Sardinia TOP 10 Places to Visit: Costa Smeralda, Cagliari, Villasimius, Alghero, Stintino, and more

If you are planning to visit Sardinia, in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do on the island, with a sightseeing map of the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Sardinia region.

In this video:
- WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including Cagliari, Alghero, Emerald Coast (Costa Smeralda), Pelosa beach, the village of Bosa, Villasimius, Costa Rei, Limbara mountain, Gallura, Tavolara island, Capo Ferrato, Stintino village.
- Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a tour to better visit the island, with a clear map of Sardinia and tips to organize your trip and your vacation.
• Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Sardinia, with its rich traditions and wonderful nature!

So, what are the most relevant points of interest in this fascinating island? Here are my answers:

COSTA REI
Located on the southeast coast of Sardinia, Costa Rei is a small village. This place is much appreciated by international travelers as a destination for holidays in Sardinia.
Across miles of stunning white sand beaches, here you can find high-quality tourism services: some of the best family hotels, luxury villas, resorts, restaurants, and much more.

GALLURA
Among the favorite tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, Gallura lies on a beautiful stretch of land almost lapping Corsica, overlooking the Strait of Bonifacio.
The extreme north of the island is the natural pearl of the promontory of Capo Testa, with its beaches surrounded by the greenery of strawberry trees and a rich Mediterranean vegetation.

COSTA SMERALDA
In particular, the Costa Smeralda is a coastal stretch that is part of Gallura and which extends for about 55 kilometers.
Moving south there is the imposing island of Tavolara, in front of which there are other beautiful beaches such as Lu Impostu and Brandinchi.

ALGHERO
Alghero is a city loved for its walkway along the port’s bastions, the red roofs that touch the sky and the historical center: a labyrinth of narrow streets that connect piazzas bustling with life.

VILLASIMIUS
Villasimius is popular for its renowned resorts, hotels and long white sand beaches with crystal clear waters, diving sites, coves, and a landscape covered in the Mediterranean scrub.

LIMBARA
Visit Monte Limbara, a rocky granitic massif not very high (1,359 meters), recommended to those who want to hike and enjoy nature without a deep trekking experience.

CAGLIARI
Most tourists begin their visit in the island capital of Cagliari, stopping at least to climb from Piazza della Costituzione to Bastione San Remy.
Cagliari can be an excellent base for visiting the southern coast of the island, which has some of the best beaches in Sardinia.

STINTINO (LA PELOSA BEACH)
The main tourist attraction of Stintino is the beach of La Pelosa, made of fine white sand and a turquoise-blue sea. An icon here is the tower, built in 1578 by the Aragonese, called Torre della Pelosa.

BOSA
In the village of Bosa, a tangle of medieval streets winds from the old stone bridge to the hilltop Malaspina Castle.

CAPO FERRATO
The wild promontory of Capo Ferrato is ideal for taking beautiful walks and breathing in nature.

FOOD:
Dishes to taste:
Fregola: is a type of pasta from Sardinia. It is similar to North African Berkoukes, Levantine Moghrabieh, and Israeli couscous.
Seada is a Sardinian dessert prepared by deep-frying a large semolina dumpling with a filling of soured Pecorino cheese and lemon peel in olive oil.
Culurgiones: Sardinian stuffed pockets made from semolina flour, white flour, eggs, water and salt giving a soft crust to the ravioli.

