10. San Estanislao
Named after a Polish saint, founded by Spanish Jesuits, intended to convert the native Guarani Indian peoples of San Pedro in central Paraguay, and infused with the cultures of immigrants from Italy, Germany and Eastern Europe throughout the last two centuries, the pint-sized yet interesting little stop-off of San Estanislao is like the history of the country writ small.

Filadelfia sits just on the edge of the Gran Chaco, where the forests and undulating hills of the Region Oriental give way to the great boreal plains that form the very heartlands of the continent as a whole.That makes this far-flung town – the so-called ‘Capital of the Chaco – a very different place to the small southern cities of Aregua and Itaugua.

Just a short drive from the heart of the buzzing downtown streets of Asuncion, and now almost contiguous with the capital thanks to the ceaseless expansion of its outer suburbs, little, lakeside Aregua is a fine place to go to escape the heat and energy of Paraguay’s only real metropolis.

This small backwater town set in the shadow of the bulbous cliffs and rocky hills just south of the capital at Asuncion began life as a Spanish mission intended as a settlement spot for the Guarani natives back in the early decades of the 1600s.
5. Ybycui National Park
Capuchin monkeys swing through the canopies while howlers scale the tree trunks at Ybycui National Park, a small and tight-knit protected section of what’s remaining of the Upper Parana Atlantic Forest. Most travelers make the relatively short 150 kilometer drive here straight from the capital, eager to see the gushing waterfalls that cascade down through the rocky undergrowth of the forests in steps and plunge pools.

Like a Moroccan bazaar, the markets of Ciudad del Este sprawl out along the courses of the Parana River, the sounds of Middle Eastern hagglers and Taiwanese electronics hawkers echoing between the rows and rows of blinking electronics and branded clothes.
3. Cerro Cora National Park
This pint-sized natural reserve is unquestionably one of the most dramatic and breathtaking sections of backcountry in all of Paraguay. Only recently established, it encompasses a great swathe of undulating savannah and highland terrain, where otherworldly hills peak above the swaying grasses and mosquitoes buzz around the shuffling carapaces of armadillos.

The so-called ‘Pearl of the South’ reclines carefree on the banks of the Parana River, drawing crowds of Asuncenos (people from the capital) during the summer with the promise of pristine riparian beaches and the country’s most up-and-coming boardwalk boulevard.

Located 84 km from Asunción.
Carapeguá is the most populated district of the Paraguarí Department. It has a total population of 32,939 inhabitants, being 16,903 males and 16,036 females.
In this district could be visited the House of the Culture and the Historical Artisan Museum of the Oñondivepá Cultural Center, that shows diverse samples of the history, art and culture of the region. The cathedral and the bishopric see also deserve a visit.
There are many commerce where could be acquired the products made of poyvi, like sheets, hammocks, blankets and ponchos.
By the Caapucumí company you can get to Mosito Isle navigating in cachiveos (canoes made of timbó trunks) to visit the paradisiac isle of 35 hectares in the middle of the Ypoá estuary.
Minute 2:45 : Tereré or Tererê (of Guaraní origin) is an infusion of yerba mate (botanical name Ilex paraguariensis), similar to mate but prepared with cold water and ice rather than with hot, and in a slightly larger vessel.
Tereré is a typical, popular drink from Paraguay where it is common to see students, friends, co-workers or families drinking tereré together during the summer, a time when temperatures reach 40 to 45 °C (104 to 113 °F). Some people put medicinal herbs or yuyos into the water to treat ailments such as headaches, stomach aches and high blood pressure.
Production of customized vacuum flasks termos for the water and guampas is common. These termos usually consist on a leather-covered 2-Liter thermos commonly filled with iced water and yuyos (medicinal herbs). The thermos has a leather cup-shaped space on the side for the leather-covered guampa. The guampas and leather-covered vacuum flasks are often personalized with names or logos. It's common to see people on the streets carrying these thermos by a leather strap for convenience.

Cerro Perõ - Paraguarí - Paraguay
En el Cerro Perõ de Paraguarí se encuentra el Mirador Cristo Rey. El cerro tiene una elevación actual aproximada a los 240 metros, y el mirador está ubicado en la altura original del cerro a 250 metros. Esa diferencia se debe a que se procedió a realizar excavaciones y extracción de piedras del cerro para la contrucción de la ruta. En la cima quedó una gran planicie que hoy en día se utiliza como mirador natural y desde ahí puede divisarse las otras elevaciones importantes de Paraguarí, así como también la ciudad y otras ciudades cercanas.
El Mirador Cristo Rey es una construcción que posee un oratorio, una imponente cruz y accesos con escalera para llegar hasta su cima. Cada año es visitada por los peregrinantes en una gran procesión como recordando el fatídico ascenso de Cristo al Monte de los Olivos, es por eso que en cada Semana Santa, específicamente el Viernes Santo se realiza esta actividad; pero debe resaltarse que el mirador está abierto todo el año.

Ya somos 200 celebramos con un recorrido por la ciudad de Luque por las Avenidas Gral. Aquino, parte del centro de la ciudad, la zona CONMEBOL.
Una particularidad de Luque es que durante la guerra contra la triple alianza, en el año 1868, fue capital del país al ser Asunción tomada.

Firefighters Without Borders Paraguay Trip
Firefighters Without Borders BC team travels to Paraguay in Feb 2009 to donate firefighting equipment and training to volunteer firefighters in the capital city of Asuncion. Our thanks go out to the fantastic women and men of Hall 3 in Sajonia (say-HONE-ya, who demonstrated a true passion for protecting their community and showed us the real meaning of hospitality.
In addition to our duties at the fire station, we found some time to visit a local orphanage, get a behind the scenes tour of the Itapu (E-ta-poo) hydro-electric project and tour Iguasu (E-gua-soo) falls which sits at the borders of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.
