Caibarién is a municipality in the Villa Clara province of Cuba, is known as La Villa Blanca for its sands and beaches. They are famous for their Parrandas along with Remedios.The town was founded on October 26, 1832 from a map designed by Estratón Bauza.On January 1, 1879 Caibarién emerged as an independent municipality of Remedios and the first city council was established with Don Hipólito Escobar Martelo.The Parrandas carnivals take place twice a year in August–September and mid-December. They last usually for about two weeks at a time.

CAYO SANTA MARIA is a small key, 16 km (10 mi) long by 2 km (1.2 miles) wide, located in the Bahia de Buena Vista, off the northern coast of the main island of Cuba, in the province of Villa Clara. With its two neighbors, Cayo Las Brujas and Cayo Ensenachos, they together form a quiet resort destination with stunning beaches, called Los Cayos de Villa Clara. These cayos (keys) are connected to the main island of Cuba by a 48-km (30-mi) causeway (called Pedraplen in Spanish), from the coastal town of Caibarien.
These Cayos are part of a larger archipelago called Jardines del Rey (King's Garden), which is currently the most active area in Cuba for tourism development. Once completed, the archipelago should reach a capacity of about 32,000 rooms distributed in the following islands (from west to east): Cayo Las Brujas, Cayo Ensenachos, Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Paredon Grande and Cayo Cruz. This Cuban archipelago may then become the largest beach resort destination in Cuba with almost twice as many rooms as currently found in Varadero.
Cayo Santa Maria is part of the Villa Clara province but is located only about 30 km (18.6 mi) as-the-crow-flies west from Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco, two other popular beach destinations in the nearby province of Ciego de Avila. Learn more about the other islands of: Jardines del Rey.
We learned there’s also a project to build a water park (either near the dolphinarium or at the east end of Cayo Santa Maria), and a golf course in Dolores, a village located a few kilometers from the town of Caibarien (where starts the causeway to reach the cayos). In a short period of time Cayo Santa Maria became the second largest beach resort in Cuba, after Varadero, but despite this fast development, it remains a nice, safe and quiet little island.
Cayo Santa Maria BeachCayo Santa Maria's main attraction is without a doubt its 13 km (8 mi) of magnificent fine sand beaches, divided in three sections. The beaches and hotels are all located along the northern coast of the island, while the south coast is mainly dominated by forests, salt marshes and mangroves.

After a month studying at the famous film school in San Antonio de los Baños (#EICTV) - which if you like film, I recommend it, not only for the quality of teaching but also because it was a wonderful experience, it's a film boarding school in the heart of Cuba! - I had time to visit the country for a few more days before I had to return to Spain.

Across the affected islands, the devastation to roads, harbors and airports significantly impeded the transportation and distribution of relief supplies. Damage to Sint Maarten's airport and harbor left that part of Saint Martin unreachable, although the small airport on the French side could be reopened by September 7 for supply aid by helicopter and airplane.[146] The following day, the Dutch military was able to airlift dialysis patients off the island while also dropping leaflets to warn islanders about the rapidly approaching Hurricane Jose.[147]
In response to Hurricane Jose's approach, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda issued a mandatory evacuation on September 9 for any remaining residents on Barbuda. A Miami cargo plane landed on Antigua later that day, carrying over 60 tons (120,000 lbs) of relief supplies for the displaced storm victims—including bottled water, canned food and power generators.[148] RFA Mounts Bay stationed itself near Anguilla, providing support and relief work to the island with its helicopters and 40 marines and army engineers.[124]

The city is situated on the north coast of Cuba, bordering the Bay of Buena Vista (Bahia de Buena Vista) of the Atlantic Ocean. It lies at the eastern extremity of the Villa Clara Province, close to the border with Sancti Spíritus Province. The town is served by the Caibarien Airport (IATA: -, ICAO: MUCB).
The municipality is divided into the barrios of Primero, Segundo, Tercero, Cuarto and Quinto.[5]
Economy and tourism[edit]
It served as a shipping point for agricultural commodities, such as sugarcane, tobacco, and fruit. It also served as a sponge-fishing center. Its hotels are now destroyed by lack of care, and most concrete houses are crumbling on to its streets. The piers that once served as shipping points for agricultural commodities have fallen into the bay. The two sugar mills that used to send their sugar exports through the harbor are now closed and crumbling. The major sugar mill (Reforma) it is now a museum for tourists.

Pedraplén is considered the largest causeway in the world (48km) and provides direct access to kilometers of amazing, untouched beaches of golden sand and crystalline waters. In the vicinity of El Pedraplén you’ll find lush vegetation and amazing landscapes.To protect the area’s flora and fauna 45 pre assembled concrete bridges were set up. El Pedraplén of Caibarién to Cayo Santa María was awarded the 7th “Premio Internacional Puente de Alcántara” (International Puente de Alcántara Award).
