After surprising my Mum with her dream trip to Cuba we flew over to the capital Havana to spend a few days there before our tour in Western Cuba began.
All major sights in Old Havanna are in walking distance such as El Capitolio , the Museum of the Revolution, Plaza Vieja or the Great Theatre to name just a few. Take a day to roam the narrow streets of the old town and make sure to have a drink at the roof of the Hotel Ambos Mundos!

HAVANA TOURISM: the best things to do in Havana, Cuba.
To condense such a peculiar city like Havana, with its own rhythm, its own tastes, their own people and their particular lifestyle in only 10 places is difficult. In the list 'Top 10 Amazing Places of Havana' Cicerone Plus we leave aside the famous hotels and local prestige to focus on the most historic, both the 'Cold War' as the designated World Heritage Site.

10 .- Revolution Square, the cradle of the Cuban Revolution and the cult of figures that prompted José Martí, the precursor, Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos.
9. Plaza de San Francisco de Asis (Square of San Francisco de Asis), where we find the homonymous 16th century convent that incorporates many religious objects of historical character. Baroque jewel converted into a museum and choral music room.
8. Paseo del Prado, Paseo de Martí today was built in the late 18th century, where simply walk from one end to another to find many buildings and sculptural monuments of Old Havana.
7. Plaza Vieja (Old Square), harmonized by valuable colonial buildings from the 17th century to 19th with a great aesthetic unity. There also found the Palace of the Counts of Jaruco that has several galleries.

A key to understanding the political and ideological heritage of the Cuban wars museum. It houses historical and artistic works of the late 15th century to the present.
3. The Temple, a small temple in neoclassical style of the early 19th century, home to large canvases of the time that had a considerable influence on Cuban architecture and in neighboring countries. In the Plaza de Armas, where it is, there are many varied plastic, sculptural and ornamental works.
2. The 4 Fortresses of Havana:
Castle of San Carlos de la Cabaña, mid 18th century, was the largest in Cuba and throughout the Americas, built by Spain.
Morro Castle, the 16th century, the castle of the 3 Kings of Morro, seen at the entrance to the bay of the city, from its conception is a prominent symbol of Havana. The lighthouse dates from the 19th century.
Castle of Real Fuerza, also from the 16th century, which even boasts its impressive military architecture and is now a museum of colonial times.
Fortress of San Salvador de la Puntilla, late 16th century, winner of a National Archaeological Restoration Award.

10) Barrio de El Vedado
Al visitar El Vedado en Cuba veras cientos de casas que parecen mansiones, aunque no todas tan bien conservadas. En este lugar también podrás encontrar el Hotel Nacional de La Habana, un clásico de la ciudad. Igual de importante es la icónica Plaza de la Revolución y el Memorial a Jose Martí.
9) El Malecón de La Habana
Caminar por el malecón de La Habana es tratar de sentirse como un cubano por unos momentos.
8) Bodeguita del Medio / La Floridita
Estos dos restaurantes o bares son unos clásicos de la ciudad, en tu visita a La Habana tienes que ir por un mojito a la Bodeguita del Medio y por un daiquiri a La Floridita.
7) Cruza el Canal de La Habana
Del otro lado del canal podrás encontrar la Fortaleza de la Cabaña, el Castillo del Morro y el Cristo de La Habana. Desde este lado tendrás una vista panorámica de la ciudad.
6) Museo de la Revolución La Habana
Este museo cuenta la historia de la revolución cubana, es interesante visitarlo para conocer un poco de esta parte de la historia cubana. El edificio por si solo es una verdadera joya, tienes que conocerlo.
5) Piérdete en La Habana
La mejor forma de conocer La Habana es caminando por sus calles y platicando con su gente. No te pierdas de visitar el Callejón de Hamel.
4) La Habana Vieja
La Habana Vieja es el corazón de la ciudad, aquí encontraras la mayoría de las atracciones turísticas de La Habana: El Capitolio, Gran Teatro de La Habana, Parque Central, Paseo del Prado, Calle Obispo, Plaza San Francisco de Asís, Plaza Vieja, Plaza de la Catedral, la Plaza de Armas y mucho más.
3) Miradores de La Habana
Sube al Hotel Saratoga para disfrutar de una gran vista del Capitolio. Otra opción es el mirador en la terraza del Hotel Iberostar Parque Central, desde ahí podrás contemplar una panorámica de la ciudad.

Entra al Capitolio de La Habana y toma una visita guiada. Conocer el interior del capitolio es de verdad impresionante.

