Presso il centro del paese, sulla sponda destra del Naviglio Martesana, si trova un'imponente ruota idraulica (popolarmente chiamata rudun) che si dice sia stata progettata da Leonardo Da Vinci in persona. Malgrado le apparenze la ruota non è un mulino, ma una noria.

Bormio is a town and comune with a population of about 4,100 located in the Province of Sondrio, Lombardy region of the Alps in northern Italy. The centre of the upper Valtellina valley, it is a popular winter sports resort. It was the site of the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1985 and 2005, and annually hosts the Alpine Ski World Cup. In addition to modern skiing facilities, the town is noted for the presence of several hot springs that have been tapped to provide water to three thermal baths.
Bormio lies in the northeast of the Lombardy region at the top of the Valtellina, a broad glacial valley formed by the Adda River that flows down into Lake Como. It is linked to other valleys via four passes:
South Tyrol via the Stelvio Pass
Val Müstair via the Umbrail Pass
Livigno via the Foscagno Pass
Ponte di Legno via the Gavia Pass
Due to its thermal baths at Bagni Vecchi, Bagni Nuovi and Terme di Bormio, Bormio has long been a tourist attraction. Members of the Roman aristocracy already travelled to Bormio in order to enjoy warm baths in the mountainous scenery. Most of these thermal baths are still in use today. The town is centred on the historic Piazza Cavour and Via Roma, a historic main trading point on the route from Venice to Switzerland. Bormio retains its unique medieval town centre, attracting many tourists, mainly Italian, from Milan and other cities.
The village hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships twice, in 1985 and 2005, both cohosted with Santa Caterina di Valfurva. There are fifty kilometres (30 miles) of marked ski runs, the longest run of which is 6 km (4 mi), served by fourteen lifts and several ski schools.
Bormio is a regular stop on the World Cup circuit, usually with a men's downhill in late December. The Pista Stelvio, named after Stelvio Pass, is one of the most challenging downhill courses in the world; it is second-longest on the World Cup circuit, behind only the Lauberhorn in Wengen, Switzerland.
For the World Cup race in December 2017, the Stelvio started at an elevation of 2,255 m (7,398 ft), with a vertical drop of 1,010 m (3,314 ft) and course length of 3.27 km (2.03 mi). The winning time of Italian Dominik Paris was just under two minutes, yielding an average speed of 100.66 km/h (62.5 mph) and a vertical descent rate of over 8.6 metres (28 ft) per second.
The Giardino Botanico Alpino Rezia (1.5 hectares) is a botanical garden specializing in alpine plants, located in the Stelvio National Park at Bormio, Province of Sondrio, Lombardy, northern Italy. The garden was created in 1980 with a primary mission to collect and preserve all plant species in the Stelvio National Park, but also to preserve species from other mountain regions including the Andes, the Himalayas, and the Pyrenees.

There are many cycle tracks in Lombardia and even if doesn't look like, even in Milano. In this video I've made few trips around Parco Nord, then headed towards the Martesana from there till Cassano, D'Adda, the road is simple and immersed in the nature. Along the path, always protected by cars apart few intersections, you get to see some nice scenery that could be interesting from a photographic point of view, which is why I've decided to go there, scouting with my bicycle, for a total of 87km.
If your ride will focus only on Martesana and Cassano D'adda and back, then it will be around 60km

Quarta tappa di attraversamento da Est ad Ovest dell'Alta Italia da costa a costa, fiancheggiando un po' meno i grandi fiumi, ma toccando la città dei due duomi, Brescia, con il suo centro storico mozzafiato e innumerevoli paesini lombardi, con il loro sapore manzoniano. Incontro con due simpaticissime caravaggine, che hanno immediatamente sposato la nostra causa e si sono iscritte a nostro canale Bicinviaggio (grazie con tutto il cuore!). Arrivo come sempre quando inizia a fare buio sulle sponde dell'Adda, da dove ripartiremo incontrando il naviglio Marchesana.