FEATURED IN THIS VIDEO:
How to Get into the City:
- From Pisa Airport (Gallilei Gallileo Intl Airport): Take the Pisamover to Pisa Centrale Station, and buy a ticket to Florence (Santa Maria Novella Station)
- From Florence Airport (Peretola)
Cheapest option is the new Tram from T2 to Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence.
Or just hop in a cab)

How to Skip The Lines:
(VERY IMPORTANT TO AVOID SPENDING HOURS IN LINES!)
- The most user friendly website for reserving skip the line reserved ticket times (for the Uffizi Gallery and the Academia Gallery (Michelangelo's David) is:

(But you’ll pay more of a fee…but it is user friendly)
- The official ticketing website for the Uffizi Gallery and The David is B-ticket:

(Less user-friendly, but a cheaper ticket price…and it’s not that hard to figure it out)
- The official site for reserving a climb for the Duomo is here (this will also include entrance into all of the attractions of the Duomo):

- You can also call to book a time at the Uffizi and David by calling this number from a US phone:
011-39-055-294-883
- Or this number from an Italian phone:
055-294-883

You can also sometimes book through your hotel (if you’re staying at a hotel)
Or go with a small group tour like ArtVivia (more expensive, but highly recommended):

5. Explore the Genoa Cathedral
The Genoa Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint Lawrence, is a stunning example of Italian Gothic architecture and is one of the most impressive churches in Genoa. It is one of the most important and historic religious buildings in Genoa, having been built in the 12th century. It has undergone several renovations and additions over the centuries, making it a fascinating example of how architectural styles and techniques evolved over time. The interior is equally impressive, with stunning vaulted ceilings, elaborate stained glass windows, and intricate mosaics. The cathedral remains an important center of religious worship in Genoa, and visitors can attend mass or simply take a moment to reflect and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of this beautiful church. The Cathedral is a must-see destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, art, or spirituality. It is a true gem of Genoa and a testament to the enduring power of human creativity and devotion.

4. Walk along the Corso Italia:
Corso Italia is a lively street located in the heart of many Italian towns and cities. It is known for its stunning architecture, colorful buildings, and charming streetscapes. Walking along the Corso Italia will give you the opportunity to take in the beauty of your surroundings, enjoy the picturesque views, and perhaps even capture some great photos. The street is often a hub of cultural and historical significance. You may find yourself walking past important landmarks, museums, and galleries that offer a glimpse into the area's rich past and present. Taking the time to learn about the local history can be a fascinating and enriching experience.

3. Enjoy the Boccadasse beach.
Genoa has several beaches, which are perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Boccadasse Beach is a small, charming beach located in the Boccadasse neighborhood of Genoa, Italy. The beach is known for its picturesque surroundings, colorful buildings, and relaxing atmosphere. The beach is rocky, so it's not the best place for swimming, but it's still a great spot to enjoy the stunning views of the Ligurian Sea. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the beach or sit and relax on the rocky shore while taking in the scenery. In addition to the beach itself, the Boccadasse neighborhood is worth exploring. It's a charming fishing village that is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes.

2. Try the local cuisine:
Genoa has a rich culinary tradition that is influenced by its location on the Mediterranean Sea. The cuisine is known for its fresh seafood, homemade pasta, and delicious pesto sauce, which is made with local basil, pine nuts, and Parmesan cheese. The cuisine of Genoa has a unique flavor profile, with dishes such as pesto alla Genovese, focaccia, and farinata that are not found in other parts of Italy. Trying the local cuisine gives you the opportunity to experience new and exciting flavors that you may not have tried before. While Genoa is known for its seafood dishes, the cuisine also includes a variety of other dishes, including meat and vegetarian options. There's something for everyone to enjoy, whether you're a seafood lover or not.

1. Take a funicular to the Righi Hill
Taking a funicular to the Righi Hill in Genoa is a great way to experience some of the best views the city has to offer. The funicular ride itself is a fun and unique experience, as you climb up the hillside through tunnels and past scenic views. Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Genoa, the harbor, and the surrounding countryside. The Righi Hill is also a great place to explore on foot, with numerous walking trails and picnic areas. You can visit the Forte Sperone, a historic fortress that was built in the 19th century to defend Genoa from invaders. The fort has been restored and turned into a museum, where you can learn about the history of Genoa and the fort's strategic importance. In addition to the scenic views and historic attractions, the Righi Hill also offers a peaceful and relaxing escape from the busy city below. The fresh air, natural surroundings, and slower pace of life make it an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of northern Italy.
