Bell Ringing at Fernhurst, West Sussex

In the tower of St Margaret in Fernhurst, a small village just north of Midhurst and south of Haslemere, are a very loud mears three. After a short climb up a tight staircase to the ringing room, you are greeted with a ladder to get up to the belfry. The draught isn't that high, and right above the ceiling is are the bells. There is no insulation therefore they are very loud, as you can see Francesco shouting over the sound of bells to be heard! In the belfry, which the hatch goes into the tenor's pit, there is not much room, and a ceiling just above the bells, leaving enough space to walk on the frame. They handle alright apart from all the ropes being a bit high and the treble having very little handstroke. All in all, they are a nice sounding three!
