⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC : Canarsie, Brooklyn via Rockaway Parkway to Canarsie Pier

Google Maps Route:

I exit an (L) Train at the Canarsie - Rockaway Parkway Station and walk along Rockaway Parkway to the edge of Brooklyn at Canarsie Pier.

From Wikipedia:
Canarsie (/kəˈnɑːrsi/ kə-NAR-see) is a working- and middle-class residential and commercial neighborhood in the southeastern portion of the borough of Brooklyn, in New York City, United States. Canarsie is bordered on the east by Fresh Creek Basin, East 108th Street, and the BMT Canarsie Line (L train); on the north by Linden Boulevard; on the west by Remsen Avenue to Ralph Avenue and the Paerdegat Basin; and on the south by Jamaica Bay. It is adjacent to the East Flatbush, Flatlands, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, and East New York neighborhoods.

The area near Canarsie was originally settled by the Canarse Native Americans. The community's name is adapted from a Lenape word meaning fenced area. After European settlement, Canarsie was initially a fishing community, but became a popular summer resort in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. By the late 1930s and early 1940, the resorts had been destroyed, and Canarsie was developed as a largely white Italian American and Jewish suburb. In the 1970s, racial tensions developed around an argument over the zoning of the area's schools, and in the aftermath, Canarsie became a mainly black neighborhood with a high Caribbean and West Indian population in the late 1990s.

Canarsie is part of Brooklyn Community District 18 and its primary ZIP Codes are 11234 and 11236. It is patrolled by the 69th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. Politically it is represented by the New York City Council's 42nd and 46th Districts.

NYC's Most Dangerous Neighborhood : Walking Brownsville, Brooklyn (July 2021)

Brownsville, Brooklyn consistently ranks as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in NYC for violent crime, but is it really that bad? I take a walk through the notorious neighborhood and show that there is much more to the area than meets the eye. I finish the walk by visiting the newly opened Villain's Hideout Pizza Bar for some great food and company!

From Wikipedia:
Brownsville is a residential neighborhood located in eastern Brooklyn in New York City. The 1.163-square-mile (3.01 km2) area that comprises Brownsville has 58,300 residents as of the 2010 United States Census. The neighborhood's boundaries are unclear, but it is generally bordered by Crown Heights to the northwest; Bushwick and Cypress Hills to the north; New Lots to the east; Canarsie to the south; and East Flatbush to the west.

Founded in its current incarnation in 1858, initially a settlement composed of Jewish factory workers, Brownsville underwent a major demographic change in the 1950s that saw an influx of African-American and Latino residents. Since then, it has consistently held one of the highest poverty and crime rates of any neighborhood in New York City.

Corrections
At 1:23, I'm unsure if William Suydam declared bankruptcy.
At 5:36, Mike Tyson did not grow up in Van Dyke Houses, he grew up at 178 Amboy Street.

NYC's Roughest Neighborhood? : Walking in East New York, Brooklyn (January 22, 2021)

I walk through the neighborhood of East New York, Brooklyn from the Pennsylvania Avenue (3) Station, make my way to the Linden Houses, head north on Van Siclen Avenue, and then walk on New Lots Avenue.

From Wikipedia:
East New York is a residential neighborhood in the eastern section of the borough of Brooklyn in New York City, United States. Its boundaries, starting from the north and moving clockwise, are roughly the Cemetery Belt and the Queens borough line to the north; the Queens borough line to the east; Jamaica Bay to the south, and the Bay Ridge Branch railroad tracks and Van Sinderen Avenue to the west. Linden Boulevard, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Atlantic Avenue are the primary thoroughfares through East New York.

East New York was founded as the Town of New Lots in the 1650s. It was annexed as the 26th Ward of the rapidly growing City of Brooklyn in 1886, and became part of New York City in 1898. During the latter part of the twentieth century, East New York came to be predominantly inhabited by African Americans and Latinos.

Canarsie Brooklyn Christmas Lights Frank Seddio House New York City USA 2020 4K video

First beginning in 1963 with the homes previous owner, the tradition is been carried on by Brooklyn’s Democratic Party Chairman Hon. Frank Seddio, who purchased the property in 1986. Since then, the holiday display has grown tenfold, now consisting of $350,000 + worth of decorations, including almost 100 unique moving parts and more than 50,000 lights and spanning eight holiday-themed displays, the show dazzles visitors from all over the borough with its extravagance and detail.

Some state that the Canarsie Brooklyn Christmas Lights are the inspiration of the Dyker Heights Christmas lights of Brooklyn NY

Lucy Spata started the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights tradition ( D train to 79th St / New Utrecht Ave) when she moved to the neighborhood in the 1980s. She decorates her house to to carry on the tradition her mother had started. In fact, all the angel decorations you see here are in honor her mom’s memory.

New York City 4K | Driving Around Brooklyn [Canarsie] ????Driving around Brooklyn Canarsie is always an adventure.
????Join our channel to get access to perks: ????

???? When you're close to the water the traffic is always a bit heavier, since cargo ships, ferries, and other watercraft sometimes need to traverse the bay. For those of you who aren't familiar with the area, Canarsie is a relatively poor neighborhood in South Brooklyn that lies just north of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. This is especially true in the vicinity of Flatlands Avenue, which runs through Canarsie's heart. The area is among the most interesting in Brooklyn, both architecturally and culturally, and offers some of the best ethnic food you'll find anywhere in the city.

????Surrounded by industrial sites and miles of open water on three sides, Canarsie has traditionally been viewed as a working-class community. But that's changing. With the waterfront now rapidly transforming from a no-man's land into a vibrant, 24/7 neighborhood, there are new housing, commercial and cultural developments coming to the area. Some welcome, some not. Residents are pushing for greater community input during the planning stages.

????No talking, just driving????The camera was mounted outside and you could hear the raw sounds of the City.????30-minute beautiful drive - smooth binaural sounds workout for treadmill walking, jogging or running training????
