos de 200 mm de precipitaciones anuales. La altitud de La Guaira es de 4 msnm, su latitud de 10º 36' 00 N y su longitud de 66º 55' 59 O. La ciudad posee más de 200 mil habitantes pero la parroquia La Guaira solo posee 20.274 habitantes según estimaciones de 2018. Vargas ofrece 120 km de un litoral sorprendente por su diversidad, donde se alternan playas paradisíacas de arena blanca, ideales para el disfrute familiar, con costas vírgenes muy rocosas azotadas por el viento y el fuerte oleaje del mar Caribe. Por su cercanía con Caracas, Vargas constituye un área natural para el turismo capitalino.

Caracas es la ciudad capital de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela y la más poblada de este país.Desde el siglo XIX es considerada el centro del poder político y económico de Venezuela.6 Está ubicada en la zona centro-norte costera del país, a 12 km de la costa del mar Caribe y se sitúa dentro de un valle montañoso.7 Aunque se sitúa próxima a la costa, la ciudad se ubica a casi 900 metros de altitud, separada del Litoral central de Vargas, por la Cordillera de la Costa y que, a su paso por el núcleo urbano, se constituye como el Parque nacional El Ávila.8 La autopista Caracas-La Guaira sirve como principal vía de comunicación entre la ciudad y el estado costero de La Guaira, así como al Aeropuerto Internacional Simón Bolívar de Maiquetía y al puerto de La Guaira, el segundo puerto del país.910
Caracas fue fundada el 25 de julio de 1567 bajo el nombre de Santiago de León de Caracas por Diego de Losada,11 luego de los intentos fallidos de Francisco Fajardo.12
Como capital, alberga las sedes principales de los organismos que constituyen los poderes del Estado, siendo estos: el Ejecutivo (Presidencia de la República), Legislativo (Asamblea Nacional), Judicial (Tribunal Supremo de Justicia), Electoral (Consejo Nacional Electoral) y el Consejo Moral Republicano o Poder Moral (Ministerio Público); (Defensoría del Pueblo); (Contraloría General).13141516 Caracas es a su vez el centro de negocios de Venezuela, siendo sede de grandes empresas del país.
Entre sus sitios de interés están: el Complejo Urbanístico Parque Central,17 la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas (Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco) y sede de la UCV,18 el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas, el Hotel Humboldt, el Teatro Teresa Carreño, el Centro Simón Bolívar, el Paseo Los Próceres, la Plaza Altamira, el Parque del Este, Esfera Caracas, el Distribuidor la Araña, el Paseo Colón o el Palacio Federal Legislativo.
La ciudad también es conocida por ser un hito de la arquitectura moderna a nivel mundial durante el Siglo XX, entre las obras de renombre destacan: la Villa Planchart de Gio Ponti, las Nubes flotantes del Aula Magna de Alexander Calder, la Casa González Gorrondona de Richard Neutra, el Centro Banaven de Philip Johnson, el Club Táchira de Fruto Vivas, la Villa Monzeglio de Antonio Montini, el Viaducto Nueva República de Riccardo Morandi, el Hotel Ávila de Wallace Harrison, el Hipódromo La Rinconada de Roberto Burle Marx, el Poliedro de Caracas de Jimmy Alcock, la Antigua Embajada de los EE.UU de Donald Hatch & Harry Bertoia y los proyectos inconclusos como el Museo de Arte Moderno de Oscar Niemeyer o la Capilla de los Delgado Chalbaud de Le Corbusier.
De igual manera Caracas es considerada la Capital Mundial del Brutalismo por la cantidad y calidad única de edificios sobresalientes que contribuyeron de forma universal al desarrollo y difusión de este estilo arquitectónico. Entre las obras de este tipo destacan: El Helicoide, el Edificio Univel, la UCAB, el INCE, la Torre Phelps, la Torre Diario El Universal, La Previsora, la Torre Delta, la Torre América, la Torre Británica, el C.C.C.T, Torre del BCV, la UNEARTE, la Biblioteca Nacional de Venezuela o el Palacio de Justicia de Caracas.
El núcleo urbano se constituye en el Área metropolitana de Caracas, constituido por el municipio Libertador (Distrito Capital) y los municipios Chacao, Baruta, El Hatillo y Sucre del estado Miranda. Para la gestión conjunta de la ciudad se creó el Distrito Metropolitano de Caracas (DMC)19 o «Área Metropolitana de Caracas» (AMC), bajo la figura de la Alcaldía Metropolitana,20 un órgano político-administrativo que coordinó el funcionamiento de Caracas. La existencia de esta administración se encuentra en disputa, ya que el 20 de diciembre de 2017 la Asamblea Nacional Constituyente, organismo creado y controlado por el gobierno de Nicolás Maduro, aprobó el Decreto Constituyente para la Supresión y Liquidación del Área Metropolitana y Distrito del Alto Apure,21 disolviendo ambas entidades y siendo acatada por el alcalde encargado Alí Mansour Landaeta días después.22 Sin embargo, el 9 de enero de 2018, la Asamblea Nacional, con mayoría opositora declaró la «absoluta nulidad» de la decisión de la Asamblea Constituyente de suprimir las entidades.

Catia La Mar is a city and port in the municipality of Vargas, in the State of Vargas in Maiquetía, Venezuela. It is Maiquetia's neighbor to the west.
Catia la Mar is about 10 minutes from Simón Bolívar International Airport (Venezuela's main airport).
Named after a 16th-century chief, Catia, contemporary of the famous Guaicaipuro, founded in 1558 by Francisco Fajardo with the name of La Villa de Catia, currently call Catia la Mar. the city hosts a naval academy and university, a fishing port called La Zorra, and several beaches (Costa Dorada, Playa La Zorra, Playa Candilejas, Puerto Viejo). Its main neighborhoods are Atlantida, Playa Grande, Páez, Ezequiel Zamora, La Lucha, and La Soublette.
According to the 2011 census, the city had 85,366 inhabitants, making it the most populous of the 11 parishes in Vargas State.
The city was affected by the 1999 Vargas tragedy.
