Lapus Lapus Beach & Amazing Rock Formations - Calatrava, Tablas Island, Romblon Tourist Spot
Lapus-Lapus Beach is a secluded white-sand beach with a jungle back-drop, hidden amongst the coves dotting the limestone cliffs of Calatrava.
The name Lapus-Lapus itself refers to the passages between the rock outcroppings dividing the beach. Half the excitement of this locale is the journey to get there – the beach is only accessible by bangka from the main town and you’ll pass both jungle covered mountains and remote fishing villages before you arrive.
A few locals have built homes in the cove, but unless it’s a holiday, you’ll likely have the beach to yourself. The beach itself is good for swimming, especially during high tide, and the open water beyond the cliffs has some OK snorkeling with a coral wall about 20 m out. If you’re snorkeling, be mindful of the current which can be surprisingly strong past the protection of the cliffs.
How To Get There:
The beach is only accessible by bangka, which can be hired in the main town of Calatrava near the same waiting shed along the baywalk that serves as the jeepney terminal. The cost to hire will be about 800 pesos round trip, but may vary depending on number of passengers and other destinations. It’s likely the bangka will move on to other fares, so be sure to arrange a pick-up time.
Jeepneys run between Odiongan and Calatrava roughly every hour between 5 AM and 3 PM and can be caught at the jeepney terminal in either town. The last trip typically departs each location at 3 PM but might leave early if the jeepney is full, so make sure you have your ride lined up ahead of time if you aren’t staying over night. Jeepneys and motorcycles also run to the neighboring municipality of San Augustin if you’re planning on going on to Romblon, Romblon.