Our day 4, crossing from East to West of Northern Italy from coast to coast, going along a little less the great rivers, but touching the city of the two cathedrals, Brescia, with its breathtaking historical center and countless Lombard villages, with a Manzonian taste. Meeting with two very nice Caravaggine, who immediately liked our cause and joined our Bicinviaggio channel (thanks with all our heart!). We arrive as always when it begins to get dark on the banks of the Adda river , from where we will start again meeting the Marchesana canal.

???????? Eccoci alla quinta tappa del nostro costa a costa dell'Alta Italia, lungo i navigli Martesana e Pavese, da Cassano d'Adda a Pavia. Il Duomo di Milano ci sorprende ogni volta, ma la Certosa di Pavia ci riempie di grandissima meraviglia, increduli di come si possa dare vita al marmo... Arrivo a Pavia, dormiremo vicino al Ponte Coperto (dove c'è un altro pezzetto dei nostri cuori), dalla Signora Angela della Residenza i Mille, che già ci conosce e ci fa sentire ogni volta come a casa.
???????? Here we are at the fifth stage of our Italy coast to coast, along the Martesana and Pavese canals, from Cassano d'Adda to Pavia. The Cathedral of Milan surprises us every time, but the Certosa di Pavia fills us with great wonder, with all those incredibly carved marble ... Arrival in Pavia, we will sleep near the Covered Bridge (where there is another piece of the our hearts), by Signora Angela of Residenza i Mille, who already knows us and makes us feel at home every time.

LOMBARDY - Walking along the Naviglio Martesana - From Gorgonzola to Groppello D'Adda
A walk along the Naviglio Martesana, in Lombardy, from Gorgonzola to Groppello D'Adda.
The cycling and walking route along the canal offers a beautiful view of the Italian countryside, near Milan.
This part of the trail is about 10 km long and covers following towns: Gorgonzona, Bellinzago Lombardo, Inzago, Cassano d'Adda, Groppello d'Adda.
Naviglio Martesana e fiume Adda Parte prima ( Milano-Gorgonzola)
Il Naviglio della Martesana è un canale della Lombardia, nel nord Italia. Origina dal fiume Adda, nei pressi di Trezzo sull'Adda, fino a Milano, era conosciuto anche come Naviglio Piccolo. Fa parte del sistema dei navigli del milanese .Lungo circa 38 chilometri, con un consistente tratto coperto , la sua larghezza varia tra i 9 ei 18 metri, mentre la profondità è compresa tra uno e tre metri. Originariamente chiamato Naviglio Piccolo, cambiò successivamente in Martesana dal nome della contea che attraversa. La storia del canale inizia il 3 giugno 1443, data di un documento di Filippo Maria Visconti, Duca di Milano, che approva un ambizioso progetto proposto da un gruppo di illustri cittadini milanesi guidati da Catellano Cotta, amministratore del duca per il monopolio del sale. Il progetto mira a deviare il fiume Adda e costruire così un canale per l'irrigazione e per alimentare fino a 16 ruote di mulino. Il progetto prevedeva una presa d'acqua posizionata appena sotto il castello di Trezzo sull'Adda, dove il corso naturale del fiume si restringe, producendo quindi una corrente sufficiente a garantire un flusso d'acqua costante. Il canale doveva costeggiare il fiume fino a Cassano d'Adda, dove avrebbe curvato in direzione sud-ovest verso Milano, poi avrebbe abbracciato la cinta muraria di Inzago, svoltando verso Trecella e Melzo, per finire nel fiume Molgora A causa della situazione politica dell'epoca, nulla accadde fino al 1457, quando l'editto di Francesco Sforza, sottoscritto da Cicco Simonetta, segnò l'inizio dei lavori di progettazione. Il progetto era visto come di grande utilità pubblica: fin dalla guerra tra Milano e Venezia, lo Sforza aveva realizzato le potenzialità militari ed economiche di un canale navigabile in un'area che, all'epoca, era considerata di importanza strategica per il ducato . Modificò così il progetto originario, per inserirlo in un contesto più ampio dando alla città di Milano un collegamento idrico ai fiumi Adda e Ticino. Fu costruito dall'ingegnere Bertola de Nova (1410-75) e inaugurato nel 1465 da Bianca Maria Sforza. The Naviglio della Martesana is a canal in the Lombardy region, Northern Italy. The project was seen as being of great public benefit: since the war between Milan and Venice, Sforza had realised the military and economic potential of a navigable canal in an area that, at the time, was considered to be of strategic importance to the dukedom. So he modified the original project, to put it into a wider context giving the city of Milan a water connection to the Rivers Adda and Ticino.It was constructed by the engineer Bertola de Nova (1410–75) and inaugurated in 1465 by Bianca Maria Sforza.Today it is a popular recreational area, known for its tranquil and traffic free cycling paths.In this first stage you leave Milan and reach Gongorzola covering just under 15 KM

