Castelmonte - FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA
Castelmonte (Madone di Mont, in Friulian) is a friary cloister in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, North-Eastern Italy.
You can get to Castelmonte starting from Cividale in about 15 minutes on a 9-km road reaching more than 600 metres above the sea level.
Castelmonte has a good-looking church hosting the statue of a brown Virgin Mary, the Madonna di Castelmonte. The hill regularly hosts pilgrims coming from all parts of the Region and beyond.
In fact, castelmonte is part of the three holy mounts together with Marijino Celje and Sveta Gora in Slovenia - constituting a 50 km trip that can be done in 1 day by car.
Castelmonte can also be reached by the Natisone and Judrio valleys, with an analogous altitude gain if starting from the town of Cividale.

The nine Sacri Monti (Sacred Mountains) of northern Italy are groups of chapels and other architectural features created in the late 16th and 17th centuries and dedicated to different aspects of the Christian faith. In addition to their symbolic spiritual meaning, they are of great beauty by virtue of the skill with which they have been integrated into the surrounding natural landscape of hills, forests and lakes. Via Roma runs between Piazza Carlo Felice and Piazza Castello. Buildings on the portion between Piazza Carlo Felice and Piazza San Carlo were designed by rationalist architect Marcello Piacentini. The section of the street between Piazza San Carlo and Piazza Castello was built in eclectic style, with arcades characterised by Serliana-type arches. Via Roma crosses one of the main squares of the city: the pedestrianized Piazza San Carlo, built by Carlo di Castellamonte in the 17th century. Piazza San Carlo arcades host the most ancient cafés of the city, such as Caffé Torino and Caffé San Carlo.

Castelmonte lies just 7 kilometers away from Cividale del Friuli and its 608 meters high above sea level.
Cividale is a very nice town and its one patrimony of UNESCO
Some pilgrimage group usually started to Walked and recites their Rosary up to the Santuario.
It was built in V-VII century.

Piazza San Carlo Turin
Piazza San Carlo was designed by Carlo di Castellamonte in 1642 and completed in 1650. In the middle of the piazza you'll find the equestrian statue of Emanuele Filiberto (known to all as El Caval èd brons), sculpted by Carlo Marocchetti in 1838. The porticoed buildings surrounding the piazza give space to numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants.

La Venaria Reale
La reggia di Venaria Reale è una delle residenze sabaude parte del sito seriale UNESCO iscritto alla Lista del Patrimonio dell'umanità dal 1997.
La reggia di Venaria fu progettata dall'architetto Amedeo di Castellamonte. Fu commissionata dal duca Carlo Emanuele II che intendeva farne la base per le battute di caccia nella brughiera collinare torinese.
Lo stesso nome in lingua latina della reggia, Venatio Regia, viene fatto derivare dal termine reggia venatoria. Al borgo si unirono molte case e palazzi di lavoratori e normali cittadini che vollero abitare nei dintorni della reggia, fino a far diventare Venaria Reale un comune autonomo della provincia di Torino.

Starting out as an ancient monastery, the Castello di Monterado passed on to the Duchy of Urbino and later to the powerful Della Rovere family.
Today the monumental fortress belongs to the Rodano family who have painstakingly brought it back to its original splendor.
Orlando and Kira are young and attentive hosts.
Four magnificently spacious suites (Atena, Afrodite, Amorini and the Bridal suite) are available with original antiques, chandeliers, period paintings, and restored whimsical frescoes on high ceilings.
The Bridal Suite is the largest and the most special. It was commissioned by Napoleon's nephew for his wedding night with the daughter of Russia's Czar Alexander.
Its private terrace overlooks soft hillsides and it has a refurbished but original (early 1900s) bathroom.
Other suites have contrasting new designer bathrooms.
A series of common rooms wraps around the courtyard; formal sitting rooms, library with century-old books, music room and terrace, and frescoed dining room where breakfast is served.
The simply-appointed apartments, within a building across the street, can accommodate from four to six people.

Avigliana - Castello
The earliest mention of this castle built on Mount Pezzulano is in 924, under Arduin Glaber. The structure had mighty bulk and high towers. It was the last stronghold before Turin for those invading from France, and underwent frequent assaults and much looting over the centuries.
This stronghold was also an important defensive base during the 10th century in the long fight against the Saracen invasion of north-western Italy.
According to some sources, in 1137, the building was one of the favorite seats of Amadeus III, Count of Savoy, when he resided on this side of the Alps. Humbert III of Savoy, Amadeus III's son and heir, was born there on 4 August 1136.
Frederick Barbarossa destroyed the castle during his descent into Italy, but it was later rebuilt by Thomas I of Savoy.
In the 13th and 14th century, the castle was remodeled as an irregularly ellipsoidal enclosure that follows the contours of the natural relief. The castle comprised a residential wing with a chapel, leaning against the eastern side, a massive square central tower and a semi-circular false tower in the southern corner.
In 1536, after conquering the town of Susa, the French army partially destroyed the castle with cannon fire.
After the period of splendor of the Savoy court, from the 15th century until its destruction, the castle was simply a fortress in the lower Susa Valley. It was often damaged and then rebuilt, most recently by Amedeo di Castellamonte in 1655. The castle was finally destroyed using mines by the French troops of Marshal Catinat in May 1691. It no longer needed to be rebuilt after the construction of the new Savoy fort of Brunetta di Susa in 1708, which was later demolished at the end of the 18th century, and Fort of Exilles.
What remains today are the ruins of the old manor house and defensive walls. From the ruins, a panoramic view over Susa Valley, the city of Avigliana and its two lakes can be enjoyed.
IVREA ( Eporedia - Torino - Italy ) - IL CASTELLO DI IVREA - Castle Ivrea -
L'imponente Castello di Ivrea, situato nella parte alta della città è chiamato da Giosuè Carducci castello “dalle rossi torri”.
Il poderoso edificio - a pianta quadrata con vasto cortile e rafforzata agli angoli da slanciate torri cilindriche, di cui la maggiore fu gravemente danneggiata nel 1676 da un fulmine - fu costruito nel 1358 su committenza di Amedeo VI di Savoia per scopi difensivi.
Il complesso in cui fu inserito comprendeva le sedi principi del potere politico e religioso di stampo medioevale: Il Comune, il Capitolo vescovile e la Chiesa.
Sensibilmente modificato negli anni successivi, dal 1750 al 1970 l’intera struttura è stata usata come carcere ed è stata completamente spogliata di tutti i preziosi arredi interni.
Oggi il castello appartiene al Demanio ed è affidato al Comune di Ivrea che, a sua volta, è supportato dall’Associazione “Castello di Ivrea”, fondata nel 1994.