10 .- Plaza de la Revolución, la cuna de la Revolución Cubana y del culto a las figuras que la impulsaron: José Martí, el precursor, Che Guevara y Camilo Cienfuegos.
9.- Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, donde encontramos el convento homónimo del siglo XVIII que incorpora muchos objetos religiosos de carácter histórico. Joya de la arquitectura barroca, convertida (actualmente) en museo de arte religioso y en sala de música de cámara y coral.
8.- Paseo del Prado, hoy Paseo de Martí, iniciado a finales del siglo XVIII, donde basta con caminar de un extremo a otro para hallar numerosas construcciones y monumentos escultóricos de La Habana Vieja.
7.- Plaza Vieja, armonizada por valiosas construcciones coloniales del siglo XVII al XIX, con una gran unidad estética. Allí encontramos también el Palacio de los Condes de Jaruco que cuenta con amplias galerías.
6.- Catedral de La Habana, construida en el siglo XVIII en estilo barroco, la catedral de la Virgen María de la Concepción Inmaculada posee varias tumbas y objetos de personajes ilustres (tanto) de la ciudad y (como) de Cuba. Además en la plaza que la rodea encontramos algunas de las mansiones coloniales más destacadas.
5.- Museos de Bellas Artes, cruzando la avenida de las Misiones encontramos dos museos de Bellas Artes: uno dedicado al arte cubano y el otro al arte universal.
4.- Museo de la Revolución, concebido a principios del siglo 20 con cánones del eclecticismo, una cúpula en su cima como corona y exteriores memoriales. Un museo clave para comprender el patrimonio político e ideológico de las guerras cubanas. Alberga piezas históricas y artísticas de finales del siglo XV hasta la actualidad.
3.- El Templete, un pequeño templo en estilo neoclásico de principios del siglo XIX, hogar de grandes lienzos de esa época que tuvo una influencia considerable en la arquitectura cubana y en la de los países vecinos. En la plaza de las Armas, donde se encuentra, abundan obras plásticas, escultóricas y ornamentales variadas.
2.- Fortalezas de La Habana:
Castillo de la Real Fuerza, es la fortaleza en pie más antigua de Las Américas, data de mediados del siglo XVI. Hoy en día alberga un museo de maquetas navales e instrumentos de navegación, así como una impresionante maqueta de la misma fortaleza en forma de estrella de 4 puntas.
Castillo del Morro, de finales del siglo XVI. El Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro, que se aprecia en la entrada a la bahía de la ciudad, es desde su concepción un símbolo destacado de La Habana. El faro data del siglo XIX.
Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta, también de finales del siglo XVI, ganador de un Premio Nacional de Conservación y Restauración.
Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, de mediados del siglo XVIII, la mayor fortaleza de Cuba y de toda América construida por España.

Antes de desvelar el número uno, os mostramos un lugar, que aunque no tenga una carga histórica tan relevante como los ya mencionados, es sin duda placentero de visitar para mezclarse con los cubanos, respirar la brisa marina y disfrutar de espectaculares atardeceres. El Malecón de la Habana es el paseo marítimo más famoso del Caribe.
1.- Capitolio Nacional de Cuba, símbolo notable de la ciudad de La Habana y una de las grandes edificaciones de toda Cuba. Su cúpula es una de las “mayores” del mundo. De gran riqueza arquitectónica, con líneas puras y bellas proporciones, y ornamentado con gran suntuosidad. Declarado Monumento Nacional de Cuba.

Paradisus Rio de Oro Resort and Spa Cuba [JONANG FILMS] Episode (10)
In this season finale we take you around the hotel and grounds of the Paradisus Rio de Oro Resort and Spa, including our room which was a suite.
As you enter the complex you're greeted by a beautiful setting in the lobby that has been recreated to look like a native village. As you wander through you will the charm and comfort that awaits.
Tropical plants, fountains and more can be seen giving an air of total relaxation within the environment.
At the check in desk you can exchange your money, plus get lots of information about your stay at the hotel including room service and where to make bookings for example a day in the spa. For excursions you can see your rep who will be around from time to time.
Facilities include a tourist shop and a cigar shop where you can buy your favourite brand while at the home of cigar making. You'll also find an internet centre where cards can be purchased to give you access to your social media buddies, be aware though the service is not like it is in other parts of the world and can be tediously slow at times!
The Esmerelda beach at Paradisus is beautiful with it's white sands and crystal clear waters, snorkelling is the perfect activity with coral reefs just a few yards from the shoreline.
More people are getting married abroad today than ever before and the Paradisus offer a stunning location with their wedding gazebo right on the ocean front. The gazebo can also be hired for other special occasions such as birthday or anniversary romantic meals for two.
The hotel has an impressive main pool set in a fantastic location surrounded by flora and fauna, it includes a swim up bar, splash area and whirlpool. The area also has cabanas for those wishing to take a break from the intense sun.
For our stay we had one of only two suites on offer at the hotel, these are basically double size rooms with a connecting door. The bathroom has a clean modern look and the bedrooms are very comfortable with large beds and all the little extras you'd expect at a 5 star location.
At the top end of the complex you'll find the Botanic Garden, a visually pleasing area with Cuban outbuildings, statues and amazing tropical plants and fruits. A place to sit and reflect!
The country is amazing and we have had a wonderful trip, with so much to see and do, we hope we have whet your appetite to take flight and visit Cuba.