40 RIVERS Chez Raginiak - River #19 -- Adda, Pizzighettone, Italy
40 RIVERS OF LOVE, FORGIVENESS, AND APPRECIATION
This was sooo exciting for me -- to visit the first Italian river! It was like going for my favorite Italian ice cream when I was a kid
What you need to understand is this... in order to visit/cross 40 rivers in 40 days in 10 countries, I could not afford (time-wise) to visit some famous cities located on each river. That would take way more time and ... a lot of money, too. The purpose of this trip was THE RIVERS. So, here is how I worked at it...
Each night (or every other night) I would look at the map and find an ideal location -- like a town that I could stay overnight that was on my way through those 10 countries. Then, I looked for rivers along the way. Then I would find a place (like a business or restaurant or park) that was as close as possible to my road crossing the river. I would enter the first location into the GPS (that spoke in Polish to me -- I know: the car with German license plates, driving through Italy, with American passport, and Polish GPS talking to me... talking about GROWIG YOUR BRAIN CELLS! ), and I would follow it. Keep in mind that there are road construction and/or changes in the traffic that the GPS has no idea about. So, I've been driving through some towns and fields that no travel book would ever list!
So, often the GPS (and because of the location I picked) took me through some tiny villages and roads where 2 cars could not pass, but... that's part of the journey, isn't it?
To get to the Adda river I had to go through probably 10 small villages -- no, nothing special, but at least I had the chance to see the normal Italy -- not all those perfecto places that we all desire to see. I saw ordinary people doing ordinary things living in ordinary houses. Riding old bikes, cars, and tractors. Going on with their lives -- just like people do in all small towns and villages around the world. Sometimes I felt like I was back in my small town, Lukta, in Poland. Some of the buildings even looked the same. Only weather was much, much better than in Poland!
In the end it was all worth it. The river was beautiful! The place was secluded, quiet, and white -- like and altar ready for a ceremony.

Crespi D'Adda Village One Day Tour | UNESCO World Heritage | BEAutiful VLOGS
Crespi is the name of a family of cotton manufacturers from Lombardy. This family realized an ideal workers' village nearby their factory, along the Adda river. The Villaggio Crespi d'Adda (Crespi Workers' Village) is an entire town, built from nothing by the owner of the factory for his workers and their families. The workers were provided with homes, gardens, vegetable gardens and all necessary local services.
In this perfect little world the master of Crespi reigned from his castle and, like a caring father, satisfied all needs of his employees: from the cradle to the grave both inside and outside the factory, predating any official state benefits or provisions. Only those who worked in the factory could live in the Village, and the life of everybody was connected to the factory, its rhythms and its demands.
The UNESCO Committee for the World Heritage entered Crespi d'Adda in the World Heritage List in 1995, as an extraordinary example of the phenomenon of the worker's villages, the most complete and best preserved of south Europe.

Una bellissima passeggiata lungo la riva dell’Adda all’interno di un parco verde e pieno luoghi affascinante. La pista ciclabile dell’Adda è il prolungamento della pista ciclabile del Naviglio Martesana che arriva fino a Milano. A Trezzo sull’Adda in prossimità della centrale elettrica Taccani inizia la ciclabile che costeggerà il fiume Adda fino a Lecco. Zaino in spalla, si parte per questo percorso di trekking fluviale che in tre tappe mi porterà fino a Lecco.
