Capbreton is a commune in the Landes department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. Located at the mouth of the Boudigau and Bourret rivers, the town is situated about 40 km north of Biarritz. Capbreton is north of Bayonne and Biarritz in south-west France at the point where the river Adour ends it’s passage to the sea. If you love seafood this is unquestionably one of the best places to visit in France. It’s income has traditionally been netted from the fruits of the sea, and it is recognised as one of the best places to eat fresh fish and seafood.
perhaps it’s the Gauf, a deep water crevice extending to over 1000 meters below sea level or just the fresh ocean current that delivers this exotic mix of sea fruit, but ultimately for me it’s the freshness of the produce and the skills of the restaurants that cook and serve it. It’s superb, and a plate of 'fruit de mer' (seafood) is a brilliant reminder of your visit.
Nowadays, Capbreton is set up for the tourist market, but not like Newquay or Brighton… yes, there are surf shops, designer labels and sunglasses and yes of course you can buy buckets, fishing nets and coral jewellery, but the focus is on the sea, the waves, the sunsets, the brilliant weather and the lifestyle that calls itself.
It’s where the French go on holiday and it’s a well kept secret, lapped by the channel. The area is clean and unspoilt with a timeless charm. For the children there are miles upon miles of sandy beaches, though watch out for the strong current. There are ice-cream shops that sell every flavour you could imagine, there are rock-pools with the opportunity to net your own oysters, and of course there’s the sand… and there’s lots of it.
Capbreton is divided into two parts. To the north, there is the port centre, with your usual suspects… the Surf Shacks and the bucket and spade vendors, sandwiches that cost the earth and well meaning restaurants serving this mornings catch at overinflated prices. You’ll find obstacle courses for fitness enthusiasts, playgrounds for the under 10’s and hairdressers and boutiques for the glamorous that shop. Continue passed these and you’ll find a quaint harbour beach where you can revisit your childhood, finding treasures in the rock pools and shoals of miniature fry ready to be snapped up by your infants. You’ll discover crabs of every colour and pick fresh oysters from the rocks if no one beats you to it! It’s the place of childhood dreams as you play pirate on the jetty and scrape the sand from your toes.
Slightly downstream, and usually after lunch, you can visit the Grand Plage. This is a luxuriously long beach with the odd parasol but not a wind break in sight, not a German towel, and no loud music and no rubbish! You have the choice of joining the throngs of French tourists, or walking further along the beach to find a deserted spot. The beach at Cap Breton is one of the cleanest in Europe, the sea is like a clear jewel, and the surf is great. Edged by a surprisingly tasteful block of tourist apartments, there are no high rise buildings, parking is a nightmare and the ocean current can be dangerous, so don’t let your children in alone.

CAPE BRETON Travel Guide ???? | Things to do in Cape Breton, NOVA SCOTIA, Canada ????????
Hello and greetings from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where in this travel guide we plan to highlight some of the top things to do for visitors! We recently spent a week road-tripping the island and what an adventure that was! This was our fourth summer exploring Nova Scotia, and this time around we focused on southern Cape Breton, specifically the area between St. Peter’s and Port Hastings. Here is our Cape Breton Travel Guide covering some fascinating things to do in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I think this is a really interesting area to visit because it is very accessible. Port Hastings is the first town you hit if you’re crossing via the Canso Causeway (the only land access point to the island!), so it’s a logical starting point, and it makes a lot of sense for travellers who want to see a bit of Cape Breton without having to drive too far.
We spent our week in southern Cape Breton doing an iconic sail from lake to sea, feasting on seafood at every meal, tackling different hiking trails, and enjoying the warm hospitality the island is known for.

Road Trip Nouvelle Aquitaine - From Bordeaux to Biarritz via the French Pyrenees
A road trip is the best way to discover the diversity of the French region Nouvelle Aquitaine! In this video I will take you to Bordeaux, to the French Pyrenees and to Biarritz at the Atlantic Ocean.
I will show you cool and sustainable activities in these three destinations. I have personally made this trip in only a few days, but if you have more time on your hand, definitely stay longer. There is much more to discover!
Here's what you will see:
Let me show you Bordeaux in a tour with an electric Tuk Tuk, a photo walk through the brutalist quarter Meriadeck and a bicycle tour to all of Bordeaux's street art as well as the artist quarter of Darwin.
Not far from Bordeaux, we will explore the wine castle Chateau du Taillan, where we will even be shown their secrets in the basement.
From there, we will drive to Fabrèges where we will take the ski lift up the mountain for some spectacular views. But not enough, the little train called Petit Train will take us even higher up, almost all the way to the Lac d'Artouste.
Let me show you the cozy village of Arudy before we go on a nerve-wrecking ziplining adventure in Laruns!
Last but definitely not least, we will explore the hip beach town of Biarritz. Follow me while I discover the best photo spots, enjoy some oysters in the old harbour and enjoy the sunset in this beautiful town.

Located in the Atlantic Ocean coast of Southern France, Capbreton is a popular beach resort not far from Biarritz, Basque Countries. We visited it in winter time, when the cloudy weather does not stop the local surfing clubs to enter the waves. The Atlantic Wall was an extensive system of coastal defences and fortifications built by Nazi Germany. Along the beach of Capbreton it's possible to see ruins of such bunkers.

Marina Port Capbreton, France
Marina Port Capbreton overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is the only marina in Landes, France.
Close to picturesque sandy beaches and the Landes forest, Port Capbreton is a unique place for an exciting yachting stopover in Europe.
Marina Port Capbreton has 950 moorings on floating pantons and accepts yachts up to 23 meters in length. All berths are equipped with water and electricity, and access to pantones is carried out using automatic gates that can be opened with an electronic key.
At Marina Capbreton you will find toilets, showers, a waste bin, a weather forecast and much more.
There is a fuel station operating around the clock, and pumps for black and gray water.
The service area is equipped with a 30 ton lift. Local experts will be able to ensure the repair and maintenance of your yacht at the highest level.
Fish and seafood lovers will be delighted to visit the port's fish market, which is open every day. You will find here mackerel, puffin, squid, hake, flounder, sea bream and much, much more.
Marina Port Capbreton is surrounded by eight beaches. The most popular among them is Central Beach. Among other things, the waves make Capbreton an ideal place for surfing.
The port of Capbreton is also interesting from an ecological point of view, because literally a few steps from the entrance to the port begins one of the most unusual underwater canyons in the world. The vast underwater valley descending to the bottomless depths has sheltered many marine species, some of which are still unknown: deep-sea fish and cetaceans from the abyss itself. Locals say that a giant squid has been seen several times near Port Capbreton Marina.

THE BEST SURFING SPOT IN FRANCE - HOSSEGOR, FRANCE
Enjoy some drone shots and a walkthrough of the beautiful Hossegor village in France. Located between Biarritz and Arcachon, Hossegor is glued to CapBreton. Here you can enjoy some waves in the Atlantic Ocean . The water here is warm and nice even if you don't use a wetsuit in the summer time. The beaches are wide and with soft sand.

Episode 2 - The best of France's western coast …and beyond to Spain
In our second clip of the MS Amlin series, John and his team set off on his boat Cecienne along the Atlantic coast of France with its amazing ports and harbours.
The first stop is the thriving and picturesque city of La Rochelle, in the Poitou Charente’s region. Steeped in history, with many museums, medieval houses and renaissance architecture (not forgetting an abundance of shops), La Rochelle offers a great taste of what can be expected from an ideal all year round destination.
The Ile de Re, an island just off the west coast, is the next destination. The island has retained a laid back Gallic charm lost from many mainland regions. Once there, you can rent all types of vehicles to really explore and enjoy all the island has to offer.
Looking to follow the sun further south, Capbreton, located at the mouth of the Boudigau and Bourret rivers in the very South West of France, is a fantastic destination as well as a surfers’ paradise. Hendaye is the last destination before entering Spanish waters. Both Capbreton and Hendaye have great marinas for winter cruising.
